Twelve runs has been overcome twice in MLB history, once against one of the better teams in recent memory. If they can't hold that, it's time to pack it in.
-
This may well be the last taped WWF appearance of Andre the Giant's career.

The O's run for the wild card has hit a snag thanks to a three game losing streak. Baseball Prospectus now sees them as about a 3000:1 shot to make the playoffs. The Phils have shown a frustrating inability to win with Cole Hamels on the mound. They've now lost four of five, the only win coming when Hamels gave up nine runs! Olympic baseball kicked off today as well. Brandon Knight makes the start for Team USA, currently trailing 3-1 in the fourth inning against South Korea.

Day Two Dodgers 3 Bridegrooms 6 WP: Clemens, LP: Key, Sv: Lyle HR: Cano Clemens gave up a three-run double to Bill Dickey in the first but cruised afterward. Robinson Cano tied the game with a two run home run and Frankie Crosetti added two RBIs of his own. Gothams 3 Giants 4 11 Innings WP: Murphy, LP: May HR: Howard The Gothams scored three in the ninth to take the lead, but the Giants tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an Elston Howard home run. Roy White drove in the game winning RBI with a sac fly. Yankees 4 Highlanders 6 WP: Lopat, LP: Raschi HR: Dimaggio, Soriano Ed Lopat pitched a complete game while Alfonso Soriano picked up two RBIs. -
JP is awful. Though it's the right move, a note on Stewart. He appeared in Scranton on rehab for one game along with Vernon Wells. Both took time to sign autographs for fans and also contributed to the ALS auction.

Because baseball is more of a business than we'd like to believe. Players don't play for their hometown/favorite teams, they play for the teams that drafted and assigned their contracts.
-
I won't quibble about the language, but CE is a wasteland of idiots. How many times have two overall #1 draft picks pitched against one another? It is happening tonight...in Lehigh Valley. (Bryan Bullington vs. Kris Benson)
-
It's not who they have, it's the attitude that they have to be in the discussion for every single superstar on the market.
-
I guess it really is the Sox' birthright to have every good player. Mauer would cost any team at least two of their best prospects. With the Twins bound for a new park and Mauer a local product, I doubt he leaves.
-
Bored can jump in with the national games. Jon Morgan just reported that Braves' announcer Skip Caray passed away today.
-
Met fans, why is Dillon Gee absent from the prospect radar? He's 22, had a good season in St. Lucie and is AA bound. He's scheduled to start Tuesday when I make a visit.
-
Not really, since the draft is such a crapshoot. For a team that's been moribound since 1998, and was expected to be terrible this year, finishing .500 is something to hang your hat on. That's true. I just think at what kind of prospect Wieters is and he was #5. Not a certain thing, obviously. David Price is headed upwards to AAA Durham. So far he's 11-0 in the minors with a 1.87 ERA between A and AA.
-
Is finishing .500 the best thing for the Orioles? It looks nice, but all it may do is cost the Orioles a better player in the upcoming draft.

Surprised WWE shooting fireworks into the crowd at WM 24 hasn't been mentioned. -
Phil Hughes is nearly back as well.

Bridegrooms 4 Dodgers 11 WP: Pettitte, LP: Chandler Bill Dickey 3 run HR in 1st Chandler 1.7 IP, 5 H, 8 ER, 6 BBs, 1 K The Dodgers abused Spud Chandler for eight runs in the first two innings. Clark Griffith saved the 'grooms bullpen with 6 1/3 innings of work. Giants 2 Gothams 6 WP: Ford, LP: Gomez Posada scored on McDougald error Hank Bauer HR Bernie Williams RBI double Willie Randolph inside the park HR Williams and Randolph collected two RBIs apiece. Whitey Ford pitched eight innings, surrendering only two runs. Highlanders 7 Yankees 0 WP: Ruffing, LP: Hunter, Sv: Davis Rickey Henderson led off the game with a home run and the Highlanders cruised. Catfish Hunter walked six batters in the loss. The Yankees loaded the bases in the eighth, but Ron Davis came in and got Dave Winfield to fly out to snuff the rally. -
Good question. This is just speculation, but considering it's a gray area whether he actually needs the surgery yet, it must not be too excruciating an injury unless he pitches.
-
Tom Gordon is looking at Tommy John surgery, it would be his second. At 40, Gordon could opt for retirement (just speculation on my part). If this is it, Gordon has enjoyed a fine career. 138 wins, 158 saves, and three All-Star appearances.

Scranton/Syracuse tomorrow. The Chiefs have the Jays' top prospect Travis Snider, as well as Vernon Wells on a rehab assignment.
-
Phillies picked up Scott Eyre for a minor leaguer. They've been looking for a second lefty for years now.
-
Kris Benson has reeled off four straight quality starts in Lehigh Valley. He could be an option in the near future. JD Durbin meanwhile is now 0-7 with an 11.03 ERA in AAA. AA numbers are better, but there's no sugarcoating that.
-
I think Lopez is more likely to play second for the Cards. Remember, the Cards have a bunch of pitchers apparently playing over their heads, and they have a very good defensive shortstop. There could be a relation there.
-
Hardly, he's just 23. His send-down this year was the first of his career.
-
The Rays are 68-45. It will only take them three more wins to post their best record in franchise history.

Injuries no, which would concern me a bit in a longer league but not a short tournament. Fatigue yes, the program mandates that teams rest pitchers after long outings.
