DeJesus isn't Beltran, but he's not joke. He holds a career .400 OBP. He's probably up a little early. Give him time. Statistically, your chances of garnering star players are better in the draft. Most big name stars traded in the midseason garner middling prospects these days. Its just not a fair return on the investment.
-
I'd just let him go to free agency, and take the draft picks. Midseason trades rarely net quality players these days. With the draft picks, you get two chances to draft a star in next season's amateur draft. The Royals have David DeJesus waiting in the wings, so Beltran's departure, while bad, won't kill the Royals.

Give me a couple days to think it over and I guarentee you I'll come up with a player. Curt Schilling(Francona) Also, if Manny tried to slide he probably woulda been out. Finally, Bellhorn, while I think he is nothing special, hit 27 HR's 2 years ago while playing for the Rockies. Yes Colorado is a HR enhancer, but 27 is still pretty decent. Therefore Bellhoen hitting a HR isnt THAT shocking. Francosa manages the Red Sox because of Schilling, not the other way around. And Bellhorn was on the CUBS when he hit 27 home runs.

When has a player ever chosen a team because of a manager? Beltran will select the best offer, just like any other free agent.

We know how good Kobe is. It doesn't matter. Kobe Bryant is a spoiled little punk bitch. And last I checked, Iverson never raped anyone.
-
Philly would riot if we traded Iverson for Bryant.
-
You can make an argument for AI. Unlike Erving, Iverson has played his entire career in Philly.

No. I would not tolerate such a treatment of MLB, and similarly no other sport, even foreign, should suffer such an indignity. The Euro 2004 is a legitimate, big time tournament, and deserves its own thread.

The point seems to be that since baseball has sold out before, what difference does this make? I think it has to stop somewhere. The fans have obviously decided where the line stands, and they've made a statement. Ads are inevitable, but they should not sit on the field of play. I'd rather not see the ads even on the on-deck circle.

Zito and Mulder are already under contract through 2006, for $7 Mil and $7.25 Mil respectively. Hudson is signed through 2005, at which point he becomes a free agent. I don't see the big issue with the starter. I don't think ANY team could keep three starters of this caliber. After all, even the Yankees couldn't hold on to Pettitte. They'll sign Hudson, let Zito go, and wait and see with Mulder. They'll at least keep one, in my view. Meanwhile, they've got Harden for the league minimum until 2006, when he hits arbitration. Joe Blanton is a stud prospect. This team is nowhere near panic mode yet, and even if they lose their big three, its not until 2006 anyway.

Its the same as giving tax breaks or subsudies (sp?) to businesses for moving into an area. Proponents say it improves the surrounding area, provides jobs, and so on. Many say those improvements are marginal at best. Personally, I agree. Owners should fund their own parks, or stay in their current stadium. The idea that the St. Louis Cardinals need a new stadium is a joke.

Here's a thought. With a 6-0 record, its likely Roger Clemens will start for the NL team, especially since its in Houston. The fans will no doubt vote Mike Piazza in at catcher. Meaning, we'll witness a Clemens/Piazza battery.
-
I wouldn't say the Yankees humiliated themselves. Rich Harden is one hell of a pitcher.
-
I think Sheffield's a HOF candidate. Career .401 OBP. Two or three more years, and I would vote him in.
-
Abreu shouldn't demand a trade because one idiot sportswriter can't grasp the concept of winning baseball.
-
Sheff could go too, as well as Kenny Lofton. Giambi still has a lot of baseball infront of him and very well play himself in as well. Also... Don Mattingly is their hitting coach... I loves me some Don Mattingly. How sad when Bernie Williams is overlooked.

Thank fucking god.

Why are people like this allowed airtime?

http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,3...2122121,00.html Nice to see teams try some innovation. I hope it works, although I wouldn't pin my hopes on Shawn Estes.

The only team to sweep the playoffs since the advent of divisional play is the 1976 Cincinnati Reds.
-
He went 3-12 with a 6.13 ERA last season and the Rays soured on him.
-
Wow. It honestly never occured to me that Maris still holds the AL record.
-
Oh. Nothing to see here. Small ball works. Buster Olney said so. There's a stat and everything. And if he smacked the outfield wall with the pitch, the A's would've won. Moneyball.

Basically a dominican court order froze Mondesi's salary due to a court case. The Pirates had to put Mondesi's salary in escrow. That got cleared up, and the Bucs can pay Mondesi.
