Heres one thing that has always bothered me about tag matches: Why is it that heels are allowed to tag behind the refs back, and all they have to do is say they tagged, and the ref ALWAYS takes their word for it? God forbid the faces tag behind the refs back, because a crowd of 8000 fans, and God himself could not convince the ref that the faces tagged, because the ref didnt SEE it, thus causing the "face in peril" to get beat down by the heel team while the ref is busy getting the face's partner to stay in his conrner until hes tagged. Then the worst part of all comes, the heels usually switch WHILE the ref is busy getting the face to stay in his corner, and they'll tell the ref they tagged which he accepts as fact. Seriosuly, what the fuck is wrong with this picture? It makes the refs look like total idiots.

The first time I ever saw or even heard of ECW was when I was just channel-surfing, and came across the preview show for Barely Legal. The moves I saw the wrestlers doing on that commercial blew me away, and although ECW wasnt shown on any channels in my area, I made it a point to always read up on them through the Apter-mags.

Blue Meanie Considering Legal Action Against JBL
haws bah gawd replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
From what I've been reading, Smothers is more than capable of thoroughly fucking up JBL, so I'm all for it. -
Given the way the NY crowd shit all over him at WMXX (and I'm sure other fans haven't forgotten about him), I think Brock would best be served with a "give me another chance" angle, like Sgt. Slaughter was given after his heel run in the early 90's. At first he will be slaughtered with "you sold out" chants, that is a given, but by giving him decisive wins over some of the upper mid-carders on Smackdown, I think the crowds would warm up to him again over time. Like Benoit, you can't help but respect the guy for his in-ring ability. That alone would get him over if he were booked correctly upon his return. If all goes well, I expect him back no later than Summerslam.

I hope Big Show is able to stick around and wrestle until the end of his contract, at the very least. I have no problems with the guy, and find him to be quite entertaining. He has a very impressive ring presense. I'm hoping he gets drafted to RAW as one of their final 2 picks this week. He hasn't been active on RAW since mid 2002(?) and I think he would make an impressive addition to the roster.

Blue Meanie Considering Legal Action Against JBL
haws bah gawd replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
I'll just say what's already been said time and again. JBL, who is a grown man, acts like nothing more than a 12 year old school yard bully. One day, JBL is going to fuck with the wrong person and its going to seriously cost him. Either that or one of the legit badasses of the WWE lockeroom will end up putting him in his place. William Regal, anyone? -
My very first houseshow was at the Civic Center of Augusta, GA in the late 1980's. I dont remember the card, but the main event was The Ultimate Warrior vs Mr. Perfect. I also went to several WCW shows throughout the late 90's. The fun part about houseshows is getting to see guys that arent quite ready for TV yet. I saw (yay) Chris Masters wrestle about 4 months before he ever debuted on TV, and he was using a simple spinebuster as a finisher. Also, Muhammed Massan wrestled, and got a win over Rhyno with the worst roll-up I've ever seen. Anyway you look at it, houseshows are a fun experience, and I recommend you give WWE another chance.

Hassan puts one arm under his opponents arm, and the other around the opponents head, locks his hands, and falls backwards. Kanyon held his opponents arm, by the wrist, across his (Kanyon's) chest, then took his free arm and put it around his opponents head, then jumped backwards. This move looked like death when it was sold properly. Think of a reverse Russian Legsweep, with a bit more jump instead of a backwards fall.

I think it all depends on how the crowd reacts to a move. Personally, I have always been a fan of the "it can be hit from practically any position at any time" finisher. One of the most sucessful wrestlers to pull this off was Diamond Dallas Page with the Diamond Cutter. Though sometimes, it ended a match rather anti-clamatically, it always popped the crowd when he would hit it out of nowhere. I've always wanted a wrestler to use the Flatliner in a "come out of nowhere" fashion. This is another move that uses that certain positioning, and could be made to be thought of as a death-move. I'm not talking about whatever Hassan is trying to pass off as a Flatliner now, but the move that Kanyon used to use. On the other hand, a finisher could be all about presentation. Sure it isn't necessarily a believable finisher but the People's Elbow is over something awful with WWE crowds, as well as the WORM. Sure it doesn't look like it's death itself, but the crowds always expect these moves to lead to a pinfall. Not to be left out, you have your death moves. Your F-5's, Tombstones, and Pedigrees. These are the moves that you hardly ever see anyone kick out of. I could be wrong but aside from Kane, I can't think of another wrestler I ever saw kick out after the Undertaker's Tombstone. Of course, what makes a great finisher is all in the eyes of the beholder, and could be endlessly debated for a long time.

How could I forget about sting. Isnt Marty Jannetty wrestling on the indies? Didnt the WWE resign him? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Last I heard, Jannetty had a few indy commitments that he wanted to fulfill before returning full time to WWE. Gotta admire him for sticking to his prior commitments.

Shit, I forgot about that little loophole. Actually, wasn't it Ric Flair who drafted the entire nWo to RAW with one pick? I don't know what good Daivari would be on his own, but from what I've seen, he isn't too bad in the ring. Maybe he could've moved on to a solo career of sorts?
-
How did SD get 2 drafts? I thought the brands didnt get 2 picks until the final week? Also if SD didn't actually get 2 draft picks, since when does the manager follow his/her client to the other show?

I would love to see Lance Storm return to the ring, but only if it was for a serious push and not to be a jobber like he was in his last run. He was very smooth in the ring at ONS, and I think he could bring a lot to WWE. Unless some TNA or some other promotion throws Goldberg a 10 mil a year contract and allows him to do 1 minute squashes everytime he wrestles, I would say hes as good as retired.

ECW World title(Taz edition) vs NWA Domed Globe
haws bah gawd replied to a topic in General Wrestling
While I can certainly understand the NWA's decision to continue to use the classic belt because of the history behind it, it's design is so outdated now, especially when compared to other recently-designed championship belts used now (WWE Undisputed World, Smackdown Tag, even the X title). The center plate is about 8-9 inches high, and about a foot or so wide. Truth me told, it looks like a license plate on a strap as far as the shape goes. However, it looks extremely classy and I though the overall design of ECW's television title was FAR superior to that of their World title. The TV belt just looked like more of a world title. When it comes down to it though, The NWA title does hold the prestige and history, though the design is outdated. It looks like a classy dignified championship belt, while the ECW title just looked like a design to appeal to the "extreme" fad at the time, with the use of different colors and the font used on the center plate. I'll go with the NWA World. -
OAO Raw Thread (6-20-05): Angle v. Some Big Guy
haws bah gawd replied to AndrewTS's topic in The WWE Folder
My heart skipped about 5 beats when Matt Hardy's theme hit. I thought, for once WWE pulled one on us. I officially give WWE, 2 FUCK YOU'S for the night. Snitzky's poem was quite.....unusual. And Kane once again proves he cant do a Tombstone worth a damn. -
OAO Raw Thread (6-20-05): Angle v. Some Big Guy
haws bah gawd replied to AndrewTS's topic in The WWE Folder
All the writers WWE has working for them, and they cant give Viscera's finisher a better name than "The Viscerea Driver"? Also, my shit dial up connection was a little slow loading-up this thread, so I have to say this in response to the Shelton Benjamin situation: Fuck you WWE! This man held the IC belt, was a fighting champion, and was restoring prestige to the title for nearly the past 9 months and you crap it all away on a 10 minute match with absolutely no build up? Pull you head out of your ass! You guys could've at least saved it for the PPV. -
One has to wonder if this will lead to another Jarrett ego-fuck like their title match debacle from the spring of '03? Who could forget Jarrett taking 3 Raven Effect's, as well as the finisher of nearly every major heel on the roster, and still kicking out? Here's hoping Dixie Carter continues to hold her ground against Jarrett, and veto him getting the belt back. TNA desperately needs to get some other heels and fresh matches into the title picture and stop letting daddy's boy run with the belt all the time.
-
I'm just wondering why they decided to take the title off AJ so soon. Didn't he just win it at the last PPV? I guess the long-standing tradition of AJ being TNA's token transitional champion will continue. I am NOT complaining about Raven getting the title though. It's long overdue, and I'm glad Raven is finally getting the respect he deserves. Heres to a long title reign!
-
Its about fucking time Raven got a world title, and the respect he deserves. Now hopefully TNA can get fans to forget the squashes that he had to endure from Dustin Rhodes earlier this year.

I grew up on WWF, starting in the late 80's, and even as a child, I thought their World Title looked really small around the waist of Hulk Hogan. Then a friend of mine told me about NWA/WCW (which I hadn't heard of up to that point), so I tuned into a Saturday Night episode, and saw Ric Flair carrying around this gigantic Gold Belt, and I said to myself, THAT is a Championship Belt. So I am more biased towards the Big Gold. As a previous poster said, this is a belt that just screams out that its a World Championship, and important. I like the Winged Eagle belt as well, but it looks like more of a United States Title than something that represents the pinnacle of achievment for a company. CarnivalizComing said it right though. When all is said and done, WWE's Attitude Era World Title is the most beautiful and well-designed title ever created. The belt was just as large as WCW's Gold, and took the original Winged Eagle design and made it into something that IMO looked like a World Championship.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WWE, include some of his incoherent WCW rants as easter eggs. You have to wonder if that WM12 match will be featured, or if WWE has completely locked it away somewhere?
-
That's the interesting note: The best match on the card was the match that didn't involve anyone under any WWE contract. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yea, how ironic. Afterall, you have 2 guys who havent been brainwashed to the punch-kick-chinlock routine. Sure Awesome got a small injury to his leg from the match, but thats the price these guys pay to entertain us. I have nothing but respect for both Awesome and Tanaka after this match (I was already a huge Awesome fan before this). I hope we get to see them go at it one more time, balls out, just how it should be done.

Somewhat Off Topic: Out of nothing more than the sheer curiosity of seeing a 3-D movie, I went to see this movie this past weekend. This film is beyond horrible. Everything every character says is a pun of some sort (Lavagirl makes lava and heat jokes, Sharkboy makes water and fish jokes, etc.). I honestly don't see how even a child could find enjoyment in this film. Anyways, back on topic. Unfortunately, unless Sharkboy (the wrestler) has some good connections with a powerful attourney, I dont know where he's going to find someone to fight Disney's army of lawyers. Good luck to him though. Wrestler Sharkboy >>>>>> Movie Shark Boy

My favorite part was the Mike Awesome/Masato Tanaka match. The Awesome Bomb over the top, through the table, wouldve sufficed as a match finish, then Awesome just jumped over the ropes and dived onto Tanaka, and that was all I needed to see. MIKE AWESOME IS THE FUCKING MAN!!!!!

Does this book fit into the movie mythos anywhere, or is it more of a standalone story?
