This was a good episode. Nothing as great, but nothing was horrible either either. I'd say it was the second best show of the season, after Timberlake. Hearing about Celebrity Poker makes me wish they hadn't cut it.

I asked because back in September when SNL was nominted for the Emmy for Best Writing, they submitted the Al Gore episode. So on Emmy night when all of the writer's names were read of as nominees, after all of the names we're familiar with, the last two names read off were Al Franken and Kristin Gore. Seeing Franken's credit made me think of it. I think on the Alec Baldwin show there was a credit for Tom Davis.

I thought Steve Forbes had dropped out of the race by the time he hosted.

Critics get to see movies early. I know that sucks, but why is everybody acting suprised by it. And I assume that list belongs to Peter Travers, since he's Rolling Stones' critic.

Okay show, not up there with the McCain and Gore shows. I thought the funniest skit was Three Wise Men. Jeff Zucker, Update, and the dems were funny. Mom Jeans was really funny (though it was a repeat from last May, Bob usiually mentions that kind of stuff). Yeah, I also figure Dems had to be the skit written by Al Franken. Bob, on the Gore show, do you know which skit Gore's daughter wrote? Everything else was passable, except LaToya and Vasquez (though Keenan's Chaka Khan was good). Bob said Canada dosn't get the little 5 second bit where they come back during commercial and show what's going on in the studio, so I know he didn't see this. But did any else notice during the commercial after the Michael Jackson skit that they showed Johnnie Cochran (or a guy that looked a hell of a lot like him) in the audience watching the show. Those bits were better when you could hear the stage manager say what skit was next and call the cast. BTW, during update they did a bit making fun of all the cities not running the show last night. I think they listed all of Iowa, Boston, Portland ME, Sacramento, Memphis, Nashville, Oaklahoma City, and a town in Minnesota I can't remember. There were probably more that I'm missing. I heard parts of Iowa were getting infomercials instead of a rerun. Here in Houston, there was an election for mayor and the local station was planning on pushing SNL back 30 minutes. But none of the races were close so it was only 10 min, but they had an annoying results ticker pop up several time during the show. I hate when they do that.

Tarantino has said in an interview that they'll be doing the Lord of the Rings deal where there will a Vol.1 release, a Vol.2 release, and a third one with both films. He didn't mention if the third release would combine it back into one movie or not. I've heard that he now considers Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 to be seperate films.

Eraserhead is available at davidlynch.com, but I think it's $40 and has no bonus features. At the top of my list: Dazed and Confused S.E. Goodfellas S.E. Bottle Rocket S.E. (Criterion, to go along with Rushmore and The Royal Tennenbaums). From the "never been on DVD yet" file: Short Cuts Hearts of Darkness (the Apocalypse Now documentary) and Special Edition releases of: The American President Batman & Batman Returns Big The Deer Hunter Dog Day Afternoon Get Shorty Mean Streets Meatballs Misery Raging Bull Stripes Trainspotting

John Feinstein is a great writer. I agree that his College Basketball books are his best. I think his golf books sell the most, so he feels obligated to write about it. His last one came out in May and is called Open, it's about the 2002 U.S. Open. The one before that, The Punch, just came out in paperback. He said in an introduction that he promised his publisher he would write a golf book since nobody thought The Last Amatures or The Punch would be big sellers (They were wrong about Last Amatures).

Yeah, Bary Windham was great until he left WCW in '93. Then he seemed to get out of shape and stopped caring. Chi-Town Rumble is my favorite of the Flair- Steamboat matches. But I don't like getting into these "which 5 star match is the greatest" debates, because when you start splitting hairs to determine why one match is the best, you invariably come across as saying that the others suck.

How about a company with Bischoff, Heyman AND Jim Cornette running it, with one non-McMahon or McMahon supporter as an overseer for all three? That would last for all of two minutes before they killed each other.

They teamed when Hawk quit after Summerslam '92. It only lasted a few weeks before Animal left and I don't remember them ever being on television.
-
That is a great name, but I think that name was given to them by Japan or the internet. In '92 WCW all they were ever called was "Dr. Death" Steve Wiliams and Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy.

Good Show this week. Nothing was hit out of the park, but nothing was bad either. Second best show of the season, after Timberlake. I think "Oh Snap" is supposed to show how stupid it is too say it after a joke, not how "down with youth culture" Tina is.

They are still in the same complex or something right? Because I remember hearing somewhere that The Manhattan Center was now the Hammerstein. Could be different parts of the same building I guess.. Heck the address is even: Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center 311 West 34th Street Yeah, they're both in the same building. I think Hammerstein Ballroom is close to ground level, while the Manhatthan Center is on the 6th or 7th floor.

Very entertaining. I thought Kate Beckinsale stole the movie and was suprised that it took Hollywood as long as it did to start casting her in big movies. I thought the "60's hippies were traumitized by Bambi" speech was very funny. Here's hoping Whit Stillman makes another movie soon.

I didn't hate this week's show as much as everybody else, but it was mediocure at best. I liked Action News. Jock Talk, the Monologue, Update, and The Governess were okay. I was suprised there was no Jarrod's room skit, they usually do it whenever the host can pass for college age. I couldn't enjoy the Martha/Barbra skit because I kept thinking about how it woud be better with Cherri Oteri and Ana Gastyer. I know Ana still lived in NY last year, so I couldn't believe they didn't bring her back for a Martha Stewart skit. Why is everybody suprised at how good Tina looks? I figured we all realized she was hot. BTW, I love Tina's glasses. If she didn't wear them, not wearing them wouldn't be as sexy. I'm really excited about next week. I always look forward to Alec Baldwin/John Goodman shows.

Anyone catch the "CBS at 75" Special?
MDH257 replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in Television & Film
Nothing Noteworthy. Just the standard dragging out the stars and showing clips. There wasn't enough attention paid to any particuar show for you to notice if someone wasn't there. NBC's Special was a lot better. -
Average show. The good wasn't great, the bad wasn't horrible. I thought Kelly Ripa's Shampoo commercial was the best skit. I was dissapointed with the Regis skit. Though I thought Kelly's Jolie impression could've been better, the joke about her brother and the movie parody were funny. But I'm a sucker for a guest meeting up with the cast member doing an impression of them (Bob Dole and Norm, Calista and Rachel Dratch) and am kind of let down when it dosen't happen (I would have bet money last year that Al Gore was going to face off with Darrell Hammond and was suprised that it didn't happen). Darrell did seem to give up on the Bush impression halfway through the opening. Access Hollywood was tedious. Why does Jimmy keep reinerating that O'Brian's got a nasally voice? That should be obvious from the impression. That was a comment on the impression not the skit. My thoughts on Update are in the other thread. Everything else was just there.

The second Rod Roddy joke was okay, but the first one turned the crowd against Jimmy. I've never had as big a problem with breaking up during a skit as Bob does. But, last night was too much. It wasn't the laughing, it was that I knew exactly what was going to happen once the camera revealed Hoatio was playing Buffet. This was gonna be the same crap that always happens with Horatio and Jimmy on Update. They tell the same joke ten times (when it wasn't funny to begin with), and worse (to me), they waste a bunch of time gigging, so a skit is probaby getting cut because of it. I've become convinced that either Lorne or a group of the writers love it or else it woudn't be on the air so much. How many weeks do you think it will be before Horatio shows up dressed as Gene Shalitt and the same damn thing happens again?

In response to Boo's question and to the best of my memory: Norm was on Celebrity Milllionare and used up all his lifelines after about 4 questions (IIRC), but he tore threw the next 10 question and got up to the Million dollar question. I think the question was "Which of these famous golf courses was built with a giant bomb shelter underneath it ?" Norm casually says he dosen't know but he might as well say Answer D. Regis tells him that he shouldn't go for it if he isn't certain. This exchange repats itself about 5 times where Norm says he want to say D is the right answer and Regis tells him to walk away. Finally Norm non-chalantly says: "Sure I guess I'll walk away." Regis: "Are you certain." Norm: "Well you keep incisting on it." Regis: " Well that's it Norm's walking away and lets see what the correct answer was." And the correct answer turned out to be D. So Norm's charity would have gotton a million if Regis had let Norm answer like he wanted. So really, Regis screwed the charity out of half a million instead of a million. Though I'm Sure Bob has a better memory of this and can correct me or fill any holes in the story.

John Henson just did a comedy bit with The Rock on the GQ Men of the Year Awards.
