Tino Martinez 273/352/429 Travis Lee 275/348/459 I don't get why the Devil Rays have a hard on for Tino Martinez. Like Brad Ausmus and the Astros, teams need to look beyond high-profile players with little skills to offer.

Not to mention top 10 in MVP balloting.

Rickey Henderson cost $350,000 and gave them a .369 OBP. That's worth it, in my view.

Well, two years isn't so bad, and he was really good up til the signing. Its a wonder he turned bad so quickly, especially in 1987, a paradise year for hitting.
-
He does a radio show every afternoon at 1 (eastern) on ESPN Radio, with Rob Dibble.

I'm almost ashamed to have forgotten the twin signings of Mike Hampton and Denny Neagle. Oh yeah. I think Brad Ausmus qualifies as well.

Hold your neck, and yell "Ow, my neck"

I think an apt comparison for Nathan Jones would be Zeus. The thing is, even though the Hogan/Zeus matches sucked, they drew money.

That guy who does the monday recap of how bad his football gambling went this week. Its obvious the picks are made after the fact.
-
For one thing, the formula considers stats from the last two seasons, so take that into account.

The Tigers didn't trade him, he left via free agency. I wouldn't say the Tigers' signing was too bad. It was one year, $7.5 Million. That won't kill a club.
-
The Mets signings have more to do with the Mets signing players after their primes. Most of the free agent busts have been well past 30. Chan Ho Park is an easy pick. A $65 Million contract for two lackluster years. Another pick: Albert Belle. A five year deal and he didn't play the last three.

Ken Brett passed away at 55. While best known as George Brett's brother, Ken was a good player in his own right. As a pitcher, Brett sported a career .406 slugging percentage.

His defense is excellent, but you can find a defense first catcher anywhere, and it defys logic that you sign a catcher like this before I-Rod and Javy Lopez sign.
-
Bored, just try to remind them that Ramon Hernandez is a catcher who had his first good season, and not the second coming of Jesus. Adam Melhuse is a more than capable catcher, and finally, the A's REALLY needed an outfield. Above all, remind them that with Hudson, Zito and Mulder, they're still the favorites in the AL West. And if all else fails, sometimes you just have to beat them senseless.

I wouldn't go that far. He's 34, and a 4.09 ERA isn't anything to write home about. Astros sign Brad Ausmus for another two years, thus handicapping their lineup yet again. He's 34, and coming off a season where he hit .229. Why the heck do the Astros keep bringing him back?

Finally after being the best player in the American League for at least the fourth year, Rodriguez gets the award that he deserves.
-
As much as sportswriters will tell you the effects, I don't think there's ever been a link between catchers amd pitchers' performance.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor..._rob&id=1664838 Rob Neyer summed it up nicely.

My apologies. Baseball-reference.com lists the players as starters by using their games played by position. Since Byrnes split between left/center, he appeared on the bench. Still, that's not a good mark for your best outfielder.
-
You know what. I think I need to post something here.....
-
Just look at the A's outfield. Chris F'n Singleton had the best OBP of the three, with .301. They desperately needed outfielders, and I think these moves improve the outfield more than they hurt the catching position.
-
Ignore that they added Bret Boone and Ichiro Suzuki. Really that's just a silly argument. They're absolutely stupid if they do it.
-
As for Hernandez, the A's are high on Jeremy Brown, an OBP machine in the minors.
