I don't think she's going to be walking anywhere.

Bill Simmons is developing a creepy infatuation with Kevin Durant.

You're trying to tell me this slack-jawed yokel is from Kentucky? I don't believe it.

The Tigers traded Mike Maroth to the Cardinals today. This presumably opens up a spot for Andew Miller.

It's sort of cool that Cal played in all those games, but I still think the consecutive games streak is the most ridiculous and unimpressive of all the hallowed records in sports.

The NBA and college hoops are two different games with vastly different audiences. College hoops has the best postseason of any sport and that draws a ton of casual interest. The regular season, however, doesn't mean much to anyone outside of local fanbases. College will always have its supporters because of the nature of amateur athletics, but it's not even comparable to the NBA from a quality or importance standpoint. The league tried for too long to build the league on the backs of stars and it bombed once the Magic, MJ, Bird, Barkley crowd retired. It has totally backfired on the league because fans are conditioned to worship stars instead of teams and the game itself. The playoffs are too long, I agree. But the best of 7 format is probably the only postseason system where you can truly say the best team always wins. How often has the best team in the league not won out? Miami last year? Maybe LAL in 2002, but even then they turned it on when it counted. Merely having a bunch of teams win 50 games doesn't signify a higher level of quality. It just shows the disparity between good and bad teams. Not that the East was anything special this year, but Atlanta, Detroit, Charlotte, Orlando and Washington were all jobberific in their own right. The Bulls teams were great in the late 90s but they were feasting on a really weak league. -
99% of all covers suck.

You know, the more time that passes the better the Beckett/Lowell - Ramirez/Sanchez and Mirabelli - Bard/Meredith trades look. Everyone killed those deals last year and now I say they are both a wash.

Ideas for Improving the MLB All-Star Game

I prefer the idea of giving it to the league that has the best record in interleague. Maybe we can get something useful out of that horrible abomination if they are going to subject us to it every year. -

The problem with that is the unbalanced schedule. A team with 100 wins in the NL Central is probably not as good as one with 95 in the AL East. I don't think best record is particularly helpful when there is such a vast difference in quality between the AL and NL. -

Seriously, though, what's a better solution? -

I don't understand why everyone hates the "This time it counts" aspect. It's not any more arbitrary that awarding it to the team with the best record or alternating year to year by league. Not that I think the sipulation is needed, but I find it odd that it gets everyone's panties in such a bunch. -
Trying to traverse Portland through any of the highways (217, 26, I-5, 205) is a bear nearly any time of the day. I often have to make my way around several of Portland's "suburbs" in a day for work and it's a bitch almost every time. It's not that it's a terrible city traffic-wise, but suprisingly unmanageable given its size. Seattle, on the other hand, is awful. Screw Boeing.

I don't think I've seen a real good movie yet this year. Knocked Up was probably the most enjoyable, but it's a stretch to call it great. 300 was fun to look at, but it was paper thin on story and character development. Spidey 3 was entertaining, but underwhelming. Pirates sucked dick. I didn't bother with Grindhouse and I have yet to see Hot Fuzz or Ocean's 13.

Mr. McMahon "dead" - Now for the "whodunit" angle.

Real classy. -
Getting through Portland in the mornings or evening can be a 1 or 2 hour affair. That's a ridiculous amount of time for how small (relatively) the city is. It takes my gf a minimum of an hour to get from SE Portland to Hillsboro, no matter what time of the day she leaves.

It's only too much talent if you really think Jefferson is going to be a franchise level player. Remember that in the NBA the team acquiring the best player usually wins the trade in the short and long run. I think Jefferson has shown amazing potential but I'm not sure he'll ever be as good as KG is right now. Pierce and Garnett can get you to the ECF. I'd rather get than far that toil around with a team full of "potential." You know, even if KG opted out next year, Boston would have a ton of caproom, right?
-
Doesn't look like the table is going to trasnfer very nicely, but here are the players for this year's Futures Game.
-
Poor, poor Boston. Watch them go and overpay for a Marion or Kirilenko just to save face. I think KG wants Phoenix, and if not, he'll go sign with a contender next offseason.

WWE General Discussion for June 2007

I want a Hogan v. Flair double retirement match. Let them go out together. Yes, I realize that there is no chance of this ever happening.
