Rangers were terrible last night. Personally i'm looking forward to the 2 leg knockout format being re-introduced to the next stage of the Champions League. I think there will be more upsets and exitement than with the league format. Will there be seeded teams for this or will it be completely drawn at random?

I thought Huckerby had signed for you permanantly, I don't suppose you've got any more money to spend than anyone else though.

What movie(s) did you watch today?

Saw Withnail & I early hours of this morning on DVD. Seen it before but I rate it perhaps even higher now. A brilliant script and great performances, definately one of the most quotable films ever made. Watching it again reminded me and my mate of how Mike Myers got the Danny character into Waynes World 2.

Leicester 2 Blackburn 0 Awful first half with Blackburn bossing possession but not creating too much other than one good Yorke chance. Sinclair had a great game before he went off injured and Bent did really well. All i'm asking this season is for us to put up a decent fight against relegation and not go down with a whimper & a few more results like today would be great.

Yeah. I know. Who'da thunk it? Its not true anymore! NEWCASTLE 3 - Speed, Shearer (Pen), Ameobi PORTSMOUTH 0 Derby lost again. 3-1 at home to Crewe isn't clever. But a big HAHAHAHAHAHAHA in Anorak's and Leicester City's direction! How can you blow a 3 goal lead over Wolves!? .......I don't know but they managed it. I told my mum that we were 2-0 up too early and would be lucky to get a draw at 3.20pm yesterday, even a pessimist like me was taken back by such a disaster. I've got a ticket for Blackburn next week that I really don't want all that much but what the hell i'll still go down to scream and curse at them. I'm not getting exited when we take the lead though.

    Elliott Smith reported dead

That's terrible. I thought Smith was a songwriter whose best work was still probably ahead of him.

The 2003 Rugby World Cup thread

They already managed it once away from home this summer so obviously they have a chance. There's precious little to choose between England, Australia and New Zealand.

    Worst. Band. EVER. Thread

Bloodhound Gang don't count because they simply don't care about making 'good' music and really don't give a toss generally as they state in every interview they have ever given.

    Worst. Band. EVER. Thread

I swear blind I saw a 'Best Of Black Lace' album once at my local HMV so they can win this for the sheer bloody cheek of releasing that. I t probably came with 6 different remixes of 'agadoo' on it no doubt. If you like tacky 'themed' compilation albums then Allmusic.com reliably informs me 'agadoo' appears on two very interesting records entitled 'The Best Kids Party In The World...Ever! & Ultimate Cheeky Party Album. The Kid's album has great novelty stuff like Rolf Harris, Max Bygraves, The Wombles & The Chipmunks but spoils it with predictable crap like Spice Girls, Steps and Billie but i'm sure the youngun's love it. Including stuff like Right Said Fred and Benny Hill on the other hand is rather disturbing for different reasons. The 'Ultimate Cheeky' album is a lesson in what constitutes good cheesy pop and shit cheesy pop but any album featuring 'Kung Fu Fighting', Wake Me Up Before You Go Go AND 'Israelites' deserves anybody's time. Don't forgot to have the skip button ready for 'agadoo' though.

    New Ryan Adams CD

I hope he can get back to the form of 'Heartbreaker' (or 'Pneumonia', which was a solo effort more than a proper Whiskeytown album) on this new stuff as the last couple of records weren't quite as good by his standards. I'd prefer a mostly acoustic album in a Heartbreaker style myself as the full band numbers lack the power of the old Whiskeytown songs which had that ramshackle Replacements style energy and with a country bent. I hope he hasn't sacrificed quality for quantity with all these new records because at his best he's one of the best songwriters of his generation.

I completely forgot about the Nationwide matches this past weekend! I probably won't do the same thing next season with Leicester's current form though. I think everybody forgot how much pressure the Turks themselves where under on Saturday as they were very poor and England should have won with something to spare.

    Most beautiful music you know......

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water Bob Marley & The Wailers - No Women No Cry/One Love Tom Waits - Time (One of many) Ryan Adams - Oh My Sweet Carolina/Call Me On Your Way Back Home & several old Whiskeytown songs as well. Throwing Muses - Two Step Wilco - Misunderstood/Sunken Treasure and Being There in general. Lesser known stuff like Dash 7 from A.M and especially Please Tell My Brother from Golden Smog's second album are Jeff Tweedy at his quietest and most affecting. Uncle Tupelo - March 16-20 album Bonnie Prince Billy - I See A Darkness (So good Johnny Cash covered it) Eels - The second half of the Electro-Shock Blues album Matthew Sweet - Your Sweet Voice/Nothing Lasts Smog - Teenage Spaceship Flaming Lips - Feeling Yourself Disintegrate/Waitin' For A Superman. The Soft Bulletin was way too patchy IMO to be hailed a masterpiece but these two songs definately sounded unique and powerful. Wagon - Broken Lines Four Tet - My Angel Rocks Back And Forth (My dream type of Electronica. As distinctive as Aphex Twin or Boards Of Canada but with a warmer & more melodic side) REM - Automatic For The People & Out Of Time albums especially and countless other songs. The Guthries - Pure Calm/Careful Love. Anything Ruth Minnkin sings on really. Ditto for Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch. The Replacements - The triple whammy of Unsatisfied, Sixteen Blue and Answering Machine on Let It Be is enough to bring a lump to your throat. The Pogues - A Pair Of Brown Eyes/Fairytale Of New York/A Rainy Night In Soho/And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda The Handsome Family - Gravity/No One Fell Asleep Alone/Too Much Wine. I've never heard Kris Kristofferson's original but their cover of Sunday Morning Comind Down is another beautiful song. Richard Hawley - Late Night Final album. He's classified as a bit of a Radio 2/Mojo reader type artist but this album is superb & a real grower. His voice is his most obvious strength but he's got a real personality as a songwriter as this is one of those albums that stands as up as a connected vision rather than just a collection of songs. Red House Painters - Red House Painters . Katy Song/Grace Cathedral Park/Take Me Out etc.

    Asians go under the knife

Surely you've asked yourself the same question over 3,000 times already so why don't you tell me? Jihad?? Please tell me you meant that as just another word for crusade. :Ahem:.. Like it had fuck all to do with this thread anyway I don't like Islamic terrorists killing innocent people any more than you do. Hell, I even supported the war! Why didn't you just use the word 'crusade' again? That line between a word 'deliberately' taken out of context and a genuinely offensive and/or false slur can be a mighty fine one.

    Asians go under the knife

Will you ever stop taking everything so seriously and acquire a sense of humour? Your constant holy crusades are getting pretty damn old too. Maybe it's time for you to find another folder to plague. Go find another playground where you can take shrill offense on behalf of other people at every ridiculously obvious irony. Christ, and you have the gall to call other people "witless." You're its fucking epitome. Sense of humour faliure? I have a sense of humour, that's why I got offended reading his post you see. Holy crusades?? Witless xenophobia (50% of this shitty folder) is a cause worth fighting against. Maybe we could start one against those bigoted & half mad lesbian 'christians' too? :JOKE: Irony???? You obviously don't understand the meaning of the word (which is more than likely) or you're just spouting the usual lame defence/explanantion of an unfunny racist crack by one of your fellow worthless twats. Am I right? You know I am.

    Johnny Depp Dislikes U.S.

I really like metr0man's 'Prime Time' sig but who the heck is that on the far right? Its probably somebody dead obvious but as far as I can see its a discussion between Piper, Gorilla, Vince, Heenan and......Gary Busey??? On second thought is it Mr Perfect? Looks like his 92 era Flair associate pony tail. Still looks more like Gary Busey to me.

    English Football

Anybody see the goal of the season so far on monday? Leeds were pretty woeful but Leicester took full advantage quite impressively. Bent and Dickov were tireless up front, the midfield clicked and the defence looked very solid with Thatcher again looking a good signing for somebody I think we only pay some money for if we stay up. Liverpool & Man Utd next!

    Acoustic

Two modern era acoustic based albums that I like the most are Uncle Tupelo's March 16-20 1992 and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci's The Blue Tress EP. I think people like Jeff Tweedy and Ryan Adams have often wrote some of their best and most affecting songs backed only by that instrument. There's plenty of roots/alt country artists out there putting out great acoustic music.

    English Football

I'd have Alan Smith in myself, I think England are missing out big time as he's a great example of a versatile modern forward who can adapt his game to the needs of a particular match very effectively. Considering we have 3 players in the mold of Owen, Rooney and Vassel featuring the extra options Smith would bring to our attack seem even more wasted. If Ashley Cole has many more games like last Saturday then Bridge is going to be knocking on his door very loudly. I've been caught out of position less myself when i've played crap in local football, it looked amateur. Give it a couple of years (maybe) and Glenn Johnson will be our new right back (I hope).
