Is there a reason no one has pointed out the obvious? The show starts at 8:00pm EST, not 9:00pm The difference between Eastern Time and Pacific Time is 3 hours, not four Edmonton is on Mountain Time, not Pacific.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2: Me (Lyger) & my best buddy Ryan (Sasuke) vs CPU Inoki and Baba. We managed to win at 29:58 of a 30:00 time limit. I don't think we ever played that game again (as a team at least) after that. We both knew we could never top it.

If there's ever a person to determine when a game is broken, you would figure it would be the people that have taken the time and energy to learn a particular game inside and out. There's a big difference between what's hard to swallow but acceptable (MvC2 Infinites & AHVBx3) rather than a game that is ubsurdly broken (like SvC). I was even acknowledged by the fine developers of SvC that the game wasn't properly tested before release. They're aware of the broken nature of the game and made changes in the home release to overcome the issues. Strong players will never complain about character imbalances. They'll go one of two routes. They'll either adopt the stronger characters and work to improve on them or they'll take a character that isn't considered top tier and work on that character to the point where despite the game not having true balance, the players skill determines how well they do. For someone like me, I fall into both categories. I couldn't find using mid tier teams in MvC2 so I adopted Sentinel/Storm/Commando to be competitive. On the other hand, my main game is CvS2 but I use Guile/Kim/Vega and never bothered to learn RC. It puts me at a disadvantage in that Guile is only mid tier without RC, Kim is considered low tier and Vega is considered top tier. I could use Cammy/Blanka/Sagat like so many others. It's just a matter of choice. Infinites all take skill to pull off and that's why they're acceptable. Even within the realm of the Infinite, the players decide whether or not they think it's skill or not. You can take the Magneto Infinite which takes a lot of work to learn or you can take the Geese Infinite in SvC which is literally a 5 - 10 minute learning curve before you have it down cold and see why one is adopted as acceptable and the other just shows they didn't work the kinks of the character as well as they should have. If I get hit with a Magneto Infinite, I blame myself for being in that position to begin with. I know how it starts and it's my own poor play that got me there.

I found the compalint about Tekken interesting. If anything, that is one of the games with the least complex basic system. Everything works in a particular chain and the worst rotation is a half circle with two buttons. I'll grant you that Ten Strings (did Tekken 1 have Ten Strings?) and Chain Throws take a fair bit of time to learn and memorize (or lord the time it took me to get Eddie Gordo's Ten String down) but the basic engine is simple. SF is my baby and because of that fact I can tell you that some people do have issues with the special movies. To this day, a guy like myself who plays this game on a daily basis still can't do a Standing 360. From what I understand, there are people that have issues with Dragon Punch rotations as well (I've got a good story about a bleeding left thumb, a SNES controller and Street Fighter II: World Warrior) but again, if you put in the time, you can pull it off consistently. Mortal Kombat is the easiest fighting game engine you'll find short of a side scrolling beat em up so there's no solace for you on that one. The hardest thing I've ever had to pull out in that game are the 100% health combos in UMK3 and even those weren't THAT tough given time and practice. The basic combo system is a simple PP - KK - P - K system.

Are you trying to bait people out?

And I stick by that point. It's a matter of whether you're willing to play it. We'll take SvC because the game is basically considered broken (at least the arcade version). The game was poorly designed, that's all there is to it. There are so many glitches and so many issues that it makes it impossible to play on a high level competitively. As such, the community elected to stop playing it on a large scale. So you see, all the glitches and issues are there and are exploited by those that elect to still play it, regardless of how "cheap" or whatever term you want to apply to this situation. It's in the game, it's up for grabs. Your definition would literally cripple any MvC2 player. It is your very interpretation of "cheap" that has elevated the game of MvC2 to where it is. Where do you think this game would be without Magneto Infinite, Iron Man Infinite, Cable's AHVB, Sentinel's Fast Fly/Unfly, etc... The players found these glitches and turned them around such that it forced everyone else to adopt them and work with and/or around them. Look at AHVBx3. That move can literally kill a character without them ever making a move (assuming you're smart enough to guard break upon entry and remember to make sure the last AHVB is timed right for the max 130 hits). While it's hard to swallow, the community takes this fact in stride and realizes that you're in trouble in a situation like this. Some people think of interesting ways around it (take the shot on entry and hope the guys timing is off to reblock is one way in this particular example). The bottom line is that good players fine ways to suck it up, learn and adapt. Again, difficulty isn't a factor to good players. The fact you have to work hard and improve your execution to the point where you have to remember key sequences of buttons at key intervals in a throw chain doesn't make a difference to me or anyone else that wants to be as good as they can be in the game. Talk to any player who's ever bothered to learn an infinite, or a complex assisted reset, or all the players on Tekken Zaibatsu who honed their craft to the point where they could care less about a chain throw because they'll always break out on the first link. They put in the time to learn. They reap the benefits. They didn't complain about the complexity of it, they just dealt with it. That's what good players do. that was phrased badly. I didn't mean it as a personal attack when I used the terms "crying and complaining." It was meant as a description for the hundreds if not thousands of players who aren't willing to take the extra step and learn rather than complain about how unfair something is. Take it, adapt, practice, execute.
-
By that logic, there are no inherently flawed gameplay systems, correct? Every game has inherent flaws. It's up to the players to determine whether those flaws are such that they can be exploited without ruining the game (see Roll Cancel or AHVB for examples) or such that you no longer wish to play because it's so broken (see bosses in SvC for a prime example). Cheap is a buzzword for something that players can't figure out how to get passed. Your refraining from throws only makes you that much less of a player. Read that article I linked to. I assume you're referring to the chain throw sequence for King in the Tekken series. First of all, those chains take a fair bit of time to memorize and execute. Second of all, each link in the chain can be broken. As for how to acquire the info, if a player is willing to take a simple baby step rather than complain about the fact they can't escape the throw then they can simply go to Gamefaqs. This isn't rocket science. The information is at the finger tips of anyone who's willing to actually do something instead of cry and complain about their lack of being able to win.

Jer; that's a very good topic but not quite what I was looking for. Thoth pointed everyone in the right direction, they may not have found the right article though. If anyone is interested, please Take a Look Here and give this article a read. It's very good work and echoes my sentiments exactly.

I'll never advocate someone is a loser for sucking at a game. I do have problems with: A) People complaining about a facet of the game that they can't wrap their brain around hard enough to circumvent. If it's in the game, then it's there to exploit. The only time I have ever seen a problem with a game is when it locks the game up (see Kim Handcuffs in CvS2 or Gambit Lock in MvC2). Just because a person can't deal with the fact that SC2 has an eight way direction (which isn't that hard to deal with if you use your head for a minute) doesn't mean the game is poor or the players isn't good. It's up to the player to deal with the many facets of the game, not bitch and moan about it. B) People who make statements like the aforementioned no overpowering characters in 3S when it's painfully obvious that there's not only a clearly defined tiering system but even the characters within the top tier of the game like Chun, Yun, Ken and & Makoto have advantages over each other (such as pointed out by Thoth with Chun). When you make a statement like that, those readers who may not have such a strong grasp of the game are going to be misguided. If you don't know what you're talking about, then at least ask someone first or make the statement such that it's leaves more and/or better room for interpretation. Stuff like this tends to bug me. "Everybody" first of all is a massively broad term. I'd venture you guess you couldn't "hold your own" against some of the best players in any state or even province up here in Canada. I'm very good at the games I play, ranking highly in just about every tournament I enter, but I'd never say I could hold my own against everybody else, that's insanity. Like you, video games (or specifically fighting games) are a hobby. Because I spend more time practicing and entering tournaments doesn't mean it's my life though. Some devote massive amounts of time to their games and others do not. One only hopes they have balance.

Been there, tried that. The MAME link doesn't work and I don't use Kawaks. Thanks for trying though, I do appreciate it.

Wow, I think I'd better dust off my N64 and play this game again because I sure as hell don't remember any of these secret characters. That would be pretty hard to do when WCW vs. the World is for Playstation. Oops. I had it confused with WCW vs NWO World Tour for N64 as a lot of the characters you mentioned and their Japanese counter parts were in that game.

Street Fighter III on its way to PS2...
Pegasus Kid replied to Use Your Illusion's topic in Video Games
Which infinites? Sorry Renegade, I meant unblockables (like Urien) and 100% combos (like Makoto's and Chun Li's). As far as I know, there are no infinities in 3S. -
Wow, I think I'd better dust off my N64 and play this game again because I sure as hell don't remember any of these secret characters. I guess I was too busy playing against my buddies to actually play in single player mode. Man, back in the day WCW vs NWO would provide hours, even full days worth of enjoyment. I can't believe more games didn't incorporate the Round Robin mode. That along was enough to keep six - eight of us busy for the day.
-
Oh man, some of these "strategies" are laughable. Where are the people that actually play fighting games on a regular basis? Renegade? Thoth? SOMEONE CHIME IN WITH SOMETHING REAL! Can anyone drop a link to "The Code Of The Scrub" for everyone to read? Don't even get me started on the guy who thinks there are no overpowered characters in 3rd Strike.

Can anyone point me in the direction of "Rage Of The Dragon?" It's probably the only fighting game I don't own on MAME.

Shinzaki is a bit too... um... inconsistent? Heavyweight = Kobashi Junior = The Bitchmaster.

Are these matches good enough for the asking price
Pegasus Kid replied to a topic in General Wrestling
I'm rusty so don't hold it against me. Also, you might want to look at the source material for this set. A lot of these matches were on I believe Bob Barnett's Best of Jushin Lyger tape from a few years back. 1. Jushin Lyger vs. Kuniaki Kobayashi (4/24/89) Pretty pedestrian stuff. Lyger still had that horrible costume at this point. In fact when I saw the date I thought it may still have been Yamada. Either way it's OK but not great. 2. Jushin Lyger vs. Hiroshi Hase - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (5/25/89) Same thing here. Hase was always fun to watch during this time as everything was full of fire but Lyger wasn't all that great. 3. Jushin Lyger vs. Black Tiger - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (7/12/89) I don't recall this being very good at all. 4. Jushin Lyger vs. AKIRA (7/28/89) 5. Jushin Lyger vs. Takashi Iizuka (11/3/89) I haven't seen these. 6. Jushin Lyger vs. Naoki Sano - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (7/13/89) 7. Jushin Lyger vs. Naoki Sano - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (8/10/89) WTF? He's got these two but not their match from 01/90? These were both good but nothing compared to the title change. 8. Jushin Lyger vs. Hiro Saito (1/18/90) 9. Jushin Lyger vs. AKIRA (1/25/90) 10. Jushin Lyger vs. Villano III - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (9/30/90) I haven't seen these. 11. Jushin Lyger vs. Chris Benoit - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (11/1/90) Very good stuff though they'd have better matches in later years. 12. Jushin Lyger vs. Negro Casas - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (12/26/90) 13. Jushin Lyger vs. Negro Casas (4/19/91) I've seen the latter but I can't recall how good it was. Sorry... 14. Jushin Lyger vs. Owen Hart (4/28/91) Fun fun fun, I loved this match. It's not over the top great but still really enjoyable. 15. Jushin Lyger vs. Norio Honaga (4/30/91) I was never a fan of Lyger's grace vs Honaga smash mouth. My opinion is a bit too biased. Didn't like it (obviously) 16. Jushin Lyger vs. AKIRA - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (3/21/91) Probaby the best match these two have had. 17. Jushin Lyger vs. Chris Benoit in a Mask vs. Title Match - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (7/4/91) Very good stuff though I do prefer their G-1 92 match a lot more. 18. Jushin Lyger vs. Norio Honaga - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title (2/8/92) See 4/30/91 19. Jushin Lyger vs. El Samurai - TOSJ Final Match (4/30/92) The one mach show. Classic. 20. Jushin Lyger vs. Chris Benoit - IWGP Junior Heavyweight TItle (2/10/92) Hmm... I don't think I've seen this. 21. Jushin Lyger + Koji Kanemoto vs. Ultimo Dragon + Masao Orihara (12/11/92) Great stuff from 3 of four guys. I'm surprised to see that Dragon didn't have a very good performance. 22. Jushin Lyger + El Samurai vs. Chris Benoit + Dean Malenko (3/9/93) ??? I've never heard of this. 23. Jushin Lyger vs. Tiger Mask III (5/3/93) 24. Jushin Lyger vs. Tiger Mask III (1/4/94) I"ve only seen the dome show match and we all know you domes dont' favour juniors well. 25. Jushin Lyger + Ultimo Dragon vs. Hiro Saito + Norio Honaga (2/16/93) 26. Jushin Lyger + Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Genichiro Tenryu + Koki Kitahara (8/3/93) 27. Jushin Lyger + Kensuke Sasaki vs. The Steiner Brothers (2/17/94) I haven't seen these. Weird... I don't recall even hearing about the latter two. 28. Jushin Lyger vs. Masaji Aoyagi (6/12/92) I wasn't impresed. 29. Jushin Lyger vs. Shinya Hashimoto (2/24/95) This was pretty good but it sucks knowing that the junior is 99% never going over the heavy. 30. Jushin Lyger vs. Hayabusa - J-Cup 1994 (4/16/94) Lyger does a good job carrying a very green Ezaki. 31. Jushin Lyger vs. Ricky Fuji - J-Cup 1994 (4/16/94) Boring. 32. Jushin Lyger vs. Great Sasuke - J-Cup 1994 (4/16/94) Classic stuff. I used to think this was the best match I'd ever seen. 33. Jushin Lyger vs. Super Delfin (6/13/94) Super Junior Finals right? This was good but not great. 34. Jushin Lyger vs. Yoshiaki Fujiwara (6/13/94) Boooooring. 35. Jushin Lyger vs. Gran Hamada (8/4/94) Hmm... I'd like to think I've seen this but I'm drawing a blank. 36. Jushin Lyger vs. Naoki Sano (10/9/95) Fun stuff but not on the level of their title match back in January 1990. 37. Jushin Lyger + Koji Kanemoto vs. Naoki Sano + Kennichi Yamamoto (10/29/95) Haven't seen it. 38. Jushin Lyger vs. Black Tiger - BOSJ Final Match (6/12/96) This was really good but far too short and I found the ending anti climactic like they had a ton of stuff left in the tank and just went home. 39. Jushin Lyger vs. Dick Togo (6/17/96) I love this match. Togo was really on during this period. Gotta love that Senton Atomico from the ring to the floor. 40. Jushin Lyger vs. Ultimo Dragon (8/5/96) Too short but we all know that. 41. Jushin Lyger vs. Ultimo Dragon - J-Crown Championship (1/4/97) Hmm... this was probably just under their J Cup 1995 match for quality. Very good match. 42. Jushin Lyger vs. Masayoshi Motegi - J-Crown Championship (3/20/97) I haven't seen this. Jushin Lyger vs. Minoru Tanaka - Best of Super Juniors Final (6/4/01) This was very good. Tanaka could do no wrong around this time so everything he did was gold and Lyger though a bit grumpy kept up very well. DVD BONUS MATCH: Jushin Lyger vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan - G-1 Climax (8/4/01) DVD BONUS MATCH: Jushin Lyger vs. Masahiro Chono - G-1 Climax (8/6/01) I haven't seen these I don't think this set is worth $40 to be honest. A quick check of the list has only five matches (#14, 19, 32, 38, 41) at ****+ and personally, I like a higher standard of matches when I'm shelling out that kind of money on a compilation. -
Street Fighter III on its way to PS2...
Pegasus Kid replied to Use Your Illusion's topic in Video Games
What he said (though RC'ing lets you bend the rules of SF a little too much). -
What version of DVD X Copy do you have? I have Platinum Edition (whatever the hell the latest one is) with crack. Look me up if you need a hand.

Street Fighter III on its way to PS2...
Pegasus Kid replied to Use Your Illusion's topic in Video Games
I'm prety sure this will be a direct port. In fact, if you look at any of the SF Fanboy sites like SHORYUKEN they're not only clamoring for a direct port, but a direct port of the arcade that had all of the programming flaws (infinites) rather than the balanced out version that was released for Dreamcast. Odds are new characters would be considered blasphemy and ensure the game wasn't bought by the majority of people who would usually support it; the hardcore community who live and breathe SF. -
How you could say the "fighting library is very exaggerated" is beyond me: Super Street Fighter II X Street Fighter Alpha 3 Marvel vs Capcom 1 Marvel vs Capcom 2 Capcom vs SNK Pro Capcom vs SNK 1 Capcom vs SNK 2 Street Fighter III: Double Impact Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Plasma Sword Last Blade 2 Garou: Mark Of The Wolves King of Fighters 99 - 2002 Techromancer Soul Calibur As for the stuff that can be found on other systems MvC2 was a HORRIBLE translation with slowdown, game mechanic changes (none for the better) and graphics that didn't look nearly as good as the DC. CvS2 is a respectable port but it still have slight mechanic twitches (why they felt the need to change things is beyond me) The KOF Series turned out horribly on PS2 Soul Calibur II was beyond the DC, I'll give you that much. The Dreamcast is a fighting game fans dream. There isn't a hardcore SF Competitive player that doesn't own a DC. It just has too many good games (translated properly thank goodness) for little to nothing in cost.

I read the first two pages and the last two pages. Props to this guy for getting the girl. Loss of all respect for "reporting" how your dates went. The word "SUCKER" to all of you that read this whole thing.
