Interesting. All things considered, I think I still prefer JD Drew as the long-term solution in right field, but I would have loved having Gary Sheffield. I know PECOTA is really down on him this year, but I can see him thriving in that Detroit lineup.

So I've been playing Sheik Yerbouti almost non-stop since I picked it up yesterday. Is the consensus to pick up Over-Nite Sensation next?

Wasn't someone bringing up the point a few weeks back that Favre is much better when he has an accomplished RB to hand off to? I guess they are trying to disprove that theory.

Matt Clement p 3 years/$25.5M (2005-07) 05:$6.5M, 06:$9.5M, 07:$9.5M Jason Varitek c 4 years/$40M (2005-08) 05-08:$9M/year Edgar Renteria ss 4 years/$40M (2005-08), plus $11M 2009 club option 05:$7M, 06:$8M, 07:$9M, 08:$9M, 09:$11M club option ($3M buyout) And Drew and Julio Lugo could be right around the corner. The Matt Clement market was already set by the deals given to Kris Benson and Carl Pavano that same year. He got fair market value, and probably would have lived up to that contract had a bomb not gone off in his arm in the second year of the deal. Tek was an overpay to keep a homegrown guy. I'll give you that one and possibly Renteria, although I'd be inclined to say that was fair market value at the time regardless of how shitty he ended up being. JD Drew was a steal compared to the Soriano, C. Lee, Matthews and Pierre deals, which were all OF contracts signed this offseason. It may be insanely large in dollar amounts, but it isn't the sort of deal that changes the payscale for comparable players.

They should have just done Diesel/Michaels II at Summerslam that year. I know that they didn't do face/face in those days and they were hellbent on turning Diesel into Hogan 2.0, but that was the match everyone wanted. It had a great backstory too.

Really? I parlayed my econ degree into a job within a week of graduating college, and my two best friends had guaranteeed jobs before they finished school. Your mileage may vary, but I think econ is the easiest degree to turn into a real job because the course work is so applicable to real life.

Well they have Brandon Jacons to handle RB, so that's not exactly a gaping hole. I don't know what the backups look like, so maybe that's what you're referring to.
-
Dominic Rhodes signs with the Raiders for two years. I'm not sure what this does for either side. Rhodes could have turned his Super Bowl performance into a starting job somewhere and the Raiders could have used the money to upgrade their abysmal o-line. Perhaps they are concered that Lamont won't bounce back, which is understandable.

It's also interesting that people think there is some sort of Cardinals voodo magic that changes the fortune of busted pitchers, when in reality they just have an excellent pitching coach. It's really that simple.

The weird thing is a lot of scouts don't see anything wrong with his mechanics right now. His decreased velocity seems to stem for some sort of mental barrier instead of lingering effects from his injuries. If that's true, who knows what will happen.

Just to reiterate what others have said, it was just a very bland show. Leading up to the event it felt like any other PPV instead of the biggest show of the year. First of all the venue is lame. Hartford for a Mania? Diesel-Shawn is totally underwhelming as a title match given that a couple months earlier Shawn was an inactive manager and Diesel was a midcard heel. Bret was totally wasted in a midcard match. Nothing was actively bad, but nothing really clicked either.

Is that why she quit? I knew something seemed a little off with that whole situation.

I heard yesterday from a couple different media outlets that the team would actually cut him if he didn't show signs of improvement in the spring. That seems rather harsh.

What has A-Rod ever done to be a disgrace to baseball? I don't really care for the guy, but he hasn't done anything to harm the game. Clemens on the other hand, I totally agree with. Excuse me? What monstrous contracts has Theo handed out that changed the payscale and didn't work out? He's the guy that passed on Pedro, DLowe, Nomar, Damon, etc. because they were getting offers for above market contracts. He's had his failures like anyone else, but in contract terms he's been one of the most restrained GMs in the game.

Told you so. Sort of.

I haven't been that up on the draft lately, but the only names I've heard in connection with Cleveland are Adrian Peterson and Brady Quinn. Calvin Johnson might be on the radar, especially with the Lewis signing, but most mock drafts still seem to show him going to Tampa Bay.
-
I heard on the radio yesterday that they want to rid the league of all flopping, so you may get your wish.
-
Jamal Lewis was their running back. He was probably one of, if not the worst, starting back in football. You can't blame that all on the o-line. EDIT: Thought you were talking about the Ravens, not the Browns.
-
You don't see how this is a good deal for the Ravens? They just majorly upgraded their running game and last time I checked the Ravens liked to run the football. McGahee isn't just someone else's garbage. He's very close to being an elite back. He was jettisoned because the Bills are too cheap to pay him. Wes Welker just got traded for a #2 and a #7. Two 3s and a 7 isn't exactly a king's ransom.

How lucky will the Angels be if they get a mulligan on that Gary Matthews contract?

Video of Jack Veneno beating Ric Flair for the NWA Title
Cheech Tremendous replied to Shooting Star's topic in General Wrestling
I don't understand why Veneno, Colon and Jovica's reigns aren't recognized by people nowadays? Is it because the switcher were never ackowledged in kayfabe? Same thing with Inoki's WWF title reign. If a switch happed why can't we retroactively recognize it? -
I picked up Sheik Yerbouti today and I'm digging it so far. Maybe I can "get" Zappa after all.
-
King is being a total homer. Kobe was being an asshole and the league is punishing him for it. It's a bush league move he's pulling in an effort to draw contact. He should have learned his lesson for the first time they suspended him. I'm just glad he hasn't seriously injured anyone yet.
-
It's ridiculous to tank your season anyways. Being the worst team only gives you like a 40% chance of getting one of the top two picks.
-
I think that Andrew Walter could be a serviceable QB in the league, but when you have the no. 1 overall pick you have the opportunity to get an impact player that can change the fortunes of your franchise. I'm not sure Russell or Quinn is that guy, but I can see how you'd be pressured to select one of them.
