Nice gesture, but the shoes are ugly. I believe Shaq does the same thing, but doesn't actually wear them in game situations.

I guess you missed the last page where it was revealed that the deal fell through because Suggs failed his physical.

That could have been such a brilliant feud if they booked it right, and gotten both men over huge going into the remainder of 2002. They totally missed the boat on addressing the backstory between the two.

What the hell is a "stat player"? I don't even know what that means.

In light of what Wilcox and Gooden got, makes that Nene deal look even worse.

Who plays RB for the Jets this year? Do they have anyone who can carry the ball 15+ times?

The problem with Baseball Prospectus is that they have too many staffers who are indignant towards traditional analysis and think the metrics they utlize are flawless. Some of the tools are phenomenal, such as PECOTA, but that is offset by others, such as their traditionally bad fielding metrics. The inability to separate the good stats from the bad in their toolbox often leads to a flawed analysis.

You are such an annoying Yankees fan.

This is Tommy's gimmick. Did you even watch ECW?

Joe Sheehan has a strange article up at BP.com about this year's MVP race. What about it is strange, you ask? He doesn't even have David Ortiz in his top 5, nor does he even think of him as much of a candidate other than having added a few extra wins with his clutch hits. His top 5: 1. Jeter 2. Mauer 3. Santana 4. Sizemore 5. Ramirez

That doesn't seem too terrible for Drew Gooden. He's not a great player, but is a good contributor at the 4.

Been to a couple of Mariners games so far this year (v. Royals, v. Sox) and will probably hit up a couple more before the year's out. Also went to Red Sox/Rangers doubleheader at Fenway back in June.

So apparently winning the NWA World title wasn't a career highlight?

The Eagles went to four straight NFC championship games with basically the same team they are putting out there this year. Sure, the rest of the division has gotten better, but they should absolutely be in the playoff hunt. Don't even look at last year, McNabb was hurt from the get-go.

Hey, they should check into Bobby Abreu. I hear he gets on base at a decent clip.

I've become increasingly worried about the Red Sox. Four of their main pitchers are rookies, and at least three of them seem to be running out of gas. Tek is out, Trot is out, Lowell and Youks are regressing to the mean and Coco forgot how to hit while he was injured. This team desperately needs Wake, Wells and Foulke back to give them some innings and take a little heat off that taxed bullpen. I'm still okay with the fact that they didn't overspend for a minor piece at the deadline, but expecting Manny, Ortiz, Schilling and Paps to carry the team for 162 games is asking too much. This skid was inevitable... I'm just worried it came at the wrong time.

Flair, Windham, Arn and Tully, with the original incarnation running a close second

He had a Grey Goose bottle, but hadn't been drinking. The cops didn't even administer a breathalyzer because they said there were no indication he had been drinking at all. Word is Clarett made phone calls to Jim Tressel, Lebron James and Tom Friend in the hours leading up to the event to thank them for all they had done for him. Makes it seem like Clarett figured it was his last free night, whether he ended up in jail or prison.

That's one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard.

ESPN Radio was reporting that he was in close proximity to the home of the witness who was testifying against him in the robbery case. I'm not sure if that's a meaningful tidbit or not because it might just be a coincidence, but it does cause one to wonder.

A guy wearing a bullet-proof vest packing four loaded guns probably isn't on his way to the orphanage. Being arrested might be the only thing that saved his life.

It's been said before, Hogan has full creative control. They probably agreed the finish weeks ago. Maybe he's decided to put Orton over and wants to have a nice built-in excuse.

The Dolphins are the trendy pick of the year because they improved by leaps and bounds last year and finished strongly. Those are good signs, but I wouldn't go so far as to call them division champs or playoff locks at this point. They are an 8 or 9 win ballclub that could go either end up sneaking in or disappointing everyone. Saban's a great coach and will keep them competitive, but they haven't improved that much all around to suggest they are any better than last year's team.

Jeter is ahead of Ortiz in VORP, has a superior OBP and batting average and has been ruthlessly efficient in stealing bases. He's playing adequate defense at the the rough end of the defensive spectrum. Jeter is having the best season of his entire career. I still have Ortiz ahead of him on my ballot, but he's 100% in the discussion at this point.
