What was the biggest crowd pop EVER?
Cheech Tremendous replied to JimmyHendricks's topic in General Wrestling
The biggest "pop" I ever heard was the Austin entrance during the Rock/Mankind match. Watching that today still gives me chills the reaction was so enormous. -
The best thing about this thread is realizing what an utter genius Sting is.
-
Eagles sign Jabar Gaffney. Nice pickup, in my humble opinion.
-
I couldn't have said it better myself.
-
Yeah but according to most experts Bush isn't exactly a RB. He will probably get about 10 to 15 carries tops.
-
Really, I thought that it was more like $250,000. But they did split the pot between four "main events" and the show got an insanley low buy rate... it was stupid for Hogan to quit over it.
-
How long has Murdoch been on the active roster though? Didn't he spend most of the year on a developmental deal?
-
You're right that its pointless to argue about the undercards, but you are still wrong about the bigger draw. HHH-Batista at WM 21 is the single largest grossing event in wrestling history.
-
It also had McMahon-McMahon and the Gimmick Battle Royal. I'm sorry but I highly doubt that many people looked at WM 21 and said they had to order because it had Orton-Taker or MitB.

Keep in mind that all the radicalz took low salary costs to get to WWE. The reason that Eddie's base salary was so low was because he took that contract in 2000 (and I'm guessing his new contract in 2002 was probably about the same or even lower, given the circumstances). The bonuses probably brought that yearly salary up. My understanding of WWE contracts has always been: if x = downside guaranty and y = % cut of merchandise, house shows, etc. then the wrestler's salary is the higher of the two (x or y). The salary is not x + y. So it wouldn't matter that he took a low salary, his merchandise and place on the card should have him making a lot more.

WM 17 had an undercard roughly a million times better than WM 21. The main event always gets credit for the strength or lack of buys. That may not be the fairest assesment, but it is really hard to delineate why people buy certain PPVs. It's easiest to say that PPVs are sold on the strength of the main event.
-
Anybody see a problem with this? Uh, not really. RVD didn't do anything last year and just made his downside. Torrie had all her merchandise sales.
-
For some reason, I thought Mark Henry made a lot more than that.

Not that I deny the absolute greatness of Austin/Rock, but how exactly do you figure their feud was the biggest money maker in WWE history? In terms of total money, it was Austin-McMahon. For one match, it was HHH-Batista. Didn't Austin/Rock WM17 make more money then HHH-Batista? Austin/Rock had the largest live gate I believe, but HHH-Batista shattered the gross PPV numbers. They did over a million buys at $50 a pop. There was a good discussion over at Wrestling Classics on this that I will try to dig up, but even adjusted for inflation WM 21 did unreal numbers, mostly because of the inclusion of the international buys.

Didn't he get about 5 years of those? Yea, pretty much. Wasn't someone on the board saying that hes juiced to near Scott Steiner levels now? Just about... no wonder they might bring him back.

Meltz is reporting that they have moved the TNA Thursday show to an 11PM start time. I don't really see this as good news for TNA as I know a lot of people won't stay up that late no matter what's on.

He was just a normal guy. Not real bright or outgoing, but was popular with the ladies. He wasn't exactly someone who stood out in high school, but the fact that he made it doesn't surprise me either. I'm not sure that makes sense, but hopefully you get my point. What's Lunar? I know he did voicework for Sega CD. Same thing or what? He did the main character in Lunar SSC game for the sega cd which was then put on the playstation. Did his first girlfriend shelly or whatever go to your school too??? No she went to a rival high school in town, and she may or may not have been older than us. How do you know so much about him?

Hey Al, isn't the US squad a faily poor fielding team on the whole?
-
I'm just shocked that the Kings have made it back into playoff contention. With a win tonight they can move up to the 7th seed.

Does anyone else have no idea who Verne Gagne is?! Wow, you are enough of a wrestling freak to post on a message board, yet you don't know who Verne Gagne is? That's criminal.

Drew Brees signs with New Orleans Saints for 6 years, $60 million ($10 million signing bonus): http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2368304 This puts an interesting spin on the draft, as Vince Young probably falls to the Raiders, if not lower.

I didn't get that either really unless it was to exend the "Title chase" for Luger (boy that blew up in their faces) and the celebration never made sense to me - it made Luger & the others look like compete retards to celebrate that he won by count out in the "One and Only" title match he'd ever get against Yokozuna just retarded! He was originally booked to win the title. McMahon later decided that the thrill was in the chase and they should hold off on Luger's title win until Wrestlemania. As for the big celebration, I'm not sure why did they it. Maybe they had it booked that way originally and just didn't feel the need to change it.

Alex Rodriguez is a career .305 hitter in the postseason, with a .393 OBP, six home runs. It's amazing what selective memory will do to some people. Look, this is not a game where the United States is incredibly, earth-shakingly dominant. Baseball doesn't work like that. The '98 Yankees lost 50 games, and that's perhaps the greatest team ever assembled. The U.S. team is facing a collection of pitchers they've never seen before, many with funky deliveries. And when your national team is obsessed with playing the worst fielding CF in the majors, they're going to allow some runs. Upsets happen. This is exactly the problem with running a three game round robin. I have to say though, Korea has really raised their profile in this tournament. They didn't just beat the U.S. They stunned Japan as well. Reference stats all you want, if an important game is on the line no one in their right mind wants A-Rod at the plate. He is simply NOT clutch, unless you're a Yankee hater because then he IS the man you want up to bat. By the way he's only had 2 good postseason series out of 8 he's participated in, 2000 ALCS w/SEA which they lost to the Yankees, he was 9 for 22 (.409) with 2 HR, 5 RBI 2004 ALDS w/NYY which they won over the Twins, he was 8 for 19 (.476) with 1 HR, 3 RBI Combined that's 17 for 41 (.415) with 3 HR and 8 RBI In his other 6 series, he's 19 for 77 (.247) with you guessed it 3 HR and 8 RBI That looks like vintage A-Rod where he pads his stats with a good series here and there, but never gets it done when it matters. You ever heard of a thing called small sample sizes? Look, I am far from an A-Rod lover, but I feel obligated to defend him when people start ripping his lack of clutch play. It's been shown time and time again that there is no such thing as "clutch ability" (re: Baseball Between the Numbers, Mind Game). A-Rod has performed just as well in the playoffs as he has in the regular season, but people just tend to remember him coming up short in a couple of situations. The Yankees wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs without A-Rod on the team last year... seems sort of short-sighted to blast him for not carrying the team on his back in the playoffs.
