    WWE rebounding from WM 23

I also think you could have a cocky, young face or heel win it and cash it in the next night only to lose the match. Then you could build up 6-12 months of storyline with the wrestler trying to get another shot at the title knowing that they let their ego get in the way the first time. Adding some character development and multiple feuds around the mitb premise is the next logical step.

At least Pavano stays on the DL where he can't do any damage. Lugo has had over 330 plate appearances this year and has got on base less than 30% of the time. He's like a swirling black vortex where the Red Sox offense goes to die.

Dice-K got off to a somewhat rocky start, but has been lights out ever since. He's probably one of the ten best pitchers in the league right now. Not to put down what Pedroia or Okajima have accomplished, but getting 6 or 7 quality innings every five days is worth a hell of a lot in my book. He's not my pick for ROY, but I think he's been the most valuable rookie to the Red Sox.

Let us not forget to honor the first half's Least Valuable Player: Julio Lugo. It's not everyday that a player with a sub-.600 OPS keeps his starting job on a contending team.

It'll be interesting to see who they get to fill the 1-4 timeslot. I fear that they'll just "promote" Cowshit or Seibel. They seem to love those guys when no one else does. If they were smart they'd pull Kuselias back from that NASCAR show and hand it over to him. He was by far the most entertaining personality outside of Patrick. I wonder how much of this decision was impacted by the Price Is Right thing? How surreal would it be to see Dan F'n Patrick replace Bob Barker?

AL MVP - Alex Rodriguez, NYY It's a near dead heat between him and Ordonez from the plate. Magglio is slightly better at getting on base, which is offset by A-Rod's power advantage. I gave A-Rod the nod because of his superior defense and baserunning along with the fact that many of his biggest hits have come in key moments for the Yankees this year. AL Cy Young - Dan Haren, OAK Haren's been the best pitcher in baseball this year to the surprise of many. He just edges out Johan for the first half honors, due to better ERA and HR/9 rates. AL ROY - Jeremy Guthrie, BAL Guthrie has been absolutely filthy this year. A true out of nowhere performance. AL MOY - Terry Francona, BOS I could go with him or Eric Wedge. Boston is sporting the best record in baseball desptite some abysmal performances from many of their players. Tito's done a good job at masking the team's deficiencies. NL MVP - Barry Bonds, SF No standout performer in the NL to give the award to. Utley, Hanley and Miggy have all put together good performances as well. Bonds is leading the league in OBP and OPS, which is enough to give him the nod. NL Cy Young - Jake Peavy, SD This could be a tie between him and Brad Penny. Peavy's got the advantage in K. NL ROY - Hunter Pence, HOU Nothing to say here. NL MOY - Ned Yost, MIL Milwaukee's been great this year. Yost has made the most out of a young squad and made a few unique roster moves that have worked out to the team's advantage.

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

The WWE would have fallen in size anyway. After a few of the early patches, TEW was tweaked to make it harder for a promotion to achieve and maintain growth. I've had a few crazy things happen too; Ricky Morton retired and died on the same day at one point. Well, at least that's a good reason to retire.

Its possible Rock had his "...drink a tall glass of SHUT UP JUICE!" catchphrase used as a attack on Juvi's gimmick. What do you mean by possible? That's exactly what it was.

Am I missing something here? Why does everyone here hate LeBetard so much? I can think of about 50 ESPN personalities who are worse.

I'm guessing they are holding Rey back because of all the steroid heat right now.

I thought JA "I'm not an OPS guy" Adande was absolutely brutal on PTI yesterday. I'm indifferent towards him on ATH but I thought he came off really poorly in the PTI setting. I can deal with Lebetard. At least he seems knowledgeable about all the subject matter.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

Whether or not they were on steroids (and both men have strong links to steroid use), Rock and Austin were both huge men.

Rashard Lewis never really struck me as a max money type of guy, but that's the NBA for ya.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

I doubt it would mean much, legally, to the guys getting the stuff. I think they are far more concerned with snuffing out the dealers than the actual users. Could be hell professionally for some of these guys though. It at least sounds like Rey is going to get depushed in the wake of this steroid news.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

It's not surprising that Benoit was already being investigated byt the DEA. I'm sure Rey, Angle, Edge, Orton and whoever else were named in that bust a couple of months ago are being watched very closely.

He was under the influence of alcohol. His blood test came back at a 0.72 which is just a hair under the legal limit. He can still be charged with a DUI under the minimum impairment rule. They didn't cut Tank because of speeding. They cut him because he promised to change and then went out and shower poor judgment days later. I doubt the Bears regret their decision in the least.

Perfect time to make CM Punk champion?

It's apparent that they want to use the slow burn for Punk. Putting him over Nitro just weeks after he won the belt under dubious circumstances would do nothing for either wrestler or the title. Second, putting the title on Punk because's "clean" sends a bad message to the other wrestlers and the fans. It indirectly implies that the company thinks its other workers aren't, and that's dangerous ground to tread on. Let him reach the belt on his own merits; not as a gesture to placate those concerned with the steroid situation. We know that the company is high on him. We also know that his attitude has rubbed some people the wrong way. No sense in rushing the title to him when his detractors might have it out to sabotage or undermine his run.

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

They were a group of six guys that were booked against each other ad nauseum for about a six month period during the time Heyman headed Smackdown's writing team. The matches themselves were consistently good, but it did little to elevate the wrestlers in the long-term relative to the rest of the brand. For many observers, it was a great time to be a fan because of the high level of workrate being exhibited. For others, myself included, it was an egregious case of lazy booking because of the lack of forethought being put into the matches themselves.

    This Week in Baseball 6/25 - 7/1

It seems petty to fire the manager when the talent assembled shouldn't win any more than 70 games. Griffey and Dunn are the only hitters worth a damn on the team (and surprise, they are both on the trading block).

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

I'm shocked. This means Vince really valued Piper. Piper was basically the Shawn Michaels of the 80s. He just flat out refused to job to anybody, no matter the circumstance. In the end, it probably did him more harm than good because after the initial Hogan feud he never got another chance at the top. Had he been more willing to give something back to the business, he might have gotten a token title run or another chance to work with Hogan.
