    MLB 2004 Predictions

Al, do you think there's any chance for Weaver to turn himself around now that he'll be out of the NY spotlight AND pitching at Dodger Stadium? Not that I'd expect him to fully replace Kevin Brown, but it seems possible to me. I know that Anglesault would explode with rage if he has a good year. There's almost certainly a turn-around coming for Jeff Weaver. There's a few things working in his favor. When you look at his stats, you see that his big problem was hits. He allowed 211 hits in 159.3 innings. Growing evidence shows pitchers have less control over hits allowed than once thought. So Weaver goes from the Yankees, with Soriano/Jeter behind him, to the Dodgers with Alex Cora and Cesar Izturis behind him. Izturis and Cora are crap hitters, but they're among the best fielders in the league. Beyond that, Weaver doesn't walk too many batters. The only concern is the strikeouts. Finally, Weaver turns 27 this season. Typically, that is the age players see a jump in performance. I doubt he'll be as good a Brown, but I think he'll return to form.

    MLB 2004 Predictions

I picked them to finish behind the Giants. I do think they're better than the Dodgers last year. The Dodgers had four players in their lineup post sub-.300 OBPs, and they've done nothing to address their offensive woes. Worse, they traded their ace starter for Jeff Weaver. The Padres, meanwhile, made upgrades at catcher and acquired some quality veteran starters to accompany their young starters. They've also got Brian Giles, Phil Nevin, and Trevor Hoffman around for a full season.

    The Official MLB Offseason Topic

The deal is official. Pujols signs a seven year deal. As for salaries, its basically the free market. Because of the profit motive, teams set their ticket prices to attain the maximum revenue possible. I'd rather see the players, who entertain me, get the money rather than the owners.

The ideal situation would be to use the live draft tool on Yahoo. That allows no-shows to auto-draft, and those available to draft live.

    MLB 2004 Predictions

Consider these the "favorites" rather than my predictions. Yankees Twins Athletics *Red Sox Only difference between Yankees/Red Sox is that could flip-flop. Both should make the playoffs. The Twins are a tough call. I could pick the White Sox an hour from now. I still think the A's have the best rotation in the American League. Phillies Astros Giants *Cubs The Astros are the favorites in the Central, and I said that before they even signed Andy Pettitte. The Padres could surprise, but I've been burned on that prediction before. World Series - Red Sox over Astros AL MVP: Alex Rodriguez AL Cy Young: Javier Vazquez AL Rookie: Bobby Crosby AL Manager: Ken Macha NL MVP: Albert Pujols NL Cy Young: Roy Oswalt NL Rookie: Kaz Matsui NL Manager: Jimy Williams

Of course, Ty Cobb didn't even have a number. The Yankees introduced them in the 1920s.

Don't worry, you will have plenty of fair notice for the draft.

I went ahead and registered, seeing how I'm running so many teams, one more shouldn't hurt.

    The Boss Reponds to Henry.

The Angels were possibly the most jinxed of all. They were 3 outs away from the World Series in 1986, and up by three runs. With a three run series lead. And there's other events as well, but I don't have that article available at the moment. The White Sox aren't mentioned, but they haven't won a series since 1917. You'd think someone would write about the "Black Sox Curse" more often.

Still open spots for whoever wishes to join. I decided to increase the amount of bench slots available on the rosters.

First off, as far as the quote goes separate the owner from the general manager, who makes the personnel decisions. As for A-Rod, its not dumb not to acquire the guy when you're trading one of baseball's best hitters in exchange. Besides, plenty of people, myself included, said the trade was a bad idea. There were some black players, notably Moses Fleetwood Walker, in the majors. This was before the color barrier came up in the 1880s. Robinson was the first since that time.

Is there a schedule of ESPN classic performances?

Yahoo TV Listings I use those. You can click on ESPN Classic and browse their lineup, or you can even search for Yankee games or any other games.

That's deceiving. The 1930s was the game's greatest offensive era, and runs came easier in those days. In fact, the 1930s rivals the 90s in terms of offense.

Plenty of latin players played in the majors. Notably Dolf Luque, who won 194 names.

The first episode. And they're promoing the second episode for next week. You'd think they'd have more than two shows ready. By the way, when you're hiring an actor to portray a foley artist, you should pick one without a distinct voice. H. John Benjamin has done too many Squigglevision shows for me to miss than.

The 1936-39 Yankees are often overlooked, but they might be the best team in history. Not only did they win 4 straight titles, but they led the lead in runs scored AND least runs allowed four years in a row. No team has come close to matching that. They won 106 games in 1939 with Babe Dahlgren at first. Had Gehrig stayed healthy, they would've won 113 games.

There's six slots available yet in each league. As an aside, since Tom stated his policy on dead teams, I will NOT dissolve teams.
