WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - February 2008

Seeing the Undertaker/Paul Bearer segment on Raw made me smile, I knew the whole segment by heart (in fact, there was a time where saying "I haaaate yooouuuu......with ALL that I am!" in a shaky voice was an recurring joke between friends) Seeing Taker kneeling back to Bearer nearly broke my heart as a kid......but dammit he had no choice! Bearer had him by the balls. Of course, this was a legit situation at the time since Bearer wasn't wearing his makeup, so you know this was 100% real. Man, I miss being a true mark. -

I wonder why there is no NWA version of House Shows. I mean, the footage at the opening of WCW Saturday Night must come from somewhere right ? Just like the past NWA show with clips of the 60-minutes Flair/Garvin match for exemple, there is surely a tape of the full card in their library. It must be because of Saturday Night's format of having mainly squashes that makes all the stars bigger than they actually are (Hell, I'm actually interested in test of strength challenge between Ron Bass and the Barbarian) but it would be nice to see the blow-off or the big devellopements of the feuds. I like the NWA shows but a few bigger cards here and there wouldn't hurt. If I would be a new viewer without any knowledge of wrestling, I'd be wondering why in the hell Dusty Rhodes is always the big hero of the show when he's doing nothing but interviews....even Flair wrestles once in a while. -
Sadly, I think it will be the first HoF since 2004 without Heenan inducting someone. Isn't he still in convalescence of his jaw surgery? I think Flair, Maivia/Johnson and Solie are lock-ons for this year. The timing would be there for inducting the Von Erichs but it would be better in Dallas, if there ever would be a WM in that city someday. They didn't inducted the Road Warriors in 2005, even if they had a DVD release that year and a Wrestlemania in Chicago. Someone suggested Chris Benoit. I think Randy Savage has more chances being inducted, expelled and inducted again three or four times than Benoit making it to the HoF. Could anybody imagine an arena giving him a standing ovation, knowing that he killed his wife and child? Maybe some fans, but the wrestlers and staff employees?

That suicide dive in the Luchadores match on Nitro was absolutely sick. If it was an adult instead of a kid in the seat where Super Calo did his dive, there would have been serious damage. Hogan always looked weird with the beard but not the mustache, it looks painted-on. -

I'm disappointed in the three Wrestlemanias they'll show. 2 (uh-oh) and 9 are bad and 18 is average at best. The only thing they could have done worse is adding 15 instead of 18 for completing the trifecta of suck. I think the Raw from 2002 is the only time Austin and Hogan have been in the ring together, so there a bit of historical footage. The Savage wedding will be in the next update I guess....no huge pink hat with feathers this week. -
Some Rumble predictions : - Matt Hardy makes his return in the MVP/Flair match or in the Rumble, if MVP is in it. - Orton wins. - HHH and Taker recreates last year's finish with the mini-match, with Taker winning again so we can have Take Two of the long reign he was supposed to get last year. Edge/Taker won't go last at Wrestlemania however, that spot will be for the Raw match. Still, does anyone considers Hogan vs Sid to be the main-event of Wrestlemania VIII over Flair/Savage ? - I think Big Show will be the only surprise entrant this year. Since this is MSG, a fairly knowledgable crowd that knows their history unlike the usual WWE crowd, that would be a great opportunity to bring back and old timer like they used to do in the past.

During King's interview with the father and son, he said the son's name was Eugene. Obviously these two were "actors" but there was talk of how Eugene's gimmick was inspired by a real life handicapped, I just found weird that they would name him Eugene. Was there any timeframe mentionned in the Eugene story ? Regal was just awesome on Nitro : Kills Iaukea with a reverse suplex, slaps him in the face while putting on the STF and, after Prince tapped, spits on his back. Why was Regal never seriously pushed outside of his original commissionner run? He had an occasion in 2004 after his great promo on HHH leading up to Summerslam but it never got anywhere. Is there a law against Regal getting over ? -
Meh. Doesn't do much for me since I felt he was too overpushed way too fast. I liked his run with Finlay and his match against Cena that's pretty much it. Look now for two face-blocking stickers on the Wrestlemania DVD, McMahon/Umaga against mystery opponents.

I watched Gremlins II for the first time in forever last weekend. The fire alarm is now my favorite movie quote ever: Enact the age-old drama of self-preservation. Also, I'm 100% sure that every TV network must have their own "End of the World tape", surely dating back to the Cold War.

It's always interesting to see Young Heel Hogan at the beginning of the 80's because he wrestles the same big brute style as he did in Rocky III. Just look at the beginning of the match with Tito Santana : jumps behind his back at the bell, use the same moveset as he did on Stallone and, when Tito was down, he looked at the crowd and yelled "There's your champ right here !". Seriously, I almost expected to see Paulie break a wooden chair on his back which he wouldn't have sold. Much more interesting than the Hulk-up, finger-pointing, three punches, big boot, legdrop routine. -

Didn't received anything on time Wednesday but some shows appeared today. It always seems to happen at least one week a month. I didn't got the NWA show, just part 1&2 of the Ladder match. Boo. -

It's not quite on the level of Kane's theme played on the cello but I liked the remix of the Sad Goldust music on Raw. I hope next motnh we'll get the Kane/Lita wedding as it was so much better than Edge/Lita's. How can you beat Kane in a white tux, his music played on the cello, the music changing according to Kane's mood and a wall of fire ? -
I'm not that big of an online gamer. There was a time where I played SOCOM II with friends but that's pretty much about it, most of the people online are morons anyway. I'm trying to give it another shot since I got CoD 4 for PC during the Holidays and everyone is raving about how good the online mode is. It may have been 2 or 3 years since I've last played online but it's still the same deal : Is there such a thing as a server where people just play instead of acting all "omfg j00 r sooooooo gay stfu n00b" ? Seriously, it's like everyone out there is a stupid kid passing himself as an internet bully trying to get "respect". I once made the terrible, horrible mistake of asking if this was a kid's server with everyone calling each other gay, retard and stuff and there actually was a vote ban against me because of it. So are all online players in junior highschool or are there actually intelligent, respectful people out there ?

This kind of thread is too creepy nowadays....but I'll play anyway. - First of all, Jake Roberts has immunity for life as he will probably die peacefully in his sleep in his eighties. Mae Young wants to have a match when she's a hundred years old and I think she might be able to do it. Old age : I'll go with Baron Von Rashke, Antonio Inoki or Gene Kiniski. Drug related : Lex Luger, Chyna or Test. Out-of-Nowhere : I'd say the Hulkster commits suicide, but the divorce is probably a work anyway. I'll go with Bart Gunn, Vince Russo, Kurt Angle or the pedophile booker who ran Ring Of Honor gets murdered.

You know it. Finally watched the show this week. Funny how they absolutely have to change Goldberg's theme but have left out several Benoit references and even a WWF scratch logo on screen. And Venkman, since we both have Cogeco, have you had any problems with the MNW or the Troops show ? Both freeze at the 7 minute mark and loop back to the "Christmas moment" at the beginning of the show. -

Does Starcade '98 apply to the weird rule that Goldberg's WCW Theme must be overdubbed by his WWE's theme ? -

Oh man, the Youtube Demian Demento promos are weird stuff. "What do you feel when you reach down into your pants huh ? You know what I feel when I reach down into my pants ? Two large testicles. Oversized testicles. 'Cause I got balls. I'm a legitimate tough guy, I don't pull punches. When I throw a punch, I do it with reckless abandon....but you know what ? I know what you feel when you reach down into your pants. I suspect it's a prepubescent vagina. Yeah Yeah I said it and I ain't gonna take it back !" No way those are legit. It's just too goofy that Damian Demento, of all wrestlers, would be the one to go to war against the internet marks. The sad part of it is all the comments that are posted. -
That trailer looked great. I know part III is supposed to have Two-Face at the lead villain but hopefully Joker will have a part in it as well. End part II with a cliffhanger, like Rachel dying at Joker's hands or something like that. Oh, and that poster of Joker painting a smile from the blood on his knife, awesome.

The Raw DVD set looks awesome, even if there is some major moments and matches being left out (only one thing from their best year ?! ). There is plenty of material for 3 more DVDs, but I don't think WWE do any releases more than 3 discs, not considering the Rumble and WM anthologies.

WWE General Discussion - December 2007

Weird to see Chris Benoit's name in the greatest matches list after months of silence, along with Kurt Angle no less. Their match is only 200 votes behind Cena vs Michaels, I wonder if they haven't rigged the poll ( I know, I know...) and Angle vs Benoit wins if they will show footage of it on Monday. I voted for Owen vs Bulldog. #3 on the list is the Rock/Hogan faceoff, #2 looks like the beer bath, I have no idea what #1 is. Could be the WCW buyout since it wasnt mentionned yet and I can't imagine this list without the end of the Monday Night Wars. 5 years ago, during the Raw X show, they showed Raw is Owen as number 2 or 3 and everyone criticized them for good reason. I don't see the show, or the Guerrero tribute for that matter, being number 1. -
I didn't went into the Smackdown vs Raw thread to see if it was already mentionned but, according to EGM, rumor has THQ remaking No Mercy for the Wii virtual console, complete with an updated roster. Dip Dip Dee-Dee-Dee, Dip Dip Dee-Dee-Doh........Socko.

Jericho's debut, woohoo ! However, we'll surely get some laughs with some debuts, i.e. the plaid-wearing Hardys (unless they show them in their jobber days), Austin as the Ringmaster, Batista as D-Von's deacon. Was Rumble '88 the one won by Jim Duggan which wasn't showed on PPV ? -

I got the description wrong for the Flair-Steamboat match, it says it's a TNT Christmas special with doing "Scrooge" with Piper. Minor mistake, just like in past weeks, everything was from 1985 and lasted 93 min. After watching Nitro and the Mortal Kombat feud with Glacier/Wrath/Mortis/Paul Heym James Vanderburg, how stupid this stuff was ? The worst thing is I'm sort of a Glacier mark since he had that killer superkick finisher in WCW/nWo World Tour (not as nasty as Puchteca top-rope DDT but still...) Armageddon was a whole pile of nothing. The best thing was the mixed tag match and it was the kind of match where the story took place over the action. All you could hear over the Molly/Victoria match was how Molly was sexually frustrated and had irregularity problems. -
Not that a review from a website or a magazine ever changed my opinion on trying a certain game or not, but that's sucks for the guy. If a company is bitching about a negative review, they have no one to blame but themselves. Although I didn't looked to see what the general consensus was for Kane & Lynch, if the game is bad, Eidos made it bad not the reviewer. Even if that game was the greatest thing ever and that guy was the only one who gave it a negative score, no game company has the right to make him lose his job.

House show promo guy. He also hosts the free 24/7 preview for people too cheap to actually purchase the service. "In case you're not up to speed on what WWE 24/7 is, let me fill you in. WWE 24/7 is *insert every name of the promotion they have* right at your very fingertips" "You can see the up-going battle between WWE and WCW for sports-entertainment supremacy in the Monday Night War" ....why the hell do I even watch this crap the first day of every month ?
