The first Westside Connection was great, but I don't know about 5 mics. The thing about their rating system was 4.5 mics was perfect for albums that were fantastic, but just missed that extra something that made them a classic. I just thought of another one... Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys. A step up from their classic debut and exhibit A in the argument that sampling is a musical artform in its own right.

I no longer read the Source, but their rating system is probably the best around. They won't give 5 mics unless an album really, really deserves it. Once they retroactively assigned 5 mics to Run DMC, EPMD, etc. they pretty much nailed every great album in rap's short history. The only album I can see that is missing is Eminem's The Eminem Show. The definitive album of the most important rapper of the past 5 years. It has to be on there.

Agreed, the Red Sox should've cut Kevin Millar and kept Mientkiewicz Or got rid of them both because they both suck. Uh...no. Mientkiewicz is JT Snow with a slightly better bat, I'll take that over JT at first, Youkilis seems to be doing okay, but I'd feel better if he were at third Snow is just a placeholder. He'll be gone by the All-Star break. Don't forget that they have Hee Sop Choi down in Pawtucket ready to go. -
Lamar Odom is an overpaid underachiever. I know the guy has talent but he hasn't show the ability to stand up to Kobe and demand an equal role in the team's success. If you have the chance to upgrade to Garnett, you do it every day of the week. Mihm is a dime-a-dozen type center. You can easily replace him on the free agent market with your mid-level exception. As for Bynum, he's probably 4-5 years away from being a major contributor (if he ever does). I think you have to mortgage the future for a chance to win now, especially out in LA.

Garnett is just turning 30, and Kobe is 27. Phil Jackson's contract only runs for the next two seasons. I think they should try to win now and trading for Garnett would do that. They'd probably be the favorites in the west in that situation, and would have a realistic shot at the title for the next 3-5 years. As a card carrying Lakers hater, I wouldn't want to see it, but don't kid yourself into thinking that Bynum and Odom are more valuable to your team than Kevin F'n Garnett.

Hey I'm a big Moss fan (and Raider fan), but don't act like Moss has gotten some unfair rap as a bad guy. He was kicked out of Florida State (think about that for a second), is in the NFL drug program, tried to run over a traffic cop, admitted to taking plays off, and I think had some high school altercation where he kicked a guy in the face or something. Not exactly going to be nominated for sainthood.

I would say that A-Rod is almost bordering on underrated at this point. Everyone rips him for being soft, lacking clutch ability, making too much money, etc. Fans in general want to bash this guy for every little mistake he makes without praising his historical ability. In reality, he's still probably the best player in baseball (or at least 1A behind Pujols). -
To all the Yankees fans out there, was A-Rod's game winning homer against the Sox somehow not clutch because it came in the middle of the game instead of the ninth inning?
-
I'm getting worried by the lack of Sox-Yankees talk.
-
Yeah who would of thought that the owner of Smokey Mountain Wrestling was a fan too.
-
Really? I thought that Survivor Series did a monster buyrate that year.

..... Tell me about it. So let me get this straight. You got tired of a coach who was all offense, no defense and successful during the regular season but not the playoffs, but now you want the guy who wrote the book on this very style of coaching? I pray that this is just smoke, and that the Maloofs and Petrie are smarter than this. PJ Carlesimo, Terry Porter and Eddie Jordan are other names being tossed around. Sounds like a big bag of "meh" to me.

The buzz is that Don Nelson is the leading candidate to replace Adelman in Sacramento.
-
More like a catch-22. Marbury needs to be on a winning team to prove he's good, but no team centered around Marbury can be any good.
-
Kidd is surely a HOFer and Nash might be by the end of his career, but what other great PG has he played with? If you even suggest that Marbury is a potential HOFer, you have no business discussing basketball at all.

Holy shit, I remember when I used to get stoned I'd down those like three at a time.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2438312 Link to a story about Randy Moss firing his agent after being busted for cocaine. When you are too rough for Moss to deal with, you know you have a problem.

"You probably remember how Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, in response to Phoenix guard Raja Bell having thrown him to the floor during their playoff game last Tuesday night, quipped that Bell probably wasn’t hugged enough as a child. After Game 7 of the series, when the Suns humbled the Bryant-led Lakers 121-90, I was told Bryant, as he dejectedly walked from the locker room to a post-game media conference, was approached by a woman who said, “You look like someone who could use a hug.’’ The woman? Bell’s mother." Too awesome for comment.

Even with the Clemens monster season last year, I always thought Oswalt was considered to be the best of the Astros' three aces. -
I think it might be time to start fresh with a new coach instead of the same old retreads. That being said, I'd have no problem with Stan Van Gundy.
-
Rick Adelman, like many others (Don Nelson, George Karl, etc.), fits into that weird mold where they can get almost any team to be successful and reach the playoffs, but can't do anything once they get there. On one hand, I'm okay with the decision to move on but I just hope they find someone good. Ironically, I would think Larry Brown would be perfect for this situation, but I'm not sure that they could work anything out with the Knicks.

In other news, Bonds' agent expects him to play in 2007, despite him saying earlier in the year that this would be last season. A move to the AL to DH is likely. In a true WTF moment, his agent said that 1,000 HR would be a possibility if he starts DHing. By my calculations, he'd only need to hit 30 a year until he's 50 to accomplish that. Sounds reasonable.

No, you aren't. I really don't see how his antics should affect me seeing his movies. In my opinion, M:I:3 lived up to it's hype. I thought it was an example of what an action flick SHOULD be like, it hooked me in from the beginning and never let go. Nobody is the movie is gonna be winning awards for this, but it was worth the price of admission. Probably the best one out of the 3... Anyway, I really don't why this didn't make more. Could it be the 6 year gap in between them? I have no answers... While ridiculous at times, his actions over the past year have been entertaining for the most part. The only thing he should've held back on is his rants on scientology. Why shouldn't his antics affect one's decision to see a Tom Cruise movie? I have made a conscious effort to not see any Tom Cruise film in the past year or so. Why? I don't like him getting publicity and being the eye of the general public. I don't want my dollar to somehow make its way back into his pocket. M:I:3 was a vehicle to get Tom Cruise over and I will not support that. There are plenty of other actors out there... I just want Tom to go away. His actions are not entertaining. They're erratic and frightening. Ranting on psychiatry and his ability to cure people based on his thetan level, eating placenta, pulling an ego trip because someone made a joke about his sexuality... it's unnatural and weird. Am I making too big of a deal out this? Probably. But there is no way I'm seeing a movie headlined by this guy and I'm sure there is a huge segment on the population who feels the same way.

How about some nominations for overrated? I'd throw out Scott Podsednik, David Eckstein, Juan Pierre and Jose Reyes. I hate to pick on these guys, but I think it's just a function of the media types loving speed guys at the top of the order despite huge flaws in their overall game. Most of the Sox and Yankees players get overrated, but that has to do with them being in the spotlight all the time.
