Alex Rodriguez to opt out of Yankees Contract

Some of the other sites out there are killing this guy on nyyfans named frostdude1. Doesn't he post here too? EDIT: I knew it. He was the guy that posted like 20 gay pics of A-Rod after he hit his 500th homer.

I think I'd be willing to try out some Alicia Keys. I like the singles well enough.

WWE General Discussion - November 2007

Well it's hard to judge either JBL or Morrison without knowing what was exactly said or how it was delivered. If he pulled a couple of youngsters aside to offer tips on improving themselves, it was a nicegesture. If he was merely interested in dressing down some youngsters to make himself feel better than you have a point. I hate when we get this news stories without any context.

Alex Rodriguez to opt out of Yankees Contract

Sounds like it will be a ten year deal worth between $275 and $290 million. That's about double what the Red Sox were (or were prepared to) offer, so the whole "coming back at below market value" is kind of face-saving statement. I think Boras, A-Rod and the Yankees all misplayed the market for Rodriguez's services. In the end, the Yankees need a 3B and A-Rod needs the Yankees.

    This week in the NBA

Apparently the Knicks will explore trade options with Stephon Marbury. Yeah, good luck.

The maximum fine for missing a game without team approval is 1/110th of your annual salary. Marbury makes about $20 million this year, so that's how the $180,000 figure was derived.

Did you even read all that stuff above the part you bolded? Because it does a pretty good job of explaining his thinking. Your argument is like watching the last 20 minutes of Star Wars and getting mad because "Who the fuck is this huge black robot with the Mufasa voice?" Of course I read it. I just bolded the part towards the end for its stupidity. I'd be willing to concede the larger point about his voting(although I don't agree with his methodology at all), but to cite Beckett's performance in the four games you watched as reason to not vote for him seems particularly flimsy.

Small sample size, anyone? By the way, this just proves what I've always though about these awards. The ones voting put far less thought into them than I do.

    This week in the NBA

Well, it took all of 11 days for this year's Knicks to fall apart. I was thinking they could make it until Christmas.

I'd give up Lester in a heartbeat for Santana, but that's not the issue. It's giving up Buchholz, Ellsbury AND Lester that I find hard to stomach. That's three premium, cost-controlled players with major league experience for a pitcher about to reach free agency.

    Masters and DH Smith suspended

If that's the case, WWE is even more stupid than I thought. What a ridiculous waste of resources. The company needs to be more concerned about fostering an environment less reliant on drug abuse than trying to make examples to save face with their detractors.

    NFL week X! DIVISIONAL DESTRUCTION!

It's not bad luck, it's football. Guys get hurt. The Colts have been extremely lucky in recent years to keep all of their regulars healthy. Some of that luck has run out this year, but the injury story is overplayed. A lot of teams have dealt with the same thing.

Nobody in baseball is untouchable, especially when Johan Santana is on the return end.

Lackey led the league in ERA and park adjusted ERA. He beat Beckett in VORP and posted a better strikeout rate as well while pitching almost 24 more innings. I wouldn't have voted him first, but I don't think it was terrible enough to question his right to vote. Let's save that hyperbole for the NL MVP vote, which is going to be an absolute mess.

I'd give up Buchholz, Ellsbury and another top prospect (Lowrie?) for Santana, but would probably balk at the inclusion of Lester. Earlier in the offseason, I thought the Yankees should offer up Cano, Wang, Melky and Kennedy for Santana and Nathan. That'd give them their ace starter and Rivera replacement while allowing them an opportunity to fix their up the middle problems. I don't think it's that realistic though.

You know what's ironic about CC winning the Cy Young? The 40 extra innings he pitched burned him out and probably cost the Indians a chance at the World Series and winning the award probably made it cost prohibitive for the Indians to resign him next year.

What decline? Mariano was as good last year as he's ever been. He's going to decline eventually, but I'm not event that sure it will happen in the next three years.

I am a huge Red Sox homer and even I consider this the right call. The numbers were damn close, but Sabathia pitched 40 more innings. That's huge. I can't believe that CC was left off one ballot and Beckett off of two. What the hell were they watching this year?

    NFL week X! DIVISIONAL DESTRUCTION!

I generally agree with all of this, except I think Pittsburgh and the NY Giants have shown enough to differentiate themselves from the blob of mediocrity as well. Neither one's making the Super Bowl, but they are better than the teams consituting "Everyone Else."

Pending confirmation, this is really the best deal for everyone involved. That's a lot of scratch for a 36-year-old catcher, but what else could they do? There are no replacement options out there and someone (Mets) would have given him the same offer if he reached the free agent signing period. How many more years can he catch? Two maybe? I guess he can switch to 1B or DF after that.

Delmon Young also put a .288/.316/.408 line for an abysmal 91 OPS+. He also contributed horrible outfield defense (-10 in John Dewan's +/- system) and lead the American League in both outs and GIDP. His 127/26 K/BB was also a favorite of mine. Just because he got to play everyday with one the league's best offenses doesn't take away the fact that he was barely a replacement level player.

Dustin Pedroia and Ryan Braun are your AL and NL ROY, respectively. AL Voting NL Voting EDIT: Holy crap... Jeremy Guthrie didn't get one vote? EDIT #2: Delmon Young is going to be the best player in the bunch over his career, but he flat out sucked this year. How did he get any votes, let alone finish 2nd?

True. Aaron Boone is the lasting mental image, but no one faults Tim Wakefield. The real goat is Grady Little, who inexplicably left Pedro in when he was dead tired. Pedro knew it. The front office knew it. Every Boston fan across the nation knew it. Sure, 04 and 07 have exercised a lot of these demons, but the fact remains Grady Little cost the Sox the LCS that year and quite possibly the World Series. That screwup will never be forgotten. Had they won that year, we'd be discussing the Red Sox dynasty.
