A pair of good divisional battles tonight, as the Athletics face the Angels, and the Giants face the Dodgers.

    All-Time All-Star Teams

Yes, in the New Historical Baseball Abstract. If you look at the stats, there's a good argument for Vaughan. Career OPS+ numbers..... Vaughan 136 Ripkin 112 Yount 115 Banks 122 Larkin 116 Reese 99 Appling 112 I can't think of any others with an argument. Vaughan was a tremendous hitter. Now these rankings were done after the 1999 season, so A-Rod wouldn't have entered the picture at that point. Including players who played before free agency, that list would be insanely long.

    All-Time All-Star Teams

The All-Time All-Star Game For an upcoming column, I plan to compile All-Time All-Star teams for each league, and sim a game between them. I'm going to select the reserves and pitchers, but I am leaving the starters up to you guys. Vote on the eight starters for each league. Send your picks via PM, please do not post them. Voting will last for a week, and the teams will appear in my June 21st column. NL C: 1B: 2B: SS: 3B: LF: CF: RF: AL C: 1B: 2B: SS: 3B: LF: CF: RF:

    New McDonald's commercial

There's a few misconceptions. For one thing, the ad campaign is run by the McDonalds in Australia, not in the United States. They are managed differently. The poster compares Spurlock's comments about McDonalds in America, and offers a rebuttal based on the McDonalds in Australia. For example, the poster claims that McDonalds' salads have less than 7g of fat. This is true in Australia. But in America, this is certainly not true. Many salads have three times as much fat. The Fiesta Salad has 250 calories from fat. That's only 50 less than the Big Mac. The poster is blatently misleading, at best.

I know I might have favoritism here, but no way does Brooks beat Mike Schmidt. Schmidt had ten gold gloves AND 500+ home runs. Brooks Robinson had a 104 career OPS+, about league average. You have to hit significantly better than league average to be the best of all time.

If the camera wasn't matched up straight on, home plate would appear at an angle.

The hell? K-Zone is clearly drawn a few inches to the left of the edge of home plate. Take a ruler to your screen and hold it straight. And considering you only need to nick the strike zone, there's a good possibility that pitch was a STRIKE. If it missed, it missed by mere inches.

Calling balls and strikes is the umpire's most difficult job. Fans don't really have an idea of how hard it actually is. Yes, that pitch was a ball, but if you went through every pitch, you'd find a bunch of pitches on both sides. Its usually not egregious.

Yeah, if you can't score two runs in an inning off the best f'n reliever in the National League, what good are you?

    Super Mario Brothers 1

I've been playing Super Mario All Stars for the SNES (emulator) recently. I think when you compare Super Mario 2 with the Lost Levels version, Super Mario 2 has it beat. The Lost Levels really are just an extension of the original Super Mario Brothers.

    Bonds just won't shut up

Not cherry-picked from the interview, but picked out in general. Many of us say stupid things, but none of us have them broadcast over the waves. When Bonds says ANYTHING remotely offensive, its splashed all over page one. All I've read from that interview is resentment, and considering the hatred he gets from some groups, it might be justified. I don't know what Bonds has experienced. But some people have based their judgement on Bonds entirely based on negative columns from sportswriters. I don't think that's an accurate picture of the man. The fact is, we don't know what athletes are really like.

Lets see. Clemens, Big Unit, Glavine, C. Zambrano, Schmidt, Sheets, and Paul Wilson are easy. That leaves 3-4 more slots. At least one of those will go to Livan Hernandez so the Expos are representated (and he deserves it anyway). So that's a tough fight for Milton to make the squad.

A Ledee/Michaels platoon would work as well. The point is, there's no reason to go outside the organization. And let's not forget, Byrd is outplaying Glanville at least.

    This Week in Baseball

Brad Halsey began the year completely off the radar. He was an eighth round pick in the 2002 draft. Coming into this season, he posted a 3.66 ERA in 231 minor league innings. Still, he tore up AAA this season, going 6-2 with a 2.52 ERA, and a 51/19 K:BB ratio in 82 innings. Decent K rate, great BB rate. All in all, not bad for a fill-in.

Better yet, play both Polanco AND Utley, and bench either Rollins or Bell. And as Pinjockey said, heaven forbid they cut Doug Glanville. You can't find a .500 OPS just anywhere. Does Utley have the arm to play 3rd? I don't see any reason to sit down or trade Bell at this point (at least not without getting a 3rd baseman in return). CF is the position they need to address. Byrd's been atrocious all season. Went to my first game at Citizen's Bank last night. Beautiful stadium. I had the misfortune of watching Utley play third at Scranton. He fielded a ball in the first inning, and promptly launched it into the stands past third. Besides, Polanco can play all three infield positions, so he'd be the one to move at any point. Byrd will be fine. I maintain it is just an extended slump, and he'll be fine. Those fans calling for Carlos Beltran are definately overreacting.

ESPN's Top 100 Moments of past 25 years

Mitch Williams was the last of the reviled chokers. After that incident, public sentiment grew to feel pity, as they did for Byung Hyun Kim.
