    NFL - Week One.

There is no such thing as a curse. It's just coincidence. Is that really a reason to think that the Seahawks won't get back to the playoffs?

    NFL - Week One.

Seattle is probably the best team in the NFC this year, and has a cake schedule. Unless they are decimated by injuries, they should be a lock to get back to the playoffs. Those teams who didn't get back did so for a myriad of reasons, none of which appear to apply to this year's Seatte team. What does everyone have against the Seahawks, by the way?

Couple of points about your post: 1. Ortiz is not horrible in the field. He's mediocre. He can't play the position full time because of bad knee problems he acquired playing on the turf in Minnesota. Sure it's a knock against him that he DH's, but it's not because he's completely inadequate. 2. Jeter is having a great year, and his defense should count as a plus for him. However, is his defense enough to bridge the gap in offense to Travis Hafner? If defense is really that important, should Joe Mauer be given even more credit? 3. Jeter will score 100 runs because he has Abreu, A-Rod and Giambi hitting behind him. And even though he hits in the two hole, he has better OBP guys in front of him than someone like David Ortiz does. Once again, those are team dependent stats, and have little reflection on a player's true value. Jeter is having a fantastic year, and is an MVP candidate. But there are arguments to be made for other players. Quit being such a homer.

But they really weren't that good of a team. The offense always looks good because Manny and Ortiz produce a ton of runs, but that doesn't mean they have much 1-9. There is no one in that lineup with even 15 HR this year. Coco has been batting leadoff, and he's had an OBP under .300 for most of the year. The team was outperforming their true talent level for most of the yearbecause Papelbon was lights out in relief and Papi was unreal in close and late situations. They were able to outperform their Pythagorean record by a ton the first half of the year. But once the team started succumbing to injuries, it really magnified how bad things had gotten. All that being said, why should anyone discount Papi's MVP candidacy because the rest of the team failed? How much of this is really in his hands?

While I don't really like that Ortiz is taking this to the media, he's absolutely right. Manny and Papi have carried a really poor Red Sox team this year. The fact that they are going to wind up just outside of the playoffs is a weak argument to vote against him (any many writers will use that excuse).* *I'd still vote for Hafner, or maybe Jeter, but Ortiz is a top candidate.

AHHHHHHHHHH! Today, I vandalized a bathroom to fix "I could care less." Guess what? I could care less! Haha.

I cannot figure out why there are so many analysts out there who the networks seem to love but the general public finds replusive. Steve Philips insults my intelligence, and is a main reason that I don't watch Baseball Tonight.

Howard is older (by two months), according to Baseball-Reference.com. This is a key point. A friend asked me a month ago about Howard's HoF chances. I told him Howard has a snowball's chance in hell. Only one Hall of Fame position player (Sam Rice) became a regular at 25 or older. But few players are EVER as good in their careers as Howard is right now. Al, what's your position on the theory of "old player's skills"? Would Ryan Howard fit into this categoy? What should we expect on his career trajectory? Should we expect a long, successful career or is he the type that could see his skills diminish quickly by his early thirties?

Rob Neyer made an excellent point in his EPSN chat today. For all of the talk about Ryan Howard being this great young masher, it is easily forgotten that Albert Pujols and Adam Dunn are still younger. EDIT: On second look, Pujols is a couple weeks older (provided his birth certificate is actually legit).

    Paris Hilton

I could give a shit less about Paris Hilton, but she has made more money through her own ventures than she would have inherited from her father. I'd say that's hardly doing nothing to be famous. Sure she got ahead in life because of who she was, but you can't fault her for not making the most of it.

Fuck. So I know that it's the National League, and I know he plays in a cavernous football stadium, but this one still hurts give how abysmal Josh Beckette has been. But congrats to the kid.

"The Natural" Butch Reed - new WWF I-C champ?

What he said. Honky (and/or Hulk Hogan) have told the story of the Butch Reed no-show, with the story being Hulk suggested Honky to Vince on the spot. However, the plan was always to give Honky the belt and the Butch story was totally made up. Someone else may be able to fill in the details I can't remember (Hunter's Torn Quad?).

I remember reading a few years back that the Kamala figurine was the rarest wrestling figure out there, and worth hundreds of dollars.

It seems like there has been a huge black cloud hanging over the entire Red Sox organization the past month or so. Really tough break for the kid. Hope he can make a speedy recovery.

do you feel all provocative now? i can only imagine how proud of yourself you were after typing that. suddenly, your musical opinion is rendered irrelevent. Ah, thanks for letting me know that, dickhead. Guess I don't need to bother posting here anymore.

Exactly. Until we see one guy come back from microfracture surgery with more than 75% of their original explosiveness, I'd stay cautiously optimistic. He hasn't really been recovering on the timetable that the doctors originally predicted. Plus, last year's team played with a different style and culture than they did with Amare. Amare's minutes and touches are going to come from the players who excelled in the system last year. How does getting him back make them the '05-'06 team + Amare instead of just an updated version of the '04-'05 team?

http://www.rototimes.com/player_notes/mlb There's the link so it doesn't look like you're just blurting things out. I believe that was a mistake by Rototimes. They misinterpreted an article that said he was the designated hitter. That being said, I am fairly certain that the Sox were shopping him this week. I can't believe that there wasn't one playoff team looking for a veteran .300 hitter with a decent glove (and an All-Star this year to boot!).

Rap music died March 9, 1997. There is hardly anything in the genre that is redeeming right now. I love rap music, I just hate what it's become. And the reason it has become that way is guys like Carlito who buy into this superflous shit.

Wow, if the Seahawks were to actually get him, I'd slot them as the favorites, SuperBowl and Madden curse be damned.
