Shit. Thank god Padilla survived, as it sounds like a terrible, terrible crash. Condolences to the driver, and I hope Padilla can recover.

I'd like to see them hire announcers like Vin Scully or Harry Kalas. True baseball announcers who cover 162 games a year.

1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers Van Horn may not be a star player, but he's better than people give him credit for. His teams made the playoffs the last two years, so its not like he's dragging them down.

The Sox regularly play Jackson when Lowe pitches, the theory being that with the ground balls that Lowe induces, fielding is more important in those games. It bugs me, because the game isn't over until its over (tm Yogi Berra). Sure, the odds are against it, but you never know.
-
Does it irk anyone else that Fox reds the credits before the game is over?
-
That sketch wasn't mocking Chicago fans, it was mocking fans in general.

If there IS a curse, why would it strike now, and not the World Series?
-
That reminds me of the Steve Forbes/Nightline SNL sketch, where an "anonymous" author writes a book on the 1996 Presidential race. "I have two words for you Teve Torbes.....tuck off!"

I'm really surprised that Gary Payton didn't go until the 48th pick. Especially since MrJ picked LeBron over him.
-
I think the silly thing is that we're waiting for alfdogg again.

For all the star power in baseball by 1945, the World Series may have FELT like it was cancelled. One sportswriter remarked on the upcoming Tigers/Cubs series, "I don't think either team can win."
-
The World Series was NOT cancelled during any of the war years. Cardianls won in 42 and 44, Yankees won in 43, and Tigers won in 45.
-
Its actually the 99th.
-
Yes, because he put it all together the year he turned 27, about the time most ballplayers start reaching their peak.

Since all the other A's/Sox threads are filled with petty bickering and name calling, I figured I'd open a new thread for my thoughts. -First off, I don't think the A's losing streak is anything more than bad luck. They keep losing in game 5, and its always close. They just don't get the breaks. -The A's will be back. Hudson, Mulder, Zito, and Harden are as good a front four as anyone else's in the game. -Some of the back and forth between teams gets ridiculous sometimes. Don't worry about the other team so much. Yeah, I'm refering to the A's more, but the Sox are guilty of their share. -How's this for an ALCS prediction? Sox in 7, beating Roger Clemens in his retirement game, in Yankee Stadium.
-
They're up by three runs. I'd worry about team defense more at this point.
-
Its not really the same thing when it comes to interference. That ball was clearly headed towards the seats, which makes it fair game for the fans. Maier reached over the playing field.
-
Why must all baseball discussion evolve into petty name calling and team bashing?
-
I agree Mik. Why the hell is Mark Prior still pitching?
-
Take Prior out and let him rest. If your bullpen can't hold a nine run lead, then its probably not your year anyway.
-
To add, it really depends on whether you judge value by career value or prime value.
-
Well, he made the majors when he was 19, so the first 4 seasons occured when most pitchers are still in the minors. I'd also point out his 0.95 World Series ERA, in 8 starts. Lefty Grove is better, I'll give you that.
-
I knew Alex Gonzalez would lead his team to victory.
-
Koufax was just about every bit as good as advertised. His only flaw was that his prime years lasted just 4 seasons.

Next is alfdogg, followed by two picks by dangerous a
