Heck, cheering for a losing team can be better, because it makes it all the sweeter when they actually win. I can't think that any of the Yankees World Series win have been more memorable than the Phillies '93 season.

Your case isn't bandwagon jumping. In my view, bandwagon jumping is when you abandon a favored team for one which is winning.

I think we've seen this before. In any case, I go with baseball, for a few reasons. 1. Baseball's history is so well known. Ask your average sport fan who holds the rushing record, or the touchdown record. And ask them how many they have. They probably couldn't tell you. But even casual fans can tell you how many HRs Hank Aaron had. 2. Baseball lasts for seven months a year, produces ten times as many games, and still maintains the fans interest. Its easy for football to draw huge crowds and interest when there's only 16 games a year.

You know, its funny how people talk about all the times the Red Sox failed, but for all the times they've "choked," they've also had some amazing performances. Look at the 1967 pennant race. Game 6 of the '75 Series. The '86 ALCS. The '99 ALDS against Cleveland.

It's ridiculous to boo them. 90% of the time, they are trying hard. Yes, I know its taboo to say athletes actually work hard, and care about their performance, but they do. They're not playing like crap on purpose, and booing only creates hard feelings in the future. I've referenced Pat Burrell a few times. We have a superstar player, having an abysmal season, and he's cheered. Why? Because Philadelphia fans appreciate the effort, and we know he can hit again.
-
So why can't it work the other way around. You say its ok to get on the athlete's case, so why can't he get on yours a little? You know, the funny thing about that statement is that the Yankees actually had the best record in the 1980s.

If you don't like Martinez pissing and moaning, try turning off the radio.

Who the hell picked up Garret Stephenson?

Reason #341 why the Red Sox can't win the World Series: Idiot fans who don't recognize the value of talent when they see it. Reason #342 why the Red Sox can't win the World Series: Trading away good players because of concerns over "chemestry."

Waivers don't matter with Brian Giles, because the Padres have first shot anyway. They claim him, and then the Pirates can either pull him back, or trade him.

I remember one morning they aired the Pat O'Connor vs. Buddy Rogers NWA Title Match.

Exactly. This list is based on the premise that pro wrestling is a legitimate sport.

Closers SHOULD go into games with the game tied. Not doing so is a waste of a pitching staff, because A. Your closer should be your best reliever, and B. A tie game is a situation where you can least afford a run allowed, ESPECIALLY in the bottom of the 10th.

Holy crap what a game last night.

George Brett played in the LLWS. I think Wade Boggs may have as well.

I don't think the little league World Series is a problem. It's a legitimate sport, with a 60+ year history.

Will the 03 Tigers break the 62 Met's loss record?

Better talent-wise, I mean. Their hitters underperformed severely to start the season. Since their miserable start they've played better than .250. -

I don't think so. They have to maintain a .250 pace to break the record. They're better than that at least. -
Randall Simon isn't any better than Choi when you get down to it. And why trade away Bobby Hill? The Cubs are throwing the pennant away at this point.

Cool, that's pretty good loyalty then. I'm a Cards fan, but I really wouldn't have expected any less from Philly fans. I remember watching that game on tv. It was amazing the amount of support they were giving him. And now, he's starting to hit again. I think alot of it was that the Phillie fans could see that Burrell was putting 100% out, and they respect that.

There's no minimum to the number of games a team can lose. If your team is bad enough, it is possible to lose 162 games. The Rangers have won 57 games so far. Those wins have to be earned from somewhere, and its not their pitching. A-Rod is winning games for the Rangers. They might not be in contention, but that's not Alex's fault. Fact is, he's more responsible for the Rangers meager success than any other MVP candidate on "winning" teams. Ichiro has Bret Boone, Edgar Martinez, John Olreud, and the pitching staff helping out. Rodriguez is doing it on his own.

Giambi is the spokesman for selling out. I never begrudge a player for taking a good contract, but he SHAVED. Its like watching Dude Love in the WWF. He turned from an A's slugging bad-ass to a Yankee's corporate whore, shilling deoderant on tv.
-
But in Philly's defense, I present Pat Burrell. Spent half the season hitting .200, and the fans cheered the heck out of him, and now he's started to hit again.

Why are we supposed to boo Rolen this much anyway?
