Ok, now its the game of the year.
-
And now we go into double OT
-
New unis look pretty good. Certainly nothing offensively bad.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1655309 Similar to the Wells scenario I discussed earlier. Trevor Hoffman had his $10 Million option declined, and then resigned with the San Diego Padres for a low base salary. Great news for the Padres as they keep their closer at a substanstial discount.
-
The Yankees have declined Wells' $6 million option, and Wells becomes a free agent. Wells might be a good pickup, as he doesn't walk many batters. If you look at the statistics, Wells is almost exactly the same pitcher as Jamie Moyer, as odd as that sounds.

Vlad missed a month. Of course he's not going to beat Biggio in a counting stat like this.
-
Keep in mind that Win Shares is somewhat a measure of opportunity, so that could figure in. If Biggio saw more flyballs, then he'd get more credit for his defense than a fielder who plays for a team whose pitchers throw alot of groundballs. Another note, Hidalgo's fielding is rated higher than Biggio's, but Biggio played 100 more innings in the field. While we're on the awards topic, the HOF is giving fans the opportunity to pick broadcasters to appear on the ballot next year. Voters can cast their ballots here. http://www.baseballhalloffame.com/library/...oting/index.asp

And obviously he made alot of catches that did show up in the stat sheet. The Astros allowed the third fewest runs in the National League while playing in an extreme hitters park. That can't be all pitching.

Maddux isn't under contract at all. He's a free agent. I know... I'm just saying he might have a high asking price so unless he wisely lowers his asking price I wouldn't risk it but if you could get him to cut down from his 15 million to let's say HALF that...you'd be a fool NOT to take him. I'd be SHOCKED if he makes more than $8 million. Last year showed that teams are unwilling to spend massive amounts of money on unsure talent. Looking over baseball-reference.com however, Maddux doesn't look so bad. Of the top 10 most similar pitchers of his age, 8 pitched effectively for a few more seasons. Personally, I'd spend around $5 million for Maddux, but no more.

Let's nip this one in the bud. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1654701

He does actually. That Matheny held the starting catching job in St. Louis for four years now despite a .237 career batting average should tell you all you need to know about Matheny's defense.
-
Not your fault. How often do you have 3 players drop 30+ in two days?
-
I think putting James Toney in the top 10 is really pushing it. Lets see how he does against a top 10 heavyweight before we push him as one of boxing's elite.
-
I'll go ahead to post the Win Shares leaders..... C-Brian Schneider 1B- Derrek Lee 2B- Alex Cora SS-Cesar Izturis 3B- Adrian Beltre OF- Andruw Jones, Craig Biggio, Jose Cruz

Looks like I might just win the points battle in my matchup.

The full explanation runs around a hundred pages or so. The gist of it is this. Fielding statistics such as assists and double plays are essentially worthless because bad teams look just as good as good teams, because you always get 24-27 outs regardless of your performance. Win Shares starts with a team's runs allowed total, divides them between pitching and fielding, and breaks down the fielding between individual fielders. Its not a perfect system, but its better than most of what's out there.

Obviously quite a few of us. I don't run into football threads bashing the sport (i.e. the mock draft in April). So piss off.
-
I actually got his autograph at a AAA game two years ago.
-
Jorge DePaula could be a passable fifth starter. Adrian Hernandez looks like a decent middle reliever as well.
-
What's wrong with Jeff Weaver? Give me a few minutes and I'll scan the Columbus Clippers.
-
I would've been nice had they not built it in the middle of a parking lot, but at least access will be easy. I'm gonna try and get to a game next year. Can't wait to see it.
-
Yes Dames. The Yankees would figure that he'd make less on the open market, so they save money. The Angels pulled the same strategy last year when they resigned Brad Fullmer, declining his $4 million option, and then turning around and resigning him for $1 million.
-
You'd think Willie Randolph would work with Soriano, seeing how Randolph was the BB king of baseball for a while.
-
I wouldn't mind getting Wells either, as long as it was a one year deal. He'd fit right in Philadelphia.
