You can't trade a newly signed player until some time during the middle of the season.

OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread for 7/11 (Week 5)
Cheech Tremendous replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
The title changes wouldn't devalue the belt, the title holders you proposed would do the job. Why? ECW was a company that put the belt on 50-something-year-old Terry Funk at the most important show in company history. And Mick Foley is one of the company's most famous alums. Having Foley as champ would allow you to do Foley/Sabu and Foley/Van Dam. Those two matches would probably draw better than anything else they could do at this point. It may not be a great idea, but there aren't many great things about ECW right now. -

Why not use Ric Flair as a transitional champ to Mick Foley? I know that would devalue the belt quite a bit to have three title changes in a short time frame, but keeping it on Big Show long-term probably won't do a lot for it either. -
Good thing they didn't extend Sam Cassell last summer. Now they've thrown twice the money it would have cost to keep Sam on Mike James and Marko Jaric. In a world devoid of Isiah Thomas, Kevin McHale will quickly assume the mantle of the worst GM in basketball (barring a last minute run from Billy King).

Philadelphia needs to find a General Manager like Theo Epstein. Theo's stance has always been to generally ignore what the fans and media will think because in the end they will support a team that wins. Trading Abreu or Burrell for pennies on the dollar because they have some sort of perception as not being winners won't get them closer to a championship than they are right now. A foundation of Abreu, Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, etc. should be enough to compete in the NL for the next couple of seasons. The goal of any deal from here on out should be to upgrade the pitching and finding a decent manager, not looking for "gritty" guys.

I hate to say this about anyone, but I wouldn't be surprised if we lost Angle sometime in the next year. He's just been spiralling downward the past couple years and I'm not sure there is much that can be done about it at this point unless he chooses to get help for himself.

Oh yeah, this going to turn out really well for the Knicks. On another note, Carmelo Anthony is now considering the same offer that Lebron took (4 years, $60 million with an option after year 3). Someone should tell Carmelo that he's not Lebron and should just take the money and run.

At this point, I'd prefer early-1996 WCW to the shit we get now. -
OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread for 7/11 (Week 5)

No way. It has to end with Ric Flair putting Big Show in the figure four, only Big Show grabs him by the throat and powers out into a chokeslam for the victory. -
I don't think he's ugly. Besides, he got with that attractive girl at the end of the movie there. That was my inspiration I used to be able to go to the strip club. If it weren't for Napolean Dynamite I never would've been able to go. I must've rewound the ending part of the movie from the dance on end about 35 times or so. Even today, I'm still on inspiration momentum from that movie. Every time they Napolean starts hitting that ball around that pole thing, than gives his girlfriend 10 followed by the inspirational movie score at the end -- Well, it just give me chills up and down the spine. I become a little teary eyed too. At first I thought that was internet sarcasm, but then I realized who was writing it. That post finally killed the gimmick for me. I mean, I knew it was a gimmick all along, but come on.

10th Anniversary of NWO Formation
Cheech Tremendous replied to Wrestlefreak's topic in General Wrestling
My recollection was that he was at a New Japan show during the UWFi invasion and got the basic idea for the nWo when he saw the heat and passion of the angle. I think the stuff was booked by Sullivan and Taylor. -
And what sort of impact player are they going to get without giving up those players? I can tell you right now, any trade they try to make this year is going to start with Hughes + another player.
-
Sign and trades aren't usually done to benefit the team the player is leaving either. They are done in situations where the signing team doesn't have the financial resources to accomodate the player's demands, or the player is restricted and the former team can match the new offer sheet. Ben Wallace was an unrestricted free agent. Chicago had the money to sign him and he wanted to leave Detroit. He didn't owe a thing to Detroit. Why would he weaken the team he is choosing by agreeing to do a sign and trade? They could have worked out an extension last summer when Wallace got rid of his agent and hired a lawyer to work out a new deal with Detroit. It's their own fault things turned out like this.

Supposedly the deal is set so that Lebron can option out the year the new CBA would kick in, where he would likely be eligible (don't know how they've figured this out already) for a 6 year, $150 million contract. Sounds like LBJ has some good people advising him afterall.

Meltzer WWE notes from F4Daily
Cheech Tremendous replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
EDIT: Nevermind -
Chiming in sort of late here, but finally got a chance to see the movie last night. I was really, really disappointed in this film. I wouldn't go so far as to say I hated it, but there were just so many misfires and I never found myself enjoying the film whatsover. Couple of notes: -Lois Lane was horribly miscast. I never bought into the character or the relationship with Superman. -Most of the dialogue was wooden. There was no feeling or emotion and it made the characters come off flat -Spacey was phenomenal, but his part was so small and the supposed climactic confrontation with Superman was anything but -The movie was too long. The first 30 minutes or so was completely unnecessary and dragged the movie to a crawl right off the bat -And finally, it was sort of corny, which I guess is to be expected with the source material, but it just lacked the believability that was captured by Batman Begins, Spiderman, X-Men, etc. One of the weaker comic adaptations of the past few years

Funny how much difference a year can make when Joe Dumars is considered a bad GM and Elgin Baylor one of the best. It's like bizarro-NBA.
-
Great article from Bill Simmons breaking down the 40 players with the best trade value in the NBA. He does this each year, and it's a great read. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/index Check the sidebar for the 25 worst contracts in the league. I think they're are like 6 Knicks players that show up on the list. Oh, and he absolutely kills, kills the Villanueva-Ford trade that went down last week. Funny stuff.

On a sidenote, some booker (Russo maybe?) wanted to do this in WCW.
-
Kirk Hinrich is one of the best distributing point guards in the league. With Chandler's height and athleticism and Kirk's court vision he should have gotten 10-15 PPG easy. He did what was asked of him and it wasn't much. The Bulls won't miss him. And did I miss something with the Hornets? When did Desmond Mason say he wouldn't come back. I thought he was happy in NO.

OAO ECW Week 4 on Sci-Fi, July 4th
Cheech Tremendous replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
You do realize that it was the 4th of July right? Who's at home watching wrestling? -
AJ Fuckin' Pierzynski?! Are you kidding me? Has there even been a year when the league's best hitter (Hafner) and arguably the best pitcher (Liriano) didn't make the All-Star game?
-
Kelly Kelly is in the bull riding competition. How much more ECW do you want?
-
I believe they were a hardcore type tag team called The Sheepherders before entering the WWE. I haven't seen much of their work before then, but appearing by some pictures I've seen, they can do some nasty blade jobs. Maybe their past reputation as brawlers got them into ECW. Did anyone here acually see the Sheepherders in their heyday? They have a reputation on the net as being these blood-thirsty hardcore brawlers that were sanitized by McMahon, but a poster over at Wrestlingclassics said this was all a myth and that they weren't a whole lot different in their pre-WWF days.

What's so bad about Cleveland anyways? They won 50 games last year and were thisclose to making the Eastern Conference finals. It's not like they are the drizzling shits or anything.
