Harvey slips to the Sox and... they pass? WTF?

Still a fine performance... and they won. I can live with that.

    MLB Draft

Early concensus seems to be that Arizona, Atlanta and Texas were the winners of the first round. Matt Harvey, Julio Borbon and Josh Smoker are the biggest names to fall out of the first round. I guess there is a miniscule chance that Harvey could fall to the Sox, which would be about the best possible outcome they could have hoped for.

    MLB Draft

The Tigers grab Porcello at 27. Like that pitching staff needs another potential ace. Jesus. The Yankees reached and took Andrew Brackman at 30. Like I said earlier, I was worried about the Sox taking him at 55. The injury stuff may have just been a smokescreen to get him to the Yankees. I didn't think he was as good as Bard, who has done nothing in the minors so far.

Something's a little fishy with the whole Donovan thing. I know that people change their minds, but within a span of about 30 hours he went from ecstatic to running from the job as fast as he could. You don't give up $27.5 million, an NBA head coaching job in your backyard and instant fame because of a change of heart.

    MLB Draft

Porcello is all projection right now, but his ceiling is the highest. I've heard many say that he's the best high school pitcher in the draft since Beckett in '99. He's going to cost a fortune, though, and he's dropping because of it (probably to Detroit or NY). Milwaukee took Matt LaPorta, who was draftet by the Red Sox last year but never signed. He may have the most power of anyone, but he can't field a lick.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs San Antonio Spurs

I like how the Mavs are dead and buried because they screwed up one series against the Warriors. I know that the loss exposed them in some ways, but it doesn't take away the fact that they were arguably the best team in basketball the past two years. Hollinger said in his chat yesterday that the 02 Kings and 07 Mavs were the best teams to not win a championship. That sounds about right. This team will be right back in it next year.

That's crazy. That whole team is Nash and D'Antoni. Take away either of those pieces and that team regresses by ten games or more.

    MLB Draft

So I guess the Royals decided on Moustakas over Vitters. If Porcello really falls all the way to the Yankees, I might break something.

    MLB Draft

Yeah, I heard that the first round has never taken more than an hour in the past, but it could go several today because ESPN is going to want to milk each of the five minute periods for analysis. I'm starting to think that tv coverage is a bad development for baseball.

Funny Al. By the way, SOSH and BP are doing live updates, so don't feel compelled to spend your afternoon writing updates for me.

    MLB Draft

That'd be great. I only know about 5-10 players in the draft but you might have a better idea who some of these guys are and why they are getting selected.

    MLB Draft

Draft starts in about a half an hour. I'm work so I won't be catching any of the live tv coverage. Someone want to keep a running update? I thought that the Sox were going to take 6'11' flamethrower Andrew Brackman (NC) with their first pick, but the latest rumor is that he needs Tommy John surgery. Not sure who is at the top of their board now.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs San Antonio Spurs

This current team could win a championship, but they haven't and I don't know why they would be the favorites going into next season. You obviously disagree and that's fine.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs San Antonio Spurs

The lack of bench development is their own fault. They could have had Luol Deng or Rajon Rondo developing nicely the past few years, but ditched those picks because they didn't want to pay the bill. Now they are in the position where they are going to have to trade Marion or even Stoudemire for 75 cents on the dollar because of the luxury tax. They had injuries in 05 and 06 but we are talking about players who are only 4th or 5th best on their team. It's not like when Webber went down and Kings still pushed the Mavs to seven or when the Mavs gave the Spurs a hell of a fight when Nowitzki was hurt. Injuries happen and you can't blame the outcome of the series on them. The Suns were clearly an inferior team to Dallas each of the past two seasons. I don't know why you refuse to acknowledge that. They've been one of the two or three best teams in the league several years running, but have come just short of the title. With Nash aging and impending departure of one of their key pieces, I don't understand how you think they are getting closer.

Nevermind my earlier comment, Van Gundy is taking the Magic job. Might I dare say that this is a better move than hiring Donovan?

The big league squad might have to cut back on payroll just to afford the post-game spread for Scranton.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs San Antonio Spurs

In my mind, the Suns are still behind the Mavs and Spurs in the west and Utah, Houston and Denver are creeping up on them. I love the Suns, but I think we've seen three years in a row that they aren't quite at that elite level.

Fat Elvys just got the boot from Pawtucket last week. Well, technically, he opted out but the team told him that he wasn't getting a shot this year.

That's awfully high for the 2000 Lakers. The fact that it took an utter collapse by a superior team to even get them in the finals kind of reflects poorly on them. I don't know how you could have them ahead of the 2003 Spurs, who absolutely steamrolled through everybody on their way to the title. Rest of the list is solid for the most part.
