Right now, interest in baseball is great enough that no team is remotely in danger of going out of business. If a team were drawing under 10,000 a game or so, there would be a problem. But in today's game, the sport is competitive enough to survive just fine. Name any team that has been terrible the last 5 years, and I can show you the clear path of ineptitude that led them there, not economics. The point is that no team has done it. The Yankees can fall. They have ALOT of money tied into some players. Jeter, Giambi both make $20 mil. They'll age, and they'll still be paid. There may come a point where the Yankees fail to succeed, and then the revenue dries up.

The worst part is we really have TWO arenas like that. Not only is there a Philly arena, but the Wilkes-Barre arena carries the same name. They just call it the ____ Arena at Casey Plaza.
-
I'd rate it a C. They have a few decent prospects in the system, but they've traded many of them. The Yankees seem very hesitant to give any of their minor league starters a rotation slot, relying instead of veterans.

Anyone else have the phenominon of changing arena names? Every time a bank merges, the arena changes names.

A few points to respond to carious points made on this thread, regarding the Yankees. 1. I hate the Yankees. 2. With that said, they compete in a free market system. There is NOTHING stopping the other 29 teams from doing the same thing the Yankees are doing? Want to spend alot of money? Try using your business sense to build more revenue streams, like the Yankees have done. They have an advantage because they play in New York? Well then what's wrong with the Mets? 3. The home grown player argument doesn't really work, as most teams would've lost those players to free agency by now. 4. EVERY dynasty has been built on a team's farm system. The Yankees stunk until they got a solid base of players from the minors. The Yankees will struggle to compete in the coming years as their players age. 5. The Yankees are good for baseball. They're like a monster heel in wrestling, who everyone wants to see defeated, and its all the more satisfying when they actually lose.

I updated my list as well.

Hmm. I'll be gone all day. I'm going to leave my pick in a PM to razateca, and I'm giving him the authority to announce my pick.

First off, the Red Sox and Cubs long chase gives the casual fan a plot line they can follow. Then, you have games that have been nothing short of spectacular to hold their interest.

Huh? The only thing I've seen of Zimmer is his apology at a press conference.
-
He's right. Today's game is decent so far, but the Marlins/Cubs series has given us much better dramatic baseball.

I had Kittles on my short list, but went with Miles instead. I needed a backup forward more than a backup guard.

Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutumbo are still available as well. As is Shawn Bradley.

My bad, the off day messed me up.

The worst was when FOX would actually play a "ringing" sound during every "AT&T Call To the Bullpen."

If the Sox don't hit Wells its going to be a bad night.

The Pocono Poison select Darius Miles, of the Cleveland Cavaliers. On a side note, the first team with four players drafted were the Cavs (Boozer, Davis, Ilgauskas, James). How weird is that?

Apologies for the triple or quadruple post.

Anyone catch Bloomberg's comments? http://www.nydailynews.com/front/breaking_...p-113010c.htmlp What a freaking joke.

According to espnnews, Wakefield is pitching game 4, followed by Lowe, miscellaneous, and Pedro for game 7.
-
Just a thought. If it goes 7, how great a story would it be to see Roger Clemens put his career on his line against the Boston Red Sox?
-
Garcia should get just a game or two, since from his vantage point maybe a fan had attacked a player. That'll all get sorted out in the coming days. 5 days for Pedro, which would equal 1 start. Zimmer has to get some punishment, because otherwise what's to stop a bench coach from charging the starting pitcher? (Finally, the Marlins find a use for Dale Torberg!)

We should have a 10th round, to draft some off the wall picks just for fun. Manute Bol, for example.
