Pick #2, Pocono Poison select Johnny Damon. I can't believe he slipped this far.

As of, oh right now. So keep the damn stuff legit posts. If I have to go searching through a shitload of posts to find those picks, I will place crappy players on your team and let you guys fight over the left overs via free agency. Just a note that the above post really told us nothing we didn't know before. So I condemn thee, Flik, to a team with Royce Clayton and Juan Encarnacion.

Hey, Carter produced and I flipped him for Antawn Jamison moments BEFORE his injury. I swear I had no knowledge of the injury when I traded him. None at all.

Doesn't effect my strategy for the most part, except that steals lose a ton of value. A good hitter is a good hitter. For the draft, I'm writing up a checklist on excel for myself which should assist nicely.

I don't think he got exposed in the postseason. He just slumped. Still, I agree. Reyes could end up VERY good, and he's cheap as well. He won't hit arbitration until the 2007 season.

One more note about the stats. Consider eliminating one pitcher's category, in order to make hitting/pitching equal. Personally, I'd take out losses. If a pitcher sucks, its reflected in five other categories anyway.

I too am maxed out. I word of constructive criticism. Those stat categories put too much emphasis on pitching. You generally should have an even number of hitting/pitching categories.

Actually, that's exactly how its set up. Just a reminder that I'm also running a pair of fantasy leagues, and there are a handful of openings remaining. Rotisserie style, fair, competitive play. Fabrice Tiozzo was the WBC LH champion. Jones won the interim belt by beating Mike McCallum the day before.

Boxing promoting is run too much like wrestling promoting these days. I start paying attention when they get in the ring.

Because Julio Gonzalez is not the linear champion. Prior to Jones, the last undisputed champion was Michael Spinks. He relinquished the crown when he won the heavyweight title. So the three titles bounced around. Virgil Hill beat Henry Maske to unify TWO of the titles in 1996. Prior to that, Maske was only IBF champion, NOT the linear champion by any means of the imagination. Then Michalczewski beat Hill for the two titles. Ring Magazine recognizes Jones because he unified all three belts, and more importantly, he clearly established himself as the premier light heavyweight in the world. On top of that, Jones beat Julio Gonzalez a couple years ago. And here's the kicker. Even if you follow your logic, Julio Gonzalez LOST last month to #2, Zsolt Erdei, via unanimous decision.

I don't see the point. Draft plans can go right out the window once you see what everyone else is drafting. For example, when someone first nabs a closer, everyone else tends to dive in right after.

I don't think it'll be a big problem. After you get past the first few guys, there's not much separating the 6th best 2B from the 20th. Besides, I've got a few rookies I'm looking at. I'll play it by ear. Having a SS/3B as my first pick helps of course.

More likely scenario. Nuxhall impresses Reds' brass with his ability to locate the plate. He is instantly linked to a two year contract. Nuxhall goes 3-34 the next two years, earning him ace status on the club before retiring. Nuxhall then signs with the Houston Astros.

My drafting strategy is to take the best players available. It just might work.

Bravo. The reason hits AND singles is unnecessary is that a batter would get credit in two catagories for a base hit, as he would a double or triple. Obviously, those should be worth more. Ideally, I'd use total bases instead of doubles and triples, but what we've got now is fine. And right now, I'm likely drafting Alex Rodriguez first. Shortly into the season he'll be eligible at shortstop AND third base. That's not common to find, especially in one of the best hitters available.

I have to quibble with some of the stats we're using before the draft. 12 categories seems excessive for hitters, as does 11 for pitchers. A lot of these stats duplicate themselves. Counting both singles AND hits is unnecessary. As is hits AND batting average, and earned runs AND earned run average. Also, hitter's strikeouts are counted in batting average anyway. I know you like to over-load these things, but seriously, less is more sometimes.

Because Javy's year has "fluke" written all over it. These rankings are not based on last season alone. They take several seasons into account. If and when I'm drafting, I take Piazza over Lopez in a heartbeat. I computed three year averages of those five players, based on the five stats Tom and I use. Lopez comes fourth, ahead of Lieberthal. Being that I'm first, I should keep my mouth shut, but aren't people who are lazy MORE likely to sit at the computer all day? If we had done this on a Thursday night into Friday, I'd be screwed.
