I disagree. The merger needed to happen much sooner than it did. These two companies spent way too much money in advertising and on talent to try and kill their competition. The marketplace simply wasn't large enough to support two competing satellite companies. The fact that that the merger was caught in bureaucratic hell for 18 months did far more damage to the companies than anything else.

Favre Retirement II: Electric Boogaloo

I beat Cheech to the punch in posting this, and we already had a topic about Favre's never ending quest for attention. I don't see why the threads couldn't have just been merged, it would be interesting to have the Favre saga as one big thread. Oh shut up, bob. You bumped a year-old thread and you did it after I started this one. No one gives a shit but you. Go bitch somewhere else. -
So that's why they are trying to trade Tyson Chandler.

Favre Retirement II: Electric Boogaloo

This made me think of two things: 1. Did Favre get a pass for most of his career because of the Super Bowl win and three MVPs? I remember quite a few sub-par years over the last decade or so. There's not a lot of sustained playoff success either. 2. Where does he rank all-time? Is he a top-five Quarterback? Top ten? -
Favre Retirement II: Electric Boogaloo

Ouch, this is rough. Here is a quick re-cap of Favre's year from an ESPN article: The Jets went 9-7, failing to make the playoffs despite committing $140 million to free agents such as Alan Faneca, Damien Woody, Tony Richardson and Calvin Pace and trading for Kris Jenkins. Favre led the NFL with 22 interceptions and had a 79.3 second-half passer rating. He threw two touchdowns and nine interceptions in the final five games. The Jets were 1-4 in those games and needed a miracle defensive play to beat the Buffalo Bills. The Jets released Chad Pennington to make room for Favre. Pennington led the Dolphins to the AFC East championship after a 1-15 season in 2007. The Dolphins beat the Jets at the Meadowlands to clinch. The Jets' late-season collapse cost several people their jobs. They fired Eric Mangini the day after the season finale. Mangini landed with the Cleveland Browns. Adhering to superstition, Mangini in October named his newborn son after Favre. Maybe Wite-Out has been applied to the birth certificate. Favre learned he suffered a torn biceps during the season and was playing hurt. Favre created tension in the Jets' locker room. Running back Thomas Jones publicly said Favre should have been benched for his poor play late in the season. Safety Kerry Rhodes noted he would like Favre to come back only if he committed himself in the offseason. -
Or, can we just forget about this one and let it fall off the page since it involves a six-month old news story will little relevance to today's news.

Favre Retirement II: Electric Boogaloo

He was, but I don't think there's much of a chance that the Patriots bring him back next year if Brady is healthy. They'll trade him before the start of the season and the new team will negotiate a long-term deal. -

Would the Jets even think about Cassel, or will they turn to the draft? I guess Garcia might be available, but there aren't many starting options out there in free agency. Also, is the Jets run damaging to Favre's legacy? Will anyone remember his embarrassing finish in New York or will be forgotten like so many other HOFers spending their twilight years in new cities with bad performances? -
I really, really enjoy the service, but with the budget a little tighter this year I might actually cut this if they drop Howard Stern. All the music channels are wonderful, but I end up Stern's channel at least 60-70% of the time. Maybe I'm not understanding this properly, but it seems like you'd have to have a really screwed up business model to go billions of dollars in debt on a product that has 20 million monthly subscribers. Sure, there are huge capital investments in a venture like this, but they've hung around for five plus years already.

Can't say that I can fault the Yankees for declining to offer arbitration now. The market for declining sluggers with no defensive talent is toast. Sorry to break it to you (you meaning: Manny, Griffey, Dunn, and Anderson).

Wally Z, JJ Hickson and a couple of first rounders? Weak deal, but it's at least a framework for what they are looking for.

They can go halfsies on it.
-
It cost the Red Sox $7 million and two good prospects just to get rid of Manny.
-
They also have $143 million committed for next year, which puts them in second place in spending by a good margin.

I've been busy, but this is too complicated for me to figure out who's left and ranked where to make a successful pick. It's constant checking and re-checking of past picks and keepers. There has to be a simpler way. Worthless. I take it getting a magazine and circling the guys that have been selected/kept is too challenging. A whole 20 minutes of work. Matt Young is out. We are ahead of schedule big time right now so I'm going to pause the drafting until we get a new manager. Can a mod real quick toss up the 1 spot available in the thread subtitle. The new manager will get to inherit Matt Young's single correct pick of Alex Rodriguez, and they will need to select a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round pick and then be ready for the 5th round pick which will occur after JHawk's picks. Wow... Way to treat the players like crap. Not all of us can afford to spend $10 on a magazine of all things, and yet because your draft setp is an unorganized mess, the blame is placed on the first time player who is confused. Wow... just wow. Man, I hate to overdo this thing, but here it comes:

The Suns would definitely want more back than that. Not to diss David Lee or anything, but he's an expiring contract and a significant downgrade from Amare. They want to get back a blue-chipper that they can build around. It's just unfortunate that Steve Kerr might think that Tyrus Thomas or Andres Biedrins is that guy.
