    Spring Training 2009

The Nationals are strongly considering firing Jim Bowden and replacing him Blue Jays assistant GM Tony LaCava. Bud Selig has already given them the go-ahead to make a change without interviewing a minority candidate.

    Makin' Music with Peter Bone

I think I saw a movie once that starred Peter Bone. We can talk about in LSD.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

Maybe I'm buying into the hype too much, but I think John Carlson's a future star. I still think they need a legit #1 wide receiver. Not sure if Crabtree is that guy or not, but I hope he is.

    Spring Training 2009

Good thing he ran himself out of Boston for fear that they might pick up his two $20 million player options. That would have been devastating for him. EDIT: They've reportedly agreed to terms. No link yet. EDIT 2: LA Daily News retracted the done deal article.

    The TSM Weight Loss Contest

I might publish one last update this week, but I doubt it. The crucial weigh-in is the one before next Monday.

    Kindle

Amazon just released the second version of their popular Kindle Wireless Reading Device. For whatever reason, I have a hard time getting behind an electronic reading device. Unlike an ipod with my music collection, I don't have a desire to carry around dozens and dozens of books. Is anyone using this device? Any thoughts on how it works and what the advantages and disadvantages are?

And I can't wait for another year of Marvin doing play-by-play for a sub-.500 team that no one else cares about.

    A challenge for BruiserBrody.

I'll openly admit it: this made me lose it.

    This week in the NBA

.. You're WHAT NOW? Had I known this Cheech, I would've never voted to let you back into the Secret Society of Blue Mods. This is truly a betrayal for an Oregonian. What are you, from California or sumthin'? Non-practicing Kings fan at the moment. Yes, I grew up in northern California, which explains my Kings and Raiders fandom. I never fully developed any attachment to the baseball teams from the bay area and adopted the Red Sox in my late teenage years due to my undying Yankee hatred. I like watching the Blazers and they are an easy team to root for, but I'm not going to turn my back on the team I grew up with because they suck monkey balls and the owners seem to only be concerned with hanging out in Vegas and bitching for a new arena. Sorry to disappoint you so much, VX.

    This week in the NBA

Two players who couldn't crack the rotations on below .500 teams. Forgive me if I feel a little underwhelmed by these moves. The Celtics need depth, but doesn't it seem like they are looking in the wrong places? As a Kings fan, let me explain: Mikki Moore is a bad player. This is not PJ Brown redux. Brown was a terrific player in his prime who was reaching his final days. He had a lot to offer in limited minutes in terms of rebounding and defense. Moore is a hustler and will grab a few boards, but he doesn't really do much more than Powe or Davis. Marbury could be rewarding, but House has done okay as the backup PG and Rondo's developed enough that he can play the majority of crunch playoff minutes. You just don't know what you are getting with Starbury, both in terms of attitude and play, given that he's sat out an entire season.

    Debating D'Antoni's Suns

I don't see how D'Antoni's Suns were any different from the Kings and Mavs of the early to mid oughts. All of them had a certain degree of success playing an uptempo system, but ultimately failed against better, more balanced teams. It seems a little ironic that there seems to be a backlash now against that team as I know I was shot down on several occasions in the past when I said they weren't good enough to win the title. As for Nash's two MVPs, I don't have any qualms. Inevitably that discussion will turn into a Most Outstanding versus Most Valuable argument, which I'm not interested in. The way I look at it is Nash ran the most successful regular season team for two consecutive years. He had as much as a case anyone, even if historically he'll fall short of the other two-time winners.

    One Nation Under Blogs

Blogs have essentially taken over the internet world, managing to both gain in popularity and draw the ire of every newspaper employee across the country in recent years. They basically run the gamut from can't miss to unreadable drivel, with 95% of them falling somewhere in between. What blogs do you read?

    My new way of eating.

Stop listening to these people. Just keep using the system that works for you. Everyone's body works a little bit differently and you found a mix of diet and exercise that was giving you results. I don't know why you're so overly concerned with what other people have to say about your diet.

    The TSM Weight Loss Contest

Sorry I haven't posted Excel chart updates. I'll try to do that tonight. As I stated last week, the contest ends on February 28th. Please have a final update between now and next Monday. Thanks.

    What Now, TSM?

Marney's dead, Leena's a penis-toting weirdo, and Milky disappeared into the internet ether. Hell, even the warlocks that hang out in OAOAST are talking about abandoning the board. Czech says we've reached our natural conclusion, Kamala's contemplating TSM: The Next Generation and EHME is spitting a garbled mess that needs a translator. This place has hung around through thick and thin, from Scott Keith looking like Hitler to $10 computers, Benoit killing his wife and kids and finally, TSM becoming the playground for Danny Maff's Nitro Party. My question is simple: Where do we go from here?
  22. Cheech Tremendous

    What Now, TSM?

The what now? Czech went into a funk for about 20 minutes yesterday where he thought it was time to delete TSM and go our separate ways. It was probably serious at that moment, but no one should take the suggestion seriously.

    This week in the NBA

Amare Stoudemire has a detached retina. He's going to miss the rest of the regular season. (Link) Bet he didn't see that one coming. Suns ownership probably wishes that they would have made a deal now. What a downer for a franchise that had their first glimmer of hope after two Clipper beatdowns under new coach Alvin Gentry. In other news, Kevin Garnett is heading back to Boston to have an MRI on his knee. No one knows the severity of the injury yet, but it doesn't look real good on the surface. In post trade deadline news, Mikki Moore has been bought out by the Kings and Joe Smith has asked for his from the Thunder. Both would be in consideration as bench help for the Celtics and Cavs.

    Spring Training 2009

Andy Marte, the former number one prospect in baseball, was designated for assignment yesterday by the Cleveland Indians. During the 2006 offseason he was the key piece traded in the Braves acquisition of Edgar Renteria and the Sox' pursuit of Coco Crisp. Unfortunately he never showed the ability to hit anything at the major league level and now sports a career OPS+ of 56.

    What Now, TSM?

And you've got a sarcastic comeback in all of them. Good work.
