I'm with Harley on this. I try and only grab guys that I consider prospects really late. That way if they work out they are a great value for the next season and if they don't it's not a big deal. Anyone I draft in the first 9 rounds better be giving me some quality, consistent production. I had my eyes on Longoria in the draft but I under no circumstances wanted to take him prior to round 8. I even thought drafting him in round 8 was taking quite a risk on a guy that's unproven in the majors. I should have guessed he would have went earlier than he should have based on how soon Alex Gordon got drafted last year. It seems like everyone always gets overly excited over 3rd base prospects. Oh well, I'll stick with Scott Rolen nub of a finger and Jack Hannahan for now. Hannahan was fairly productive in the season opener.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

I really hate when someone is interviewed and responds with, "Y'know, it is what it is."

    This week in the NBA

Philadelphia beat the Celtics tonight in Boston. Iguodala worked the Boston for 10 straight points in the 4th during a Philly 19-0 run. Philly has won 10 of their last 12 games. They have wins over Phoenix, San Antonio, Denver, Boston, and Detroit during this current run. They've got Chicago on Wednesday, so they'll be 11 of 13 on Friday when the face the Suns.

White Knickerbockers is going to with the consolation bracket and be crowned Best of the Rest. Book it! That team has played pretty good the past month and a half. The only thing that kept them out of the playoffs was the 2 straight losses to TOOG and Marvin.

    MLB Season Opener Thread

The opener is going to be exciting with Daisuke pitching in Japan. The atmosphere should be great. I'm a lot more interested in the second game though. I really want to see how Rich Harden is going to perform.

On paper it should be good, but I've seen how terrible Ryan Dempster and Rich Hill look at times. I think Dempster really should just be a middle relief pitcher. That Cubs bullpen still can use some improvement. I'd rather have Wood closing simply because it's going to be easier on his body. I'm more concerned with the disaster that is Scott Eyre. I think he's the Cubs only LHP in the bullpen. ESPN is listing some guy named Carmen Pignatiello as another lefty.

    This week in the NBA

Dallas needs to just miss the playoffs and try to improve through the draft. Jason Kidd clearly isn't the answer. Dallas shouldn't have panicked when they saw everyone else in the West making huge trades. New Jersey is awful too, but I think they have a better shot at making the playoffs than Dallas.

    TSM NBA H2H: Year 5

There's no question this is going to be an interesting matchup. I've tied quite a few matchups in recent weeks. If we end up in a tie again, I think you'll win the matchup because of having a .003% better winning percentage than me. I'm stuck with the corpse of Dwyane Wade on my bench. Amazingly, my team has still been competitive without him. I attribute a lot of it to Troy Murphy and Drew Gooden playing way better than they normally do. I was planning on grabbing Jaric but you managed to get to him before me. That has me a little concerned about the assist situation. It looks like we both have a ton of schedule conflicts this week on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

I'd offer you something but my options at 3rd are extremely awful right now. I just had to pick up Jack Hannahan off waivers because Scott Rolen just got hurt today in practice... Fractured finger tip and ripped off fingernail.

The original purpose behind weekly rosters was so teams would actually have to make a decision once a week on what players they wanted to play for an entire week. The problem with daily changes is in a lot of matchups winners are decided on whoever wants to either rotate players in off their bench or the free agent list. With pitching it becomes a game of who can make the most moves picking up random starters to fill up your stat categories. With our current format, you have to make tough decisions each week on how many and which SPs you want to go with and how many RPs you want playing. With daily changes it is just way too simple and there aren't any tough choices to make when it comes to starting or benching roster personal because it only has an effect on one day not seven days. With daily changes it’s going to put teams that are trying to develop prospects on their bench at an even bigger disadvantage. With weekly changes I feel I can keep 1 or 2 guys on my bench and see how they’re gonna work out without feeling like they are hurting my team. That is my main reasoning behind why weekly changes are much better than daily. This league usually isn't decided by the all star break. Roto leagues are typically set in stone after the first 2 months. We have 20 teams in this league. You have a new opponent every week of the season until the final 3 weeks of the regular season. If you have a brutal early schedule, in theory, it should get easier towards the end of the season. I know I was at the bottom of the league last year and was still trying just as hard at the end of the season as I was early on.

    Rock Band!

You must hate all of the enjoyable things in life. Rock Band is the best group/party game I've ever played. It has a lot more staying power than Guitar Hero. Next week we're getting a Boston song pack for download. The update was much needed since it added an area for full albums and it fixed some of the microphone issues with the PS3. We should be getting Who's Next and Nevermind pretty soon I'd think.

    This week in the NBA

The Miami Heat lost by 42 points tonight against the Raptors. The final score was 96 to 54. The Heat shot 26% from the field. 54 points in a game is third lowest in NBA history. Fucking terrible.

Uribe is god awful. If the Orioles think that .230 average from last season is going to help them out, than they can have him. He hit 15 of his 20 HR's at home last year. He's going to be utterly useless away from Chicago. The Chicago media is already starting to panic because Kerry Wood missed today's game with back spasms.

    New Dollar Store Shopper

Wal-Marts are disasters everywhere. The same bowels of society can be found in every Wal-Mart across the States. I've never actually gone to Wal-Mart and thought I'm glad I'm here. I do wonder how she dresses down to go to the Dollar Palace.
