Not quite. They added numbers in the '20s.

Well, in a sustained noise that the media couldn't stop blathering.

That is why the baseball world hates Jeffrey Loria. How the hell can you own a team and not provide television coverage? But Loria did it, and somehow Montreal is no longer a capable city for baseball. I maintain that if baseball had owners that cared, Montreal would be every bit as suitable a host to major league baseball as Vegas, Washington, or San Juan. In 2002, Florida outdrew Montreal by just over 1,000 over the course of the entire season, and no one suggested Miami couldn't host baseball.

He's 21 years old. He just finished up a season in high A St. Lucie, hitting 270/369/459. Lots of doubles, which usually become home runs. Stole 19 bases last season, and draws walks. He's also a good defender. We might see Wright after the All-star break, depending on how well he does in the minors, and how poorly Ty Wigginton does in the majors.

Good news: He's an absolutely terrific third base prospect. John Sickels rates him an A-, and lists him as the 9th best position prospect in baseball. Baseball Prospectus is even more generous, rating him as the 5th best prospect in baseball, and optimistic that he'll contend for the 2005 Rookie of the Year award. A true stud. Bad news: He's in the METS' organization.

1. I hold no hatred towards the Yankees or their players. The team is truly one of the classiest bunches around. My only problem comes with fanatical fans who are impossible to deal with when their team wins, and that's certainly not exclusive to Yankees fans. 2. I'm in the minority that baseball players SHOULD be paid that much. My only concern would be the payroll imbalance, but I believe that problem will correct themselves. No good capitalist business spends money that inefficiently and stays on top. 3. I do have a legitimate reason for hating on Yankees fans. I live in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. In an area which should be filled with Phillies fans, we're infested with Yankees fans, thanks to being a tourist trap. 4. As far as payroll goes, take a wild guess as to which team had the highest payroll in 1991. That goes for everyone.

Tomorrow (Sunday) Morning at 7am Eastern, Veterans Stadium will be imploded. One of the Philly news organizations will doubtless air it live, and I can't wait for the fun.

They actually put team chemestry in the game?

http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/hoops/hoopru...oprules-20.html So basically, I got in because I had a better 21st week.

Despite losing my two finalists, I'm somehow in first place. Chalk that up to calling it for Xavier, I guess.

I've pulled it out. Last seed in the Consolation playoffs!

Overtime! Hope lives.

From the Cosmic Payback Department, Vince Carter drops 42 points. Our score is even at 4-4. Flik is waiting on Stephenson's stats, and I've got Malone, Redd, George, and Brent Barry coming up. I need a big second half from Redd.

I find this amusing. One guy screams "fuck you" when the Vet falls. Every time they show the replay with that guy in earshot, its still there.

Its all over. Fun times for all. Greg Luzinski and the Phillie Phanatic did the honors, and the stadium refused to go down. Actually, it took the planned 62 seconds, and its all a pile of rubble. It'll take them about six months to completely clear the rubble. EDIT: I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Philly spectators dropping the F-bomb in the process.

Well, Spring Training kicked off today, as the St. Louis Cardinals battled the college team of Florida Atlantic, winning 10-1. Looking over the boxscore, I did a double take upon seeing Pagnozzi, catcher, but its not Tom. The Cardinals didn't throw any name pitchers out on the mound. When viewing spring training games, remember that they are just exhibitions. Pitchers in particular can be quite erratic. Don't panic. Spring training performances usually don't carry over into the regular season. The best part of viewing spring training games is catching a glimpse at some upcoming prospects your team may have. No serious analysis needed, just sit back and enjoy the action. Tomorrow, 1pm, ESPN: Mets v Dodgers

Albert Belle's still a free agent.......

Nah. Why should a 12th place team have a championship with a few hot weeks. I'd like to see all 16 teams see some kind of playoff run. Maybe do an 8/8 split.
-
Amazingly, if the season were to end right now, I'd sneak into the Consolation playoffs.

Bah. I'd say a news item like this warrants its own thread. Too bad we had to franchise Manning, the Sapp-Dungy relationship could have helped bring him here had we had more money. Agreed. OaO threads that cover MONTHS of events are really freakin' stupid.

Josh Hamilton out for the year....... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1763326

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1764019 Hopefully Jason Hart can recover from this. The report seems optimistic.

Plucked Alex Sanchez off waivers, so I'm all set for steals.

Guillermo Quiroz is worth keeping an eye on as well.

The hell? The Blue Jays are MUCH better than the Devil Rays, or Orioles for that matter. If they played in the Central they'd be easy favorites. As it stands now the Jays have an outside chance of sneaking into the Wild Card.
