From the Manny Ramirez thread..... I stand by my thoughts. Vlad will go for the best offer. If some team offers him 7 years, he'd be silly to turn it down.

I think Maddux's agent just figured he'd make more in arbitration with the Braves than on the free market. Also consider that pitching is always in demand, and I think there's less available this year than last year. Last year we saw Clemens, Moyer, and Tom Glavine on the market as well.

So why couldn't Haasis have come by the record without shenanighans?

Hard to say. It depends who's hard up for pitching after the big 4 fall into place. The teams that cross my mind are the White Sox, Red Sox, Giants, and Padres. If there's no real demand for Maddux, I can easily see him slipping back to the Braves for another year.

I can't really argue with the Benitez image at this point. I will say that if some team takes him at a reduced price, he could pay off big time.

I still think an Andre the Giant dvd is a good idea.

If Boston shedded Ramirez, I guarantee you they'd lock sights on Gary Sheffield.

Forgive me for saying this, but Bill Walton is having a better season in the booth than Tom Tolbert.

Ramirez's stats this year were right in line with his career averages.

Their hands are tied. They can't trade Ramirez because no one wants the salary. And there's no way they can release him because they'd still have to pay him.

No one took the bait, and Ramirez remains with the Red Sox.

Maybe frustration. I saw him just about all season and the impression I got was that he was trying his best. I do think he'll turn it around.

Your tax dollars at work, huh? I live 6 HOURS from Pittsburgh and my tax dollars pay for that stadium.
