Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released
Cheech Tremendous replied to Human Fly's topic in The WWE Folder
Some people are in serious denial about this. The fact is we know nothing about the guy. Just because he was a good wrestler does not mean that he was a good person. I can understand admiring the guy for his dedication to his work, but there is no need to try and rationalize the murder. Let's look at the guy's past. He was, by all accounts, an abuser of steroids. He stole his boss' wife. He bailed on a struggling promotion the day after they made him the focus of the company. There isn't one thing there that suggests he would go on to murder his whole family, but he's not a saint that was destroyed the horrible underbelly of wrestling. -

It's the only thing they can do. It's time to go on with business as usual. No sense dwelling on what appears to be a horrible act performed by a despicable human being. -

I always thought Benoit modeled his career after Dynamite Kid, not Jimmy Snuka. -

How do you put a tribute show together in a couple of hours? Not surprised if they really did send everyone home. -

It's been what, an hour, since WWE broke the news? It's conceivable that the local news outlets haven't picked up on it yet, or don't have enough information to go with a story. I'd wait until the 11 o'clock news. -
If they didn't want to give up Jefferson and #5 for Garnett, why would they do it for Marion or O'Neil. That's just stupid, but then again, Danny Ainge...

Mentioned it in the other thread, but Vince should make an appearance at the start of the show to announce Chris' passing and clearly draw the line between an angle and real life. Chris deserves a real tribute. -

Vince, as owner of the company that Benoit worked for, needs to make a statement tonight. They can't keep him off to protect the whodunit angle. -

There is no way they can continue the McMahon angle in any way now. Not when one of their biggest stars dies this like this. -

WWE General Discussion for June 2007

No, he won the world championship. -
Hadn't heard that, but it doesn't surprise me given this guy's attitude and history. I still can't believe that ownership rejected a trade that would have sent him to New York for David Lee and expiring contracts.

There is about no chance in hell that Pettitte passes up that juicy $18 million option for 2008. No chance. Pavano signed a four-year deal that ends after 2008. The club has an option for 2009 (which they won't pick up, so they'll have to buy out the final year).
-
Are you sure the judge won't throw out the case? I'm not sure she has a leg to stand on.
-
Don't forget Pettitte. Actually, Pavano will still be under contract too.

McHale doesn't understand the concept of trading a guy a year too early instead of a year too late. It's weird that Garnett has been so steadfast in wanting to remain with Minnesota his whole career and now he's got the franchise by the balls because he won't accept a trade anywhere except Phoenix.

His record concerning shortstops says hello. He just makes some odd choices sometimes (Lugo this year, Rentaria instead of just keeping Cabrera, trading Arroyo right after signing him to the extension, giving Drew all that money instead of just filling the RF hole for a year and going for Ichiro). Well, Cabrera sucks and he wanted Renteria money too. It's easy to think fondly of Cabrera because of 2004. Doesn't take away the fact that he hit .257/.309/.365 in 2005. Arroyo was effectively 7th on the pitching depth chart going into 2006. They tried to get value for him while they could. Turns out Pena couldn't play RF though. Drew has struggled but I still have faith in him going forward. I don't regret that deal, especially when it's no lock that they could have gotten Ichiro or Andruw Jones this coming offseason.

I contemplated that, but then again I've never known Spaceman to be that subtle.

No way he passes a steroids test. -
Didn't the Bulls offer Tyson Chander, Luol Deng and their two no. 1 picks for Garnett last summer? A competent GM could have snatched up Aldridge and Roy and stuck them in a rotation with Chandler, Deng, James, Hudson and Davis and STILL had two lottery picks this year in one of the best drafts in years. They literally could have turned that whole thing around in 2-3 years. Now they just have an even worse mess and aren't likely to get much for Garnett even if they manage to trade him.

Why do you think Darius Miles' career is over? Randolph and Stoudamire have shown that it is possible to come back from microfracture surgery.
-
Most players? Or Barry Bonds? And before you start, yes I know the whole "get that nigger off the field" story.
-
I sure wish we would have given him that 4/$52 million contract he wanted. And by the way, I remember getting sufficiently killed last year for saying that Theo was one of the best GMs in the game because even though he's made mistakes along the way he's stuck to an approach that will keep them competitive into the future. All I heard was they should have resigned Pedro. They should have resigned Damon. Beckett's a bust. Bard's a future star. Etc, etc. How's that looking now?
