From 1956 on, the most was Jim Maloney of the Reds walking ten while no-hitting the Cubs. Maloney needed to pitch ten innings to get that one.

Well, in fairness Bourn is crazy fast.

Since it is currently airing on 24/7 and we've seen the TNT buildup on that program, I figured this show deserved its own thread. I'm giving the show a fresh look and I'll have more thoughts later. From what I've seen of the hype it's essentially a six match show. Hogan-Bundy (Cage) NFL/Wrestler Battle Royal Bulldogs/Dream Team (Tag Title) Savage/George Steele (IC Title) JYD/Santana vs. Funks Mr. T/Roddy Piper (Boxing) Those were the matches with some kind of backstory. The other matches are essentially filler material, maybe mentioned beforehand but not given a lot of buildup. Each segment has two hype matches and two filler matches.

What ground can you add to the Benoit story that has not already been covered?

Bob Brenly just claimed that at a game in Candlestick Park, they had to use two pitchers in the outfield. I'm curious to see if this is the case (during Brenly's playing career). Brenly is spot on. Here is the game. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SF...198609280.shtml

Hey gang. Figured I would open up the floor a bit here. We haven't done this in quite some time and with new ownership, it seems like a good idea. -Do you guys feel there are too many all encompassing threads? Currently the last ten topics in the forum include two NBA threads, an MLB thread, an NHL thread, the NFL offseason thread, two fantasy baseball threads. A great deal of the discussion involves posting about games ongoing and little else. Should we change that somehow? -Should we encourage more topics based on issues in sports? -Are there any valid complaints about my actions here?

Let's Talk About Wrestlemania 2

Starrcade had attempted the two arena concept first in 1985. Remember the primary source of national viewers in the era was still closed circuit television. Fans would come to the arenas both for live matches, and to see the other arena's matches on closed circuit. I think WWE in using three arenas was simply trying to one-up Jim Crockett. With Pay-Per-View, you need a full card of live matches to draw fans into the building. I don't think you can entice them with 2/3rds of a card on a big screen. -
Nope, never happened to me.

Why don't you often see teams move a pitcher to the field and back? There are a couple of problems with the move, one being that you have to take a hitter out of the lineup to do it. Since it is a corner outfielder, it is usually a good hitter. Second, teams carry five man benches, and seven man bullpens. In that scenario, pitchers are much more expendable than hitters. Heck, Charlie Manuel NOW can't get through a nine inning game without burning his bench.

I haven't been able to get into MLS on a meaningful level. With a team moving into Philadelphia in 2010, that will certainly change. It's a couple years off, but I can't wait to check it out.

I actually watched this show a couple weeks ago before it aired on 24/7. A couple of thoughts. -Rock/Hogan is clearly the highlight match of the show. That and Arn Anderson's spinebuster though are clearly the only memorable moments of the night. -There is not a bad match on the card, quite honestly. But almost every match falls in the 2-3 star range. Absolutely nothing special to watch, either in performance or results. -The storylines coming in are absolutely atrocious. Hulk Hogan ran a truck into the Rock's limo. Vince McMahon had co-owner Ric Flair put on hiatus. Edge is feuding with Booker T over a shampoo commercial. Chris Jericho ran over Triple H's dog. What the fuck?

One more, Les Lancaster. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...199006131.shtml

It's worth mentioning that it occurred due to necessity. The Mets had several players ejected and were out of position players.
-
Let me see if I can find some examples. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BO...199307150.shtml Jeff Nelson pitches, moves to LF and then pitches again. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/LA...199110010.shtml Roger McDowell pulls the trick for the LA Dodgers.

IronPigs laid an egg tonight, one hit all night in a 4-0 loss. I did get to meet the Phillies' president David Montgomery briefly. Very pleasant individual.
-
This is something I've took in consideration, but haven't quite figured out yet. The entire league has been cut by 14 teams from actual 1986. That takes out quite a bit of the scrubs. The star players in this league will almost certainly produce lower numbers than their real life counterparts, due to the increased competition.
-
The Phillies got one hit, and failed even to get a runner to second base. As pathetic an offensive performance as they've mustered the last ten years. 0-2. That's not bad on its own merits. The problem is that the Phillies have started 1-6 three of the last four years. It's disgusting.
-
Personally I'm not fond of too many pinned threads. Duplicate threads haven't been a problem here at all.
-
Probably not, since most of the discussion is honestly planning fantasy leagues. It helps to have that stuff visible to recruit players.
-
We've tried it before, it usually dies. Maybe the best time is to wait for the next broadcast of Fox baseball.
-
It's not as if the Phillies have this wonderful pitching staff either. I have a feeling both the East and Central will become battles of attrition by August.

People think they are headed in the right direction at long last. They still need to acquire the pure talent.

The New York Yankees drafted both Fred McGriff and John Elway in 1981. -
Obviously the season isn't over for the Cubs, that's hyperpole. The Cubs have played like shit today though, making several errors and mistakes all over the diamond. If Piniella starts replacing some of these guys with "proven veterans," there's a good reason.
