Josh Beckett showed last year that even ace-caliber pitchers can have a tough time making their living in the AL East. I'm not throwing up the white flag yet.

    Wii

Wii Sports is an excellent intro for the casual gamer and explicity shows why the Wii is different from every other consold that has been on the market for the past ten years. It may be demo-esque but it has sold the system to tons of people. Hell, I was sold on it after playing it.

Looks like Dice-K is getting some good karma for those 2-1 losses earlier in the year. Anyone find it odd that Matsuzaka's main selling point was that he replicated his arm slot and release point perfectly and it gave him pinpoint control? Haven't seen a whole lot of that yet this year. And he can't pitch out of the stretch to save his life.

I have a hard time believing that non-fans would buy WM based on the premise of Donald possibly getting his head shaved (or Vince, for that matter). I always used my parents as a gauge for this stuff. They've always hated wrestling and have done a lot to avoid it over the years. So when they start asking me about a wrestling angle, I know that it is having some impact on non-traditional fans. They were moderately interested in the Trump-McMahon stuff. It had to draw some casual buys.

    5 Greatest Intercontinental Champions

I'd agree with that. Jarrett is in the next tier of great I-C champs alongside Rude, the Rock, and HTM.

Is it time we stopped laughing at the Royals for giving Gil Meche $55 million?

As I noted before, the reason they moved Brett Myers to the pen was that they absolutely could not use Lieber there any longer. Jamie Moyer's a soft-tosser, Freddy Garcia is an innings-eater and Cole Hamels is their ace. That left Myers and Adam Eaton, and teams don't like to take their newly acquired starters and stick them in the pen since it will discourage future signings. I'm fine with it as long as Myers is moved back to the rotation by next season. I bought into the idea of moving Myers to the bullpen as it solved two problems at once (clearing a logjam of starters, adding a K-guy to the pen) but it just seems like they are back to square one using him as the closer. They don't have any reliable bullpen guys to bridge between the starters and the closer. Myers is being underutilized.

So Donald Trump is a draw?

    5 Greatest Intercontinental Champions

Honky was a HUGE draw while he was the IC champ. Shows that he headlined did just as well as the A shows in some cities and were totally sold on the idea of Honky getting his ass kicked. I don't know how you can consider that a poor use of the belt when it got him, his challengers and the belt over in a monster way.

Hey Al, how do you feel about the potential move of Myers to closer in Philly? Seems like the only reason you'd have him in the bullpen in the first place would be for high leverage, multiple inning stints. Isn't this a waste of their best pitcher to use him in the tired, up by three at the start of an inning role?

    NBA Playoffs 2007: Round 1

I've made mention of this before, but the NBA's horrible salary cap punishes teams like the Lakers. It's what has caused the NBA to have three or four good teams, three or four bad teams and 20 others who are completely mediocre. The Lakers are now stuck in this wasteland. They have no chance to land a decent draft pick based on where they are picking, and the salary system will keep them from adding another talent to Kobe+Odom. There is really no way for them to make the leap into the upper eschelon because they aren't allowed to acquire the talent. It's a horrible system that needs to be revised because it has done nothing for the NBA since it was implemented.

ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

He's really bad, but Dan Shaughnessy might be worse. He thinks he's bigger than the subjects he covers. By the way, I actually got a chance to recently read some of the stuff that Plaschke wrote about Paul Depodesta when he got hired in LA. What an asshole. There is no way half of that stuff should have made the paper. He had a vendetta against the guy the second he walked in the door.

Anybody who is saying that he should have hit Cornette back has obviously never had a real job, or if they did, I bet they didn't last long. You cannot strike another employee, especially if you are that employee's superior. Carelli handled the situation exactly how he should have.

    NBA Roundtable Discussion

Seems a little early for NY Times to jump on this study when it hasn't been peer reviewed or published in a journal. Who knows if their methodology will hold up under scrutiny? EDIT: Looks like the NBA is pissed as well.

I heard that one too. If Beane is looking to trade Harden, he's going to want Ellsbury+Bucholz at the minimum, and probable one other serviceable player. I'd stay away on that one because you know he has to be screwed up if Beane is willing to trade a cost-controlled Cy Young type pitcher. It's also been suggested that he might be trying to use the Sox to get a good bid from the Yankees. I know they wouldn't give up Hughes or Tabata, so pitching problems or not, it's probably a non-story.

Top Ten Draws In U.S. Wrestling

The Austin/Undertaker match had the highest rating ever achieved for pro wrestling on cable television, but it occurred during the overrun after Raw had technically ended. This Is Your Life is the highest rated segment that actually occurred during the two hour television program. You are just arguing semantics at this point.

Top Ten Draws In U.S. Wrestling

That's a decent list for the most part, but I question the inclusion of Dusty Rhodes. He drew really well for an extended period of time, but it was mostly as the foil to Ric Flair. If you are including him in this discussion, you'd have to include Vince McMahon and HHH as well, because I doubt Austin or Rock would have drawn all that money without their top rivals.
