    Yet Another Fantasy League Thread

I changed roster positions of pitchers. Instead of 2 RP, it'll be 1 RP and 1 P. Obviously there's only 14 closers available, but I realized the old system would give an advantage to starters who used to be relievers.

Either Pujols or A-Rod. A-Rod will be eligible in two positions, and post MVP numbers. I'm wary on pitchers. Its easy to lose a fantasy league due to injury.

Question for anybody knowledgeable bout baseball

If you simply go by the games played, it will be every bit as accurate as if you figure out the at bats, because none of the numbers are really changing. Lets use Ruth's '27 season as an example. In my earlier example, simply using games, I estimated he'd hit 63.117 HRs. Now lets go for at bats. Ruth home runs at a rate of 0.111. Now if we divide 162/154, and multiply that by Ruth's at bats, we estimate he'd collect 568 at bats. If he hits HRs in 11% of them, he'd hit.....63.117 HRs. Don't drag more math in than you have to.

    If the voting was today...

So are you saying you'd rather give tax breaks to people that don't pay taxes? Or that you think the rich should pay taxes just because "they can afford it," or some bullshit reason like that? As a liberal, I believe in equal opportunity. Its hard to accomplish that when some citizens have a head start over others. I'm not proposing they forfeit all their money. I'm just saying a well-off society should give its less advantaged citizens an opportunity to succeed.

I don't hate them. I just don't think giving them tax breaks is the ideal public policy.

    If the voting was today...

So, your vote is for sale. Gotcha. -=Mike Damn right my vote is for sale. I vote for the candidate who best serves my interests. Currently, my interests include not paying out the ass to commute to work and college. As well, I'm sick of seeing my girlfriend work 40 hours a week just to afford school while tax dollars are poured down the throats of the rich.

Question for anybody knowledgeable bout baseball

Easiest way to go about this is simply to divide 162 games by the number of games played in that season, in this case 154. So 162/154 = 1.0519. Then take Ruth's numbers and multiply them by that number. Ruth's 60 HRs * 1.0519 = 63.117. So he would have hit about 63 home runs in a 162 game schedule.

    If the voting was today...

I think the bitter pill of the 2000 election was that it was decided by the supreme court, which consists of a slim majority of conservatives. Elections are considered a state function, and the US Supreme Court really had no jurisdiction over it. But they took the case anyway. Everything in that election controversy ran along party lines, and if the parties were reversed, they would've done things the same way. So I don't stew over that election. Its old news anyway, and its better to prepare for the next one. As for the next election, I'm voting for whoever's got the best chance to unseat Bush. The Iraqi conflict still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and gasoline prices are at a record high. That, and a liberal administration is more likely to raise my college grants.

Nader to Jump in Presidential Race

I think most school mock elections tend to vote for the third party. Our school had elections in '92 and '96 that went for Perot.

In defense of Rivera, he's just saying what he wants to do, not what he will do.

Also, the San Francisco Chronicle reports the A's are working on signing Eric Chavez to a long term contract. With the Yankees acquiring A-Rod, there's no chance Chavez ends up there next season. Of course, Boston is always a possibility.

Same here. Rivera would be 35 next season, however, so maybe they're being cautious about signing yet another player into his mid-30s. The market seems slim next year. Trevor Hoffman and Troy Percival could be free agents, but neither are younger than Rivera, and Percival has that hip problem. Eric Gagne is at least two years away from free agency. Maybe the Yankees are waiting for next offseason, and looking at the market. If they have the offer then, Rivera will sign. EDIT: Rivera's stats don't give me any sign that he won't continue to pitch well for a few more seasons at the very least.

Careful, that stat is misleading. Why did the Tigers turn so many double plays? Because they allowed so many runners to reach base. There's little correlation between W/L and double plays, or even defense and double plays.

AL/NL TSM Yahoo (5x5 Roto) league

This is a ways off yet, but what do people think about a fantasy "champion of champions" playoff game? Basically, the winners of the four leagues of this board would draft from players on the eight playoff teams. Just like a regular season game, you'd try and accumulate the best stats. Of course, the catch is you could lose players from your team as they are eliminated from the playoffs. What do you think?

The Marlins beat the Expos in attendance this year, and fairly for once. I'd have to think a team coming off a world series title would beat a team which just lost its franchise player.

Considering there's already 14 teams in the league, that amounts to 280 players drafted, out of 400 National League rosters spots. Obviously, he'll get drafted. Where, is the question. He's ranked 100 overall, so if anyone forgets to set their auto-draft, he'll go about the 3rd round.

LightningFlik, make sure you change the live draft option in the settings soon. Otherwise it'll run the draft automatically on the 26th.

City of San Francisco sues State of California

Looking objectively, its pretty straight-forward. 39 states have passed "defense of marriage" laws, but these laws may be unconstitutional, thanks to the 14th Amendment. So inevitably, someone's going to challenge the laws, based on the constitution. Many would liken the SF Mayor's actions to civil disobidience. In any case, this will go through the court system, which was inevitable. I think the gay marriage proponents have the upper hand here. That the religious right for the last year, and now Bush and the Republicans are pushing for a constitutional amendment tells me that the conservatives feel they are on shaky ground.

I had tickets to two games for Camden Yards when I vacationed in Baltimore. Day before I got there, a chemical train crashed, and wiped out games for four days, including all games the whole time I was there. I still haven't seen a game there.

    MLB 2004 Predictions

Al, do you think there's any chance for Weaver to turn himself around now that he'll be out of the NY spotlight AND pitching at Dodger Stadium? Not that I'd expect him to fully replace Kevin Brown, but it seems possible to me. I know that Anglesault would explode with rage if he has a good year. Personally I think that if he gets run support he may be a 14 game winner. Besides San Diego as far as whole team offense goes the NL West is pretty sucky. Bonds and nobody else on San Fran. Arizona has some offense but these days its homer or nothing for Sexon and Gonzo while Finley and Hillenbrand seem to be singles/doubles hitters. Not to mention he'll get to face Milwaukee, Pitts(sorry KKK), Cinci, and Montreal Run support and the Dodgers don't mix.
