Good Morning America Sunday showed the unedited footage as well.

I thought it was Jennifer Lopez's Mom that hit the jackpot.

    SNL Review

The show was just okay, as as been usal this year. I don't think Amy is as horrible on Update as Bob does, but Seth would have been better. Hardball and Tony Blair were funny. I don't know if evnough people have seen that vaccume commercial for a parody of it to get a big responce. I think basing a skit on Jane Eyre is just asking for it to go over the audiences head. When Ashleig's lipsink came on I think her band took that as a que to play 'Pieces of Me' instead of whatever they were supposed to play. It'll be interesting to see if shows like ET go after the lipsink story or just go with the spin Ashliegh's people and (since they altered the West Coast feed) SNL will try to put on it.
  4. I'm suprised that Zing made it on the air, usually they don't bother with recurring characters during the last skit. The commercial parodies were the best part this week. The show was just average this week, I didn't think anything really hit. Bob's stand by stories have made me want to try waitnig in line if I'm ever in NYC during a show week. (Not likely since I'm in Texas).

  6. The added commercials make it even easier to show up 10 minutes late and still not miss any of the movie. Now, if they were to start the commercials 10 minutes before the advertised start time of the movie instead of at the start time... Yeah, but I've been to theaters where they sometimes actually do that. I showed up at the theater exactly at the start time and figured I wouldn't miss anything because they would show commercials and trailers, only to discover that those had started 15 minutes earlier and I missed the begining of the movie because it really started at the time listed.

    The OAO 'Garden State' Thread

If anyone was wondering, the DVD was just announced for release on December 28th. I saw the movie in August and wrote my thoughts in a thread that hardly anyone read (I didn't realize at the time that this thread had been started. This is what I wrote.

    Garden State

Last Sunday I saw Garden State. I loved it and thought it was the best movie I've seen since Eternal Sunshine. Not because of the main story (Zack Braff's perscriptions and relationship with his father), but because of the love story particularly how its resolved. Although calling anything the main story isn't really fair since the movie is really a series of vignettes that slowly move the plot along. If you didn't already have a crush on Natalie Portman, you should after this movie. The TV ads don't show it, since they don't want people to expect a laugh riot, but it's also very funny. I havn't seen the movie mentioned on this board. I know it's only been playing major cities but this weekend it expaneded to the megaplexes and I highly recomend it. Has anyone else here seen it? Thoughts?

Ralph Fiennes cast in Harry Potter 4

Before the first movie they offered Tim Roth the part of Professor Snape (The guy Alan Rickman plays), but he decided to do "Planet of the Apes" instead.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

The Digital Bits just posted new cover art. I like this a lot better. It's closer to the poster and I love the image of Joel and Clementine on thin ice.

    Needed to write this

I don't think anyone here knows me, (you probably don't unless you read Bob Barron's SNL threads) but I felt like writing this so I hope you'll endulge me. Yesterday morning my Grandmother (on my mother's side) passed away in her sleep at the age of 84. She was very frail the last several years, so we may have been prepared for it mentaly, but it's still tough. I was lucky enough to reach the age of 24 and still have all four of my Grandparents around, so I've never lost anyone this close before. My family is doing well, were all just helping my Grandfather get through this. They were married for 62 years and I can't imagine the pain he's going through right now. I know my family is going to help each other through this. I know this is cliched, but everyone should really let your loved ones know you love them and how much they mean to you.

Even though I knew I wasn't alone in having this expierience, it was still nice to read those messages and have it confirmed. That's what I meant.
  13. I've shown patience with DVD in the past on Black Hawk Down, Panic Room, Seven, and Goodfellas. But I'm really worried I'll break on Kill Bill. I've got Vol. 1 and I'll get Vol. 2, so I really hope they don't release seperate Vol. 1 & 2 Special Editions before the big box set. If the Michael Jai White deleted scene is really on the Vol. 2 release, that would be a good sign against the seperate Special editions happening (I would figure deleted scenes are something that would be held off until those Special Editions). Both parts together are 4 hours as is. I would hope the box set's new cut of the film is either the Super long version with everthing he filmed, but I'm betting on a 3 hour reedit that will show how he would have made the whole thing flow if he had been forced to keep it as one movie instead of two. I would still want to see everythng that wasn't included in any version as bonuses.
  14. Thanks for the condolences Bob. Something I forgot to mention: What was the deal with Darrell Hammond in the Farewell Jimmy skit? He just stood there like he was upset about being there. I'll be suprised if Darrell is back in the fall. If they knew for certain he was leaving I think some sort of mention of it was warrented (not a skit or anything, but just mention it and give him a close up in the goodnights).

    Jimmy Fallon Leaving SNL...

Of the current cast, my vote is for Will Forte to replace Jimmy on Update. Although Bob's been campaigning for Seth Myers for so long that I'd be okay with that choice. If it's someone new I hope they get someone who actually follows the news and brings a little more bite to update.
  16. Anyone who read my thread in the General Chat folder hopefully understands that SNL was a welcome distraction this weekend. Good show to end the season on. Farewell Jimmy was increadible, I thought for Jimmy and Tina were going to kiss and I was dissapointed that they didn't. Mary-Kate and Ashley Perfume was the 2nd best of the night. Update was good as usual, Backpack Shack was so stupid it became entertaining, I liked Hardball as well. Z-105 has grown on me. On Monday, a morning radio show was talking about this skit and Jimmy leaving. They kept playing a tape of Jimmy saying "AND WERE BAAACK" and talked about there being a word in the industry for D.J.'s like that (though I can't remember the word). I was shocked that Jimmy brought up Dave Coulier and did't say "Cut-it-out". Paparazzi had its moments, I think the skits are meant to give the guest star a chance to vent about the annoying questions they get asked (i.e. Aniston asking "When are you having a baby?" and the twins asking "Which one is which?") rather than have the guest mock themselves. The Swan was good but I thought having Amy's character in the skit took away from really giving it to the show. Until Bob mentioned it I hadn't thought of Nick Burns in ages. They hadn't done that in forever. BTW, I was just think how weird it was that a year ago Jimmy joked on update about all of the SNL reruns on cable and now because of the NBC/E! lawsuit there's no reruns at all. I was really dissapointed that there was no final Boston Teens skit. The characters originated at Second City Chicago with Rachel's character and Tina playing her mother. I was suprised that Tina never repraised the role on SNL once she joined the cast. I always thought the perfect last Boston teens skit should have had Rachel and Jimmy getting married because Rachel was pregnant. Though to believe that Jarrod's room and Bloater Bros. got a last skit but this didn't. I think it was a good season overall with Megan Mallaley, Timeberlake, Nick & Jessica, Colin Firth, and Affleck being the standouts. I was happy to see them say that next week would be Best of Christopher Walken (I expect a montage of The Continental's funniest moments). The only other guest that has gotten the Best of treatment is Steve Martin. I would love for them to do Best of's for Alec Baldwin, John Goodman, and Tom Hanks. I think that diner skit with Jan Hooks as the waitress and Baldwin as the denim cowboy customer is a classic.

Just wanted to thank everyone who posted condolences, it meant a lot.
  18. It's the same photo that's on the cover of the soundtrack CD.
  19. Okay show, but nothing over the top. The opening and update were all that did it for me. The dead crowd really hurt the show this week. I'd call the somewhere in the middle of this seasons episodes. Not a bad one, but certainly not the best. I remember ABC Fall Schedule and Ferricito being on earlier, not sure why Bob got the order wrong. Bob, did you forget, not realize, or not care about Mom Jeans being a year and a half old and this is the third time they've run it? It dosen't matter since it's really funny (better that than Huggies Thong), but you reviewed it as if it were new.
  20. This was a sidebar in the new EW with Brad Pitt on the cover. After Maya being named one of the 25 funniest people, will Bob's head explode over this one.

    Tonight's Survivor

I thought the only 2 rules on Survivor were : 1.) You're not allowed to physically attack one of the other contestants. 2.) Your're not allowed to conspire to split the money. By getting engaged, didn't Rob and Amber break rule #2?

    Elephant

I thought it was interesting. In the begining I was losing my mind waiting for something to happen, but by the 25 min. mark I was oddly entertained and thought Gus Van Sant was doing a good job of capturing a typical High School with typical kids. I didn't think I was as great as the critcs said it was. I also thought it got pretentious in areas after the shooting started. I also hated the very last scene. BTW, contrary to what's been said the movie is fiction not based on any one school shooting in particular.
  23. Good show. Harry Potter, Update, Sleepover, and Debbie Downer were all good. I liked the tatoo comercial as well. Is the entire season really gonna go by without John Goodman showing up.
