The one and only thread was created in order to avoid an event with high interest from completely dominating a folder. Its become greatly overused, IMO. The NBA season might generate a thread a day, on average. That's completely reasonable. The OaO thread should really be reserved for an event that might inspire 10-15 different topics at the same time.

1969 New York Mets. From second to last, to 100 wins and a World Series title.

Nick Johnson is a plate disipline freak of nature. How many players draw a .500+ OBP in the minors? Soriano will almost certainly never learn to take a pitch. Little known fact. The Yankees were actually the winningest team of the 80s. They just never won the division.

Depends who's available. Chris Chambliss is passed around as a good candidate with minor league managing success. Among familiar names, I wouldn't mind seeing Larry Dierker as manager. My first pick would be Davy Johnson, but I don't think he'd be interested.

Pinjockey pretty much made all the Phillie comments I had. I think he's been paying attention to my posts. Good job. Oh yeah, FIRE BOWA. He's never achieved anything as a manager, and he just creates tension on the team. Time to find a more laid back manager, and let the players handle themselves.

As the award first went to negro league players such as Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby, there's a fairly big precident for electing players in the situation of Ichiro and Matsui. Of course, this year you can make an argument for several players. Along with Matsui, Geret, and Baldelli, Angel Berroa deserves consideration.

Obviously its not, and wouldn't be for any team really. Great storyline for the World Series now, with the Yankees needing two in their home park. To respond to a few posts.... Think about that for a second. In which situation will a run cost you the most? Obviously when the game is tied. If you're ahead, you at least have room for error. I say use your best pitcher when the game is tied. Too many managers (looking straight at Tony LaRussa) are too piss scared to use their closer unless its a save situation, and it costs them the game. Pettitte's 3-3 in the World Series, and coming into this Series he sported a 5.08 World Series ERA. Sure, he holds the record for postseason wins, but that's entirely a product of the wild card. The record for WORLD SERIES wins is held by Whitey Ford, with 10. Oh yes, if you want to compare Pettitte and Beckett, I'd point out that Pettitte didn't get his first postseason victory until he was 24. Beckett's only 23.

I agree with not making this a one and only thread. Too much goes on during the course of a season to shoehorn it into one thread.

The best part about Weaver: The Yankees owe him 15.5 million over two years.
-
Probably. Same matchups as games 2 and 3.
-
Like I posted a few weeks ago, these awards were voted upon well before the season ended. Their distinction as awards is dubvious at best.

Fans who have psychic powers: 0% Honestly, no one knows who will win the Series at this point. Anything can happen in three games.

Montreal isn't the problem. ANY team run the way the Expos have been run the last five years would have piss poor fan support. Even the Yankees wouldn't draw if they didn't have a basic tv contract.
-
With the draft over, this can be unpinned.
-
Actually, Loria didn't own the team then. Wayne Huzeinga (sp?) did. Jeff Loria owned the Expos until last year, when he literally moved EVERYTHING from the Expos to the Marlins. The current state of the Expos should tell you everything you need to know about Jeff Loria.

Well, I have Raef LaFrentz, so its good for him. Of course, injuries may negate that.

I still think the Yankees are going to struggle after this year. Bernie Williams is losing defensive range in center. Clemens is gone after this year. They've got loads of contracts lined up for the next five seasons. And if they struggle, the revenue starts to decrease. And if they don't make enough money, with their payroll, they're fucked. So the Yankees are not a sure thing, especially to the point where the rest of the league isn't competitve. Hell, Boston lost by ONE RUN in game 7. The two years before that the Yankees didn't win, and the year before that they drew the weakest playoff team in the NL.

From another baseball discussion board..... Classic. I'd pay for a Splendid Splinter.
-
The plexiglass principle. The theory that a team whose win totals rapidly increase one year will come back to earth the next year. Case in point, the Anaheim Angels.
-
I'm going to go ahead and state that the Marlins will win 81 games next year, and miss the playoffs.
-
Ah 87 Topps. You could still buy a set for ten bucks. They over-produced the hell out of those cards.
-
Remember the good old days when baseball cards cost .50 a pack, and all they had were plain, regular baseball cards with your favorite players on them?
-
And no, I would no take that trade either.
-
Oh yeah, my draft results are accuarate as well.

2G, 2F, C, U, 3B and 3IR I'd prefer to see six starters. I drafted with six starters in consideration, and I'd like a little flexibility when I'm filling out my lineup. I would like to see one less injured reserve slot.
