He is actually. They cleared up the issue.

*Remembers '96 NLCS and chuckles* In fairness, he's not that bad.

The Yankees sent Jose Contreras down to Single A. I assume its for extended Spring Training. No word on who will assume the fifth starter's role in his absence. Read somewhere that the Blue Jays traded Bruce Chen to the Orioles. At the age of 27, Chen has now pitched in nine organizations.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writ...r.qa/index.html No comments, just an interesting article I wanted to share.

Wagner collects the save. Wagner's K/BB ratio is now 20:0.

Wagner-time in Philly!

I upped the difficulty level to All-Star. Lost my first three, but two were competitive. Billy Wagner just isn't the same pitcher in the game.

All Star Selections Under My System...... AL Jorge Posada Jason Giambi Alfonso Soriano Nomar Garciaparra Eric Chavez Manny Ramirez Gary Sheffield Carlos Beltran NL Mike Piazza Albert Pujols Marcus Giles Edgar Renteria Scott Rolen Bobby Abreu Barry Bonds Andruw Jones

Byrd's first HR of the year ties the game in the first.

The Giants need to move Bonds up in the order. Hit him second or third, and put more hitters behind him.

Joe Morgan's Latest Column. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor..._joe&id=1795582 Morgan claims RBI and runs scored are a truer indicator of a player's worth. While runs scored are the most important offensive stat, they hold little value as an individual statistic. Both stats are extremely team dependant, and there is nothing in them that you can not discern from OBP or Slugging percentage. What stood out for me, however, is this gem..... The Marlins finished 15th in OBP in MLB. They also finished 17th in runs scored.

Yes. Check out this article. The new RBI total was adopted in the 7th Edition of Total Baseball.

Major arm surgery. He's not expected back this season.
-
Not necessarily. Pitchers used to do it all the time, with little ill effects. Today's modern athlete is more conditioned, but specialization of the game, along with gun-shyness on the part of management, has brought us the 5-man rotation. The Rockies will limit guys to 85-90 pitches an outing, and I think they will do fine.
-
I wouldn't go so far as that, but it is discomforting to see. MLB will do just about anything for a buck these days (witness the current television contract).

Couldn't watch the game tonight, but Burrell gets a free pass for the game tying home run on Sunday. As an aside, how idiotic was the intentional walk to Thome? Move the winning run into scoring position, for Pat Burrell. Its not like he's David Bell.
-
I know I'm going to get accused of being a homer, but I think Thome tops the list right now. He leads in OPS and slugging. If its for a starter, its up to the fans. I doubt players study even the basic statistics, so they'd take Lowell or Rolen. So would I actually.
-
I would assume they might replace one of the other four. The four-man rotation is more to keep a fifth starter out than give more time to the other four.

Sometimes people forget that the early 1930s were a more prolifient run scoring era than today. The Cubs scored 998 runs, and didn't even lead the league. And its 191 RBI. As for Marshall, the amazing thing is he pitched over 200 innings.
-
A similar quote was mad about Ty Cobb. "How would Ty Cobb hit today?" "Oh, he'd hit about .260." ".260?" "Well, you have to remember the man is 90 years old."
-
Its just an an idiotic idea. There already is a penalty for walking Bonds. The opposing team has a runner on base, which leads to scoring opportunities. The intentional walk is usually bad strategy anyway.
-
I put A-Rod over Delgado because of his defense, but "Delgado was better" is the one legitimate argument against A-Rod, and no one uses it. Congrats.
-
I don't see how. At least we've won the division.

Pedro Martinez, 1997 & 2000. Goddamnit, that was supposed to be a 1.00 ERA. I want to see if someone can be a little better than Bob Gibson. Dutch Leonard, 1914.

When you take Coors Field and Dodger Stadium into account, Beltre beats out Castilla.
