I Put My Finger on Why WCW Seemed So Intolerable At Times
Cheech Tremendous replied to zappafrank's topic in General Wrestling
You know why I found WCW so intolerable at times: the wretched booking. -
What if Hogan turned down WCW's offer in 1994 and decided to return to the WWF in the fall or the first part of 1995? How different would the promotions have looked?

Gotta love that Yogi Berra. And it should read "If Hank Aaron were alive, he'd be rolling over in his grave."

So Joel Piniero has been DFA. That was certainly a waste of $4 million. I guess that's what you get when you take roster advice from the guy who used to run the Kansas City Royals. Then again, I am happy with the way Boston's bullpen has turned out this year. Theo went out and threw a bunch of shit at the wall, and some of it actually stuck this time. Still wouldn't kill them to go after one more arm at the deadline.

I don't think that I'm ready to make full predictions yet, but at this point, I can't find many reasons to think that the Bears have been surpassed in the NFC. They should still have an amazing defense and special teams. That wins a a lot of ballgames. SF looks like they are going to make the leap. The rest of the conference is going to be a lot "meh." As for the AFC, I think New England has clearly surpassed Indy as the class of the conference. I'm on the Denver bandwagon for the West and I fear that SD is going to disappoint everyone this year.

I don't think there's anyone, even the most homerest of Yankees fans, that think Jeter is a better player than A-Rod. They may like him a hell of a lot better, but no sane person would actually attempt to argue that point of view.

I don't understand the move. Lester just isn't ready. I would have rather seen Hansack or Buchholz if they absolutely decided that Tavarez couldn't start anymore. Maybe he's being packaged in a trade and they needed someone until Schilling was ready to return.

Angels back-up catcher Jose Molina has been traded to the Yankees for AA pitcher Jeff Kennard. Good pick-up for the Yankees. He can't hit anything, but he's a good defender and a more capable replacement than Nieves. Kennard isn't really a prospect, but then again LAA has a history of turning these guys into useful parts. On the Boston front, Schilling was supposedly great in his Pawtucket start tonight, throwing mostly strikes and dialing it up to 94 MPH. I'd assume he makes it back after his next start and Julian goes to the DL.

Transcript on the Boras-mechanics issue.

I took the Amtrak from Redding to Portland one time. Worst mistake of my life. Just get on the Amtrak website and get a ticket. Be prepared though, it takes a long time to get from Ashland up to Portland.

Same with Rick Ankiel and Matt White. I don't want to deflect all blame to Boras, but it is sort of suspicious that some of these guys were so highly regarded and have come under serious fire later on for failure to adjust their mechanics properly. And for those that don't know, Craig Hansen was the Red Sox first round pick in 2005. He was supposed to take over at closer by the end of that year. He literally had a flawless resume with a zero point something college ERA, an untouchable slider and endless comparisons to Billy Wagner. However, he's been a wreck for the past two years in the minors and it's been blamed at length on his mechanics. He did have a very violent delivery in college that many are assuming Boras tinkered with.
-
Totally stealing this info from another board, but Peter Gammons was on ESPN radio today and remarked that the Red Sox now blame Scott Boras for fucking Craig Hansen's mechanics to high heaven. According to Gammo, Boras keeps his own staff of coaches who advise his clients to keep deliveries that will prolong their career even if it alters the player's ability. Jayson Stark has remarked that the same thing has happened to former stud Mike Pelfrey and that it is a situation that is now permeating throughout the league. If this is true, then wow. I've always supported Boras' negotiation tactics because he always had the interests of his clients at heart, but I don't think he should be tweaking the players or interfering with the team's coaching.

It should be noted that any money Steve Francis makes the next two seasons goes directly back to Portland under terms of their buyout agreement.

Haven't you guys ever had a red beer or bloody eyeball before? Same thing essentially. Sure, I think it's disgusting, but it's not that strange of a product to promote.

The WCCW dvd could be a lot of fun. Not really interested in any of the rest.

Forget about this Bonds character. I need to know more about the SS with the .629 career OPS.

Edge injured; out of action for undetermined length of time
Cheech Tremendous replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Or terrible, but your mileage may vary. In fact, that's one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. -
I think Wilson had a blow-up with the manager or some coach the other day. He's as good as gone. I also heard that Ian Snell may be available because management isn't high on him or some crap. The Pirates... can't understand why they are about to have their 15th consecutive losing season.
-
Yeah, Lugo had an OPS of like .300 in June and looked totally cooked. He's had an OPS of 1.000 over the past 15 days or so. Both are small sample sizes, but it at least looks like he's back to being the player the Red Sox thought they'd get when they gave him $36 million in the offseason. Wilson makes quite a bit of money as well and his contract runs for a few more years. He can't even put up a .700 OPS. I don't think that he's worth it.
-
If you're suggesting that the Red Sox would prefer Jack Wilson over Julio Lugo, you're crazy (besides Lugo's actually mashing the ball right now). The only way they'd consider that is if they had a deal in place already to move Julio Lugo to another team or there was a significat piece coming from Pittsburgh that would require us to eat Wilson's ridiculous contract. I just don't see either of those scenarios playing out at the trade deadline. Wilson, if he's traded, would likely go to Toronto or a team that, you know, actually needs a SS.
-
The Cubs traded Cesar Izturis to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Probably the precursor to a Jack Wilson trade, although off the top of my head I'm not sure who needs a SS.

What Would It Take You To Stop Watching WWE Programming
Cheech Tremendous replied to Nate's topic in The WWE Folder
With the exception of a few shows here and there, I haven't watched consistently since 2002. Summerslam 2004 was about the time I finally called it quits for good. I think I've watched maybe 2 or 3 full shows since then but I still take a look at show results and peruse this folder to see what's going on.
