Watching this show now on WWE 24/7. A handful of thoughts. -Roddy Piper is quite obnoxious outside the ring. Ric Flair mentions that Piper accompanied him to the ring in that infamous defense against Jack Veneno in the Dominican. No wonder the fans wanted to riot. -The midget match features Tiger Jackson. Jackson acquired bigger fame in wrestling nearly a decade later, as Dink the Clown. Watching Jackson, I'm surprised he did not receive more acclaim in the midget wrestling circuit. He's good. -A main event anywhere in the country? It sounds silly at times. But if a regional circuit ran Jay Strongbow vs. Masked Superstar, they probably could have sold a large house. The phrase became a joke when wrestling went national, but if you look at regional circuits and the talent WWE signed, you can see the purpose.

The MSG shows often held their main events before the end of the card. Usually they would have the main event, then a couple lesser matches to carry them to the 11pm curfew.

Having runners on second and third helped. The Phillies are still rolling, a sweep of Atlanta leaves them 6.5 back of first place.

Florida St. and North Carolina win their games to advance to Omaha, joining Stanford. Meanwhile, Georgia has scored seven runs in the first inning. Not a good day so far for competitive baseball.

4-3 Phillies in the ninth. I'd hate to see the Braves lose yet another one-run game, so hopefully the Phillies can tack on more runs to ease the pain.

Dan Giese again outpitches Joba Chamberlain.

I have five different games to choose from right now with the Yankees/Royals, Phillies/Braves, IronPigs/Red Wings, and two college playoff games.

Being that it's around 90 this weekend and my air conditioner cant even keep my room cold with that heat, I promised a hearty "fuck you" to everyone who bitched when the weather was palatable. So Czech, here's your's.

A packed schedule with seven games today. ESPN has 1pm and 4pm games, ESPN2 has a 7pm game. Alternate games apparently on ESPNU. A Super-Regional is best of three, so there are three winner-takes-all games today. 1pm North Carolina vs. Coastal Carolina (NC leads series 1-0) Florida St. vs. Wichita St. (series tied 1-1) 4pm NC State vs. Georgia (series tied 1-1) LSU vs. UC Irvine (UC Irvine leads series 1-1) 7pm Miami vs. Arizona (series tied 1-1) Texas A&M vs. Rice (Rice leads series 1-0) 10pm Arizona St. vs. Fresno St. (Arizona St. leads series 1-0)

King of the Ring: The Early Years
EVIL~! alkeiper replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in WWE Multimedia
I hadn't watched the King of the Ring '93 show in maybe 15 years. Bret Hart wrestles three good matches on the show. The other matches on the tournament are decent enough not to drag things down. The middle matches are ok, nothing spectacular but inoffensive. Hogan/Yokozuna is a piece of wrestling history. It's hard to believe now that Hogan would not wrestle in the promotion again for another nine years. -
Citizens Bank Park is the only MLB park I've been to more than once. Minor league parks tend not to be terribly exotic in their fare. I love the food in Philly, lots of options and most of it is good. Only problem is that their concourses get much too crowded, they are slender and they put carts on the side in many spots, creating logjams. I can't judge any other park really since I've only had 1-2 menu items.
-
I honestly agree with the author. I think there's a difference between an authentic cheesesteak and something mass-produced for foodservice at a ballpark. In the main article though, the author mentions the "Schmitter" sandwich, which I wholeheartedly recommend.

The NY Times looks at ballpark food. Check out the entry for the Chicago White Sox. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2008/06...RK_GRAPHIC.html

Miami leads Arizona 11-7 in the 6th on ESPN. Miami needs to win to force game three, a loss would send the #1 nationally ranked team home.

Cantu isn't that impressive overall. He has pop but he's a hacker, and his defense is below-average. Joey Votto is hitting lefties fine this season, so no big loss to not have a platoon partner. As for the vs. team splits, they are free at Baseball-reference.com, and you can look them up either by year or by career. Your memory is faulty, Cantu did not hit a home run at all in the earlier series. Cody Ross hit two home runs in that series though, and he was briefly a Red.

That loss must have been a punch in the gut to Braves fans. Between the Phillies' tying run scoring on an error and the Braves' tying run getting thrown out at the plate. The Phillies increased their division lead to 3.5 games, the biggest lead they have enjoyed in seven years.

I don't really have time to find pictures. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood vs. Sgt. Slaughter & Don Kernodle - Cage Match for the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship. March 1983. A runner-up for PWI match of the year, and a fantastic battle.

The "Vent about not having Program X on 24/7" Thread
EVIL~! alkeiper replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in WWE Multimedia
Oddly, it took Blue Ridge Cable two days to update the system. -
Ok, what the heck is the point in pulling the double-switch to get the platoon switch with the other team's CLOSER at the plate?
-
I don't think walking hitters is going to win anything. The guy's slugging under .400, you've got to challenge him.
-
I don't know if it's worth starting a new thread for the MLB draft, which kicks off at 2pm tomorrow afternoon. The draft is interesting because several of the players are still active in the college postseason. I'll try and put together a list together Friday morning of draftees in the Super Regionals and their respective teams.

The Phillies are up 2.5 games on the east. The last time they were so far in front was July 5, 2004.
