    WWE Legends of WrestleMania

I wonder who we'll have as commentators. When we look at announcers from the 80's early 90's, there aren't many options availlable. What would rock if Vince would come back doing commentary only for this game, throw a huge amount of money at Jesse Ventura to reform the pairing and have him ridicule McMahon again. The obvious choice would be Ross and Lawler, since they're now splitted they're eligible to be a legendary combo.

    E3 2008

Just going around a few minutes on the GameFaqs boards made me realize how stupid fanboys are. Seriously, why would anyone act that stupid only to to defend a fucking console ? Just play what you want and let others do the same.

Nothing added this week, I couldn't even access to VOD at all yesterday.

    Chrono Trigger DS

Thank you for the list Andrew. I've decided to go with the 2 Brain Ages, New Super Mario Bros and picked up Metroid Zero Mission and Zelda Minish Cap for cheap on eBay. The original Metroid is one of the great games of my childhood, a remake with Super Metroid gameplay....can't really ask for more. I've also read nothing but good things on Lunar Knights and The World Ends With You. Still, for me it's all about the Dragon Warrior games.

    Chrono Trigger DS

I'm thinking of buying a DS. All the old-school RPGs seem to be developped on it like Dragon Warrior IV-VI and IX and the old Final Fantasies. I'm also curious about New Super Mario Bros, the Phoenix Wright series and the Brain Age games. Since I haven't owned a portable since the old black-and-yellow Gameboy, I've skipped everything on the GBA like the Castlevanias and Metroid games. Any essentials I'm missing ?

The "Vent about not having Program X on 24/7" Thread

The only thing missing this morning was Nitro, which had me worried because I was sure it was the AA retirement speech (which now I think is on the next Nitro, not the current one). but everything seems to be there. I suppose there's no PYBO or Backlash in week one. I watched the preview show just for the hell of it and I love how Korpela assures us that each and every single War Games will be shown this month. Showing 1997 would be nice since it's not often they show the matches that fits the MNW timeframe but that will likely be skipped because of Benoit's involvement.

King of the Ring: The Early Years

Finally had the chance to watch KOTR 1994 over the weekend. I think the 1993 is overall better than 1994. You can't do a better 5 minutes match than Owen/Kid but it's still way too short. Owen Hart as the heel little brother is one of my favorite character of all time, so it was nice to see the coronation speech once again. Of course, Art Donovan is completely awful as a color commentator. He's not the worst of all time but he's at the bottom of the barrel. Why would he be calling the entire show instead of just a match when he clearly had no knowledge of wrestling ? - Doesn't know any of the wrestlers. Picks Razor as the winner only to predict his defeat in the finals. - "How much does this fellow weighs ?" ....that would be okay for Yokozuna, not for Owen Hart. - "How do you call that ?" "A chinlock." - The best was when Neidhart just did his big turn, Macho and Gorilla were selling the drama and Donovan said "I just have one thing to say....did you guys acted like that when you were wrestling ?"' They totally ignored him to the point the cameras didn't even bother to show him on screen.

    Monday Night Wars

I marked out for the Tongan Death Grip on Wrath for his first loss since it came out of nowhere. I could not stand Meng during the MNW but I kinda like him on 24/7. He's still an average mid-carder but he has an ace up his sleeve and, if he can nail it, the match is over. Put it on Hogan !

all to destroy a glorified mid-card wrestler. I remember a few months back Tully and J.J doing promos about having a master plan to get to Dusty Rhodes by taking down his entourage like Magnum and Wahoo. For their strategy to work, it was imperative that Boogie Woogie would be the first one to go down. It was forgotten shortly after but I never understood how Valiant would be so important that he must be the first one to be eliminated. I don't understand why the audience in the studio would cheer Valiant. He acts like a fun guy during his entrance but he totally wrestles like a heel. Most if not all of his matches begins by him racking his opponent's eyes, he racks the back, throw the opponent on the outside and doesn't give him a chance at all during the match. That guy is Waylon Mercy before Waylon Mercy existed. Another point I don't understand is the appeal of Dusty Rhodes. I know the guy is a legend in the industry but all I see of him on the NWA shows is doing promos and getting his ass kicked by the Horsemen. Despite of that, people consider him the big savior and he's still getting all the title shots at the big events. (spoilers, but everyone who knows their history already know this) . The heels on the show are so dominant over the faces, it's hard to take all of them seriously. The only main faces who didn't get beat up decisively by heels yet are the Road Warriors and Magnum T.A. The segments with the RnR Express, Ron Garvin and Dusty are good, but most of the time, they're getting beat up or outsmarted by the Horsemen or the Midnight Express instead of having the upper hand. I guess to each Federation its own style. NWA had stronger main-events over the Hogan domination but the WWF had a better mid-card with the IC and tag division.

King of the Ring: The Early Years

1993 was a good show, you have a really solid tournament with a classic in it. The finals with Bam Bam was a lot better than what I remember, good match with Bam Bam being an absolute brute. The non-tournament matches were ok. It's still weird to me to see Hulk in 1993. His act really doen't fit in that time frame. Bonus points for Jimmy Hart as his promo was basically the first verse of Hogan's WCW theme.

The 2008-2009 NHL Video Games Thread

I started a franchise in NHL 2K5 back three years ago and decided to (finally) finish the regular season when I was caught in playoffs fever. However, since the Xbox version of 2K5 always freeze either during the match or between games when you're simulating all the other teams games, I was blocked after Game 3 of my series vs the Devils. I've put the game back on the shelf again since it always seems to freeze at an exact spot and I don't want to go back replay the end of my season. If the game turns out to be good, I might buy NHL 09 along with either a 360 or a PS3 but I'm not 100% sure about it. Do the new hockey games have the same problems as other games always had like 200 SOG and 10 goals per game, the goalies block pretty much everthing but miss way too easy shots (or put the puck in their own net) and the CPU cheats like a bastard when you're leading by 3 or more goals ?

This was one hell of a show : - How awesome is Cornette ? One of the all-time greats on the mic and he puts nuclear heat on the Midnight Express. I haven't seen much of the Condrey/Eaton version in the past so I don't know all the angles they did with them. I just love the intros Cornette does for them every week at the end of his promos like "....and now I present to you the tag-team that puts more fear in the hearts of men than Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, Loverboy Dennis and Beautiful Bobby : The Midnight Express !". That's a shame there's no more managers nowadays. - Has AA ever used the spinebuster in previous shows ? - Who knew that the second "J" in J.J Dillon stood for Julius ?

Anybody here got any problems with shows stopping at a precise moment ? Problems I have so far : - Judgment Day Pt 2 stops in the Undertaker/Booker pre-match video. No Guerrero/JBL match. - Guerrero vs Lesnar shortie stops at 2/3 of the match - Raw stops when they play the US Anthem.

I'd rather wait a day or two and getting all the shows instead of the less-than-half-assed updates we've had for the last two weeks. March was perfect and April was almost complete. Thus far, May is horrible as far as the maintenance was handled.

    Slamboree 2000

WCW 2000 is always fun to watch just to see a complete trainwreck and how to kill a company. Seeing stuff like Hugh G Rection, Lex Luger getting a push as the Total Package (Totally Buff explodes!), Hogan in the FUNB phase and the Jeff Jarrett God Push....good times. I don't think the Vampiro vs Sting is the human torch match however.

Off-topic, but the DVD boards have some weird ad banners. On second thought, it is a wrestling board after all.

I'm missing a ton of stuff. The only new shows are Raw, NWA, Clash Part 2 and the Shorties. With the VOD service working only half the time and my internet connection dying for the better part of the last week, I guess I should consider that a full update.

Have you ever seen more of a circus of freaks than Paul Jones' stable ? - The manager now looks like Hitler and dresses and full army gear. - The guy who recently turned can't speak without yelling at the top of his lungs and dresses like Mr. Peanut - We have a goose-stepping German wearing a monocle - We have two mutes : one who sticks his tongue out and the other looks more lobotomized than Nicholson in Cuckoo's nest. Thank God we have the Horsemen, Cornette and Magnum to provide some common sense.

WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion

Regarding the Hall of Fame show, the preview show said something like "You will see the complete, unedited ceremony from this year's Wrestlemania". Since they tape so much stuff in advance, with shows still ending with © 2007, it could explain why "This year's Wrestlemania" was actually WM23.

The only thing that showed up was Royal Rumble. No ECW, Bad Blood or Roundtable. I think the discussion's theme for this month was bad gimmicks and angles, was the show any good ?

    Monday Night Wars

That Nitro was very good, I would have bought Bash at the Beach 10 years ago. -As mentionned, the DDP-Savage angle was great and completely caught me by surprise. -I didn't remember that Stevie Richards made the jump to WCW. Did it last long ? -Anybody picked up the mistake by Mean Gene during the Harlem Heat interview ? "Virgil uh-Vincent !" -Even though we would see it too many times, I still get a kick out of the fans pelting the ring with crap during the nWo main-event segment.

    24/7 Shorties

At first look, save for the Jake Roberts/Randy Savage segment, there wasn't much to the shorties for this month. However, the Smokey Valley segment was truly something to behold. Balls Mahoney having his cat squashed by a top-rope BUTT-stomp, the commenter saying "Boots the Cat is no longer a member of this world" while seeing the Red Power Ranger trying to confort Boo and Cactus Jack of all people being the voice of reason, all of this followed by a funeral for the cat ? Cornette is one the the greatest managers ever, but did he really booked this ?

    Monday Night Wars

It seems the people are split on the Undertaker angle. As far as soap opera angles go, I think the angle was great. It was the first time they tried to humanize the Undertaker and they did it a whole lot better than the stupid "Mark just takes his character way over the line" stuff from 1999. Paul Bearer had great delivery and Undertaker's story actually made sense in the sense that he did a "death" character in order to cope with his guilt. Of course, considering all the developpements that later came ( Taker intentionaly burned the house, Kane was never burned and couldn't drive a stickshift, etc...), it doesn't make sense but I think the story was good for that timeframe. In hindsight, it may just be another stupid soap opera angle but, just like the Angle-HHH-Stephaie triangle, it's an enjoyable one, which is a rarity. I didn't remember that Jim Cornette came back to get revenge on Owen and Bulldog, much less with the Headhunters. This comeback surely didn't last long. Was it before of after Cornette's rants on the state of wrestling ? I also remember seeing on Superstars a huge fat guy named "The Tank" who was in the Truth Commission for a short time, was it one of the Headhunters ?

2008 Stanley Cup playoffs - first round

I don't venture in the sports section at all but I'm giving it a shot since I was in attendance yesterday for the Canadiens/Bruins game. If you thought it was loud on TV, it doesn't compare to being there live. The atmosphere was just crazy, I don't think I ever heard a reaction like the first five minutes of the game. That being said, I'll agree that there's way too much "playoff fever" in Montreal right now. After the game, many fans went crazy celebrating on the streets and acting like it was 1993 all over again. There is just one game played in the first round, no need to riot on Ste Catherine's yet. Over course, the media is all over this but that's pretty much always like this in Montreal. When the Habs are on a winning run, they can do no wrong and they should just bring the Cup here since it's already won. However, when they're in a streak of bad games, you should get rid of half of the team. Just look at all the Kovalev love, that is just ridiculous. Yes, he has a good season and helped the team tremendously this year. But when all the sports shows, who bitched all season long last year that he was overpaid and couldn't wait to get rid of him, are comparing him to fucking Guy Lafleur, there are some serious logic gaps somewhere. Still, a crazy crowd is way better than a crowd who just sit on their hands the whole match. I think when they'll go to Boston, it will be another ballgame and the Bruins could cause quite a surprise on their home ice....but I'm still predicting Montreal wins the series 4-2.
