Match with Most Crowd Heat EVER

I have to agree with everyone who mentions Canadian Stampede. It was so loud the camera was vibrating.

    Shawn Michaels vs British Bulldog

Thanks, I remember Bret said once that Dave's Montreal story was on his website. But I'd hadn't read it in forever and didn't rememeber the One Night Only details being a part of the story. That's why I said Sept. '97 (when ONO happened) instead of Nov. '97.

    Oscar predictions

Well, I've thought about it and here are my final predictions. In a good year I can get 75-80 percent. Best Picture The Aviator Finding Neverland Million Dollar Baby Ray Sideways I'm petty sure about 4 of them, Ray is my fifth choice. I don't think any other movies have momentum. Best Director Clint Eastwood, Million Dollar Baby Marc Forster, Finding Neverland Michel Gondry, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Alexander Payne, Sideways Martin Scorsese, The Aviator One Best Picture Director always gets snubbed in favor of a wild card who directed a movie that they didn't want to nominate for Best Picture. I'm pretty sure Taylor Hackford is the guy that's gonna get snubbed. It's wishful thinking, but I'm giving the slot to Gondry. Best Actor Javier Bardeem, The Sea Inside Johnny Depp, Finding Neverland Leonardo DiCaprio, The Aviator Jamie Foxx, Ray Paul Giamatti, Sideways Bardeem over Don Cheadle Best Actress Annette Bening, Being Julia Catalina Sandino Moreno, Maria Full of Grace Imelda Staunton, Vera Drake Hillary Swank, Million Dollar Baby Kate Winslet, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Best Supporting Actor David Caradine, Kill Bill: Vol. 2 Thomas Haden Church, Sideways Jamie Foxx, Collateral Morgan Freeman, Million Dollar Baby Clive Owen, Closer Best Supporting Actress Cate Blanchett, The Avaiator Laura Linney, Kinsey Virgina Madsen, Sideways Natalie Portman, Closer Kate Winslett, Finding Neverland Meryl Streep for Manchurian Canidate might replace one of them. Best Original Screenplay The Aviator Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Hotel Rwanda Kinsey Maria Full of Grace Maria in the fifth slot, because I don't see them nominating Garden State or the Incredibles. That fifth slot may go to Ray. Best Adapted Screenplay Closer Finding Neverland Million Dollar Baby The Motorcycle Diaries Sideways

    In Good Company

The theater was littered with teenage girls when I saw it. He must have some kind of following. Better him than Ashton Kutcher I guess.

    SNL Review

Solid show, but nothing was out of the park. The only optimism I have about Paris Hilton is that the last couple of times I thought a show would suck because of who was hosting (Timberlake, Nick & Jessica, Trump) it turned out to be a good show.

    Back To The Future DVDs

Its Universal, not FOX. You could send the defective disc in and recieve corrected replacements. Universal said corrected box sets would be in stores when the first printing sold out. The corrected versions of the box set are supposed to have "V2" near the barcode, but The Digital Bits said they never got one report of the corrected box being spotted in stores. Universal is lowering the price because BTTF is going out of print and they're trying to get rid of their inventory. TV Shows On DVD.com EDIT: Askewniverse beat me to it.

    Shawn Michaels vs British Bulldog

you really should credit Dave Meltzer when almost verbatim reprinting his recap of the scenario. -Paul Jacobi- Yeah, how else was I gonna know about. I thought it was assumed that any accurate info we knew was because of Meltzer and Keller. I was telling the story from what I remembered , not verbatim trancribing. If I knew of Observer story from Sept. '97 being on the web somewhere, I'd happily link to it.

    Shawn Michaels vs British Bulldog

They did a spot during the match where Davey's knee buckled while he was on the outside. It wasn't real, they just did it to establish his knee as a problem so Shawn could work it over. The match ended when Davey passed out in Shawn's figure four. Davey had knee surgery months later, but it wasn't because of that match (I thought he hurt it, or at least aggrivated it, in Montral at the Bret-Vince scuffle when Shane McMahon stepped on his leg or somthing like that.

    Shawn Michaels vs British Bulldog

For heat, nothing compares to One Night Only. Davey Boy was told he was winning the match, so he went around promoting the show in the U.K. media and saying that his sister, who has cancer, will be in the front row cherring him on and that he's dedicating the match to her. The day of the show Shawn decides he wants to win the match and the European title, Vince tells Bulldog that the next U.K. ppv is in his hometown of Manchester and it will make a great story for Bulldog to win it back there. Bulldog reluctently agreed. The match (with Davey Boy's family including his sister, who died months later, sitting in the front row and acknowledged often on camera) is really good and ends with Shawn winning with tons of interference from HHH, Chyna, and Rick Rude. The crowd is pissed. DX directs some of their crotch chops at Bulldog's wife and sister, Shawn gets on the mike and calls the crowd a bunch of lymies, and the crowd pelted the ring with garbage comparable to the early days of the nWo. Bret was pissed because he and Owen wrestled earlier and he wondered why they weren't scripted to at least make the save for Davey Boy after the match. Montreal was two months later and the Buldog obviously was gone by the time the Manchester show happened (not like Shawn was ever really gonna lose it anyway). On the list of all of Shawn's evil political moves, I rank that near the top. And this is coming form someone who thought he should have been in the Observer Hall of Fame Long before he was voted in.
  11. Mankind - Around May/June '97 Jim Ross did a series of sit down interviews with Mankind in a studio telling a slighlty fictional story of Foley's life and career. The next time he came out to wrestle, he was getting cheered.

  13. Spivey may have been there, but he wasn't getting a push. They did an angle where Teddy Long would watch squash matches from the entrence way and the announcers would say he was "scouting for talent". The Skyscrapers were just introduced one week and beat a squash team, there was no angle to set them up as a team.

Considering the show's going away for three weeks, I thought it was a good cliffhanger. But I'm not too excited since I'm almost certain that she won't remember anything.

    Dave Chapelle on Home Improvement

Dave was interviewed on 60 Minutes and when the reporter was going over his carrer noted that from about '92 to '02 Dave had been cast in 10 pilots and "Buddies" was the only one that made it to air. This tells you all you need to know about networks: I read an article about the success of shows on basic cable such as Chapelle, The Shield, and Nip/Tuck. They asked an anonomous executive why networks can't make shows like that and (besides the content issues) the executive said something to the effect of "You think Comedy Central made some great discovery, we've known how funny Dave Chapelle is for 10 years, we just can't put him on network television."

    Dave Chapelle on Home Improvement

"Buddies" Episode Guide I could have sworn that Jim Breuer was on a couple of episodes, then they pulled it off the air and replaced him and the show got canceled again. But this guide dosen't show it.
  21. Radio WWF was a sydicated radio program. I remember seeing JR and Gorilla at Summerslam and Survivor Series '93. When they were on camera, Vince said they were braodcasting the event over radio for Armed Services Radio. I don't think you could hear the event on regular radio. At Summerslam JR and Gorilla were in a skybox, but at Survivor Series they were sitting on the floor next to Vince and Bobby. They traded positions for a match and JR and Gorilla called the Rock 'n' roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies Match on TV while Vince and Bobbby did radio.

    SNL Review

Good Show this week. I thought Update was okay. I laughed at Down and Out Dollar more than anything else. I thought Clinton undressing Rachel was the highlight of the skit. Beaver Ranch was okay, it would have been funnier if Rachel had just said the line about the music changing by itself without walking to the radio. Rachel being the go to old lady is matched only by her the the go to castmember to play a little boy. Bob, did you ever watch the Cosby show? I thought Maya's Phylisha impression worked. Will Forte's Zell Miller impression is scary, I'm afraid his head gonna blow up. That vain shouldn't be popping out. Looking for to Paul Giamatti, he's funny. Did you know his dad was Bart Giamatti, the baseball commisioner. Was Jason Sudakis the guy named "Chris"? I don't know what he looks like. Who was the girl that complained about the Jets?

    In Good Company

The Tpoher-Scarlet romance is really overblown in the ads. The movie is really about Dennis Quaid and Topher. I didn't even think Scarlet deserved over the title billing because of how little screentime she has compared to them. I thought the movie was entertaining, but by the numbers.

    Big Fatt Obnoxious Boss

From TVtome.com I only saw part of this show once when Arrested Development was going to start late because of football, so I set my tape to record an extra hour. FOX has done this before, they canceled a show where a women had to decide which of the guys competing for her were gay before it ended. I remember Ain't It Cool News saying that it was going to be reavealed to be a chimp. Reality TV is so cheap to make that the networks can throw shit up against a wall and see what sticks. When it flops (The Will, Who's your Daddy, Joe Milllionare 2, and all the ones less that no one rememebers), the networks act embaressed, ashamed, and say they went too far. When it's a hit (Survivor, Joe Millionare 1, The Bachalor, The Apprentice) they act like they're geniuses and instinctively knew what the audience was looking for. Edit: Speak of the Devil...

I said it after the Charlie death tease, they keep pulling this and they're gonna be the show that cried wolf.
