They were interviewing Ruben Amaro from the Phils, so I'm glad they took someone else. Great move from the Dodgers. If DePodesta can bring a sabermetric attitude to the Dodgers, they'll turn their fortunes around.

    Max Kellerman leaves ESPN

It sucks as he was the one guy there knowledgable about boxing.

U.S again denied Olympic berth by Mexicans

I shudder what to think would happen if foreign policy were dictated in response to football/soccer fans. Especially the ones in Philly.

Keep in mind those ERA numbers include a few years in Colorado. Assuming he's healthy, he'll provide a nice boost to the Tigers.

Signing Clark was a bad idea from the start, and this will improve the team. Of course, they could have done the sensible thing and just kept Fernando Seguignol, but that would have made sense.

    Tucson HS basketball player paralyzed

To clarify, this is high school, not college. Given the circumstances, it sounds like a freak occurance, and no more likely than an auto accident or some disaster befalling a player. It doesn't mean it can not be prevented, however.

    Fantasy NBA League?

Eddy Curry drops 20 points for the fifth game in a row. What a great pickup for my team.

The problem is all discussion ends up in these threads. And the OaO threads were only meant to consolidate mass amounts of threads for one event. We shouldn't have that problem with baseball. Confine OaO threads to Opening Day, the All Star Game, etc.

That's Rube Foster from the negro leagues and not the Boston pitcher, correct? As an aside, I really hope we don't see a OaO Baseball season thread.

    Randy Ayers = FIRED~

I have no record of it, but I'm almost positive next year's pick is gone, and probably another one somewhere.

No real surprise there, as McGriff was reluctant to leave Tampa Bay in the first place. He won't get a starting nod, but he'll be a valuable bat off the bench.

    Randy Ayers = FIRED~

The Sixers troubles aren't unexpected. Many of us Sixers fans believe Larry Brown flew the coup before the collapse. He essentially burned the system (they haven't had a good pick in years) to build a contender, and now the team is in shambles.

    Fantasy NBA League?

I had originally drafted Clark, dropped him, and picked him up again to place him on the IR.

    Fantasy NBA League?

I'd trade Keon Clark, his compadre on injured reserve, for him.

    NBA Midseason Awards

I'm not sure about Michael Redd for most improved, because he's been good for a while now. Its just that he didn't get the playing time he deserved.

    NBA Midseason Awards

I can only speak for baseball, but yes, its only happened a few times. HOWEVER, only a few times has the deserving MVP actually come from a last place team. A-Rod is the exception to the rule, which is what makes it so difficult for him to get his just due. I could re-do that, but it wouldn't be tonight.

    NBA Midseason Awards

I hope that's not in reference to the baseball discussion. If so, I would point out that Baryy Bonds has six MVPs to his credit. And that arrogant "you are wrong" is highly offsetting. Still, I see A-Rod as more valuable to his team. Otherwise, you're giving out an award to a player because he had better teammates. That's just stupid. We'll just have to agree to disagree, because I've had this discussion a million times before, and it never gets anywhere.

    'Sheed gone

I believe they also get Terrell Brandon's contract of the books this year.

    NBA Midseason Awards

It most certainly matters. The object of the baseball season is to win as many games as possible. A-Rod dragged an otherwise terrible team to 71 wins. There's value in that. Besides, the MVP is just a fancy name for the best player. Some people have gotten WAY too literal over it.

    NBA Midseason Awards

Ok. I'll run a few numbers for you..... Texas. 71 wins. Attendance: 2,094,394 Detroit. 43 wins. Attendance: 1,368,245 There is a difference. A win is inherantly valuable at any level. They give hope and faith to your fanbase. The Rangers could reasonably believe they could win a game on any certain date. I don't think the Tigers had that luxury. Besides, it still doesn't address what other players specifically did better than A-Rod to help their team win. Did they do a voo-doo dance? Pay for a round of hookers to provide inspiration? Baseball is unique in that it has a wonderful realm of stats, in black and white. They don't lie. A-Rod outperformed every player in the American League. I think I responded to a similar argument before, but that's just plain silly. Was Jeff Weaver really more valuable than A-Rod?

    NBA Midseason Awards

Please explain the difference. Because I haven't seen an explanation that includes anything except player A had different teammates than player B. How are you more valuable without being a better player?
  22. EVIL~! alkeiper

    NBA Midseason Awards

But WHY should they give an award based on that? Its an award determined by who your teammates are, which is one of the factors a player DOESN'T control. Its nonsense.

    NBA Midseason Awards

That doesn't make any sense. They fucked up the MVP voting, so MVP voting should always be fucked up?

    NBA Midseason Awards

Rookie of the Year is the best rookie in the NBA. MVP is not the best player in the NBA but the player that if their team did not have, they would be absolute shit. Not this nonsense again. The MVP award is for the BEST player. How the hell it can stand for anything else I'll never understand.

    Annoying extra on Foley DVD...

Ventura's commentary is also edited out of Cactus/Vader, hence the blank areas of commentary.
