  1. I would imagine, given the circumstances and the wording, that WWE received better offers than they had from the CW, and that points to NBC. Friday nights are a death sentence for most shows, but WWE consistently pulled respectable numbers on the definitive #5 network on a death night for programming. It might move nights, it might move hours, but it has to be staying on network television...barring a ridiculous demand from the CW I don't see why WWE would pass on their offer if they had no better choices.

The most likely candidate I would think would be CW's rival, MyNetworkTV. Unless there's an unknown contract provision somewhere for this scenario, I don't believe that Smackdown is limited to NBC Universal outlets.

I would assume that TNA would be moved if Smackdown ends up on Thursdays. Spike isn't stupid.

  2. Okay it sounds like he is gone. Also it seems like MMA is the more likely career path at this time as he is both interested in it and I would assume there would be a no-compete agreement that would preclude any TNA possibility.

I wonder if Lashley asked to be able to wrestle and work MMA and wwe shot him down. However he said it wouldn't be for UFC, so I assume one of the lesser companies offered Lashley big bucks for a few fights.

I doubt WWE would object if Lashley wants to work for one of those smaller groups on HDNet or another low visibility outlet. UFC seems to be the only MMA company that unnerves McMahon.

  3. *sigh @ all this Lashley Hate*

Negroes just can't make an impact in this business anymore

There are successful blacks in WWE. They seem way tilted towards the heel side though. Aside from Kofi Kingston, I can't think of any active black face wrestlers in the company.

  4. Plus you would also have to take in that if Punk said "Screw this world title, I want this other world title instead." it would hurt the ECW title and Chavo as champion a lot.

Since when has WWE booking ever feared hurting the prestige of the ECW title or its champion? In the greater WWE hierarchy, ECW's belt is upper midlevel at best.

  5. In an A-10 matchup that wasn't exactly Rhode Island vs. Dayton, Saint Louis fell to George Washington, 49-20.

The Billikens' 20 point "effort" was the lowest since the institution of the shot clock. The halftime score was 25-7.

That's just hilarious. Especially when you consider that the Fat F*ck that coaches the Billikens (Majerus) has supposedly gone on record to say that he is not a fan of the A-10. Especially its TV contract.

I don't blame Majerus on that one point. The TV contract is a piece of crap.

CSTV is the lead national carrier for the A-10, only the tourney final is on an ESPN channel. CSTV was further given the power to block localized telecasts of games on cable systems that don't carry CSTV. Most games last season ended up as webcast only. The television restrictions have only loosened up slightly this season.

No, I didn't look up a women's score by mistake. AP

(RAWALPINDI, Pakistan) — Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide bombing that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally, a party aide and a military official said.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene saw body parts and flesh scattered at the back gate of the Liaqat Bagh park in Rawalpindi where the rally was held. He counted about 20 bodies, including police, and could see many other wounded.

The road outside was stained with blood and people screamed for ambulances. Others gave water to the wounded lying in the street. The clothing of some of the victims was shredded and people put party flags over their bodies.

The bomb went off just minutes after Bhutto spoke to thousands of supporters and she appeared to be the target of the attack. Farahtullah Babar, the spokesman for her party, said her vehicle was about 50 yards away from blast which went off as she was leaving the rally venue.

  8. Patriots-Giants will air on NFL Network, NBC and CBS nationwide in a three network simulcast.

    AP/NFL.com

The New England Patriots' shot at history Saturday night will be available for every household in the country with a television after months of wrangling.

The game against the New York Giants, in which the Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season, was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs.

But the league announced Wednesday that the NFL Network feed will be simulcast on NBC and CBS. It's a major concession by league officials, who repeatedly said they would not show the game anywhere but the NFL Network. The NFL had faced mounting pressure from politicians in recent weeks to make the game available to more viewers.

This will be the first three-network simulcast in NFL history and the first simulcast of any kind of an NFL game since the first Super Bowl in 1967, when CBS and NBC both televised the first meeting of the champions of the newly merged National Football League and American Football League.

  9. The Congressional hearings will direct harsh rhetoric at the wrestling industry with no substantive change. Media attention will focus instead on steroids/HGH in mainstream and Olympic sports.

The CW network will fold but Friday Night Smackdown will be picked up by NBC for the fall.

The brand extension as we know it now will still exist in name only. The Smackdown/ECW talent sharing agreement will be extended to Raw, allowing tribrand crossovers on all shows. ECW television will be quietly cancelled at the end of 2008.

After the failure of American Gladiators (2.0), Hulk Hogan will rejoin WWE on Vince McMahon's terms.

Ric Flair will be retired as a wrestler by Reid Flair. Ric Flair will become on-air GM of Raw.

JBL's wrestling comeback will be shortlived, he'll take Jerry Lawler's place as Raw color commentator.

Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, Ashley, The Great Khali, D.H. Smith, Jeff Hardy and Mr. Kennedy will be released among others. Shawn Michaels and Kane will retire. Triple H will become less active as a wrestler.

Preliminary plans will be drawn up for a new two brand structure, one brand based on the U.S. east coast that would promote extensively in Europe, Africa & the Middle East, the other brand based on the U.S. west coast that would tour extensively in east Asia, Australia and Latin America.

The Dudley Boyz (under that name) and LAX (under a different one) will join WWE. Low Ki will appear in WWE and disappear just as fast.

Kelly Kelly will pose for Playboy and win the Women's title, in that order.

Matt Hardy will beat MVP for the U.S. title but lose the belt to new heel Smackdown wrestler Chris Jericho.

A new multibrand championship will be created in the fall. MVP will be the first such champion and be feuded against challenger John Cena.

The current WWE & Intercontinental championships will be merged into a Raw-brand only title. The current World & United States championships will be merged into a Smackdown-brand only title.

A new version of Tuesday Night Titans will be offered as a WWE.com exclusive, to be hosted by Michael Cole and Santino Marella.

A WWE kids' cartoon show will be produced to air primarily outside the United States.

Vince McMahon will give up day-to-day operational control of WWE, in favor of Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Vince will still keep authority for the most major decisions though in his own hands.

  10. Today is the day.

I don't really now what it would feel like for a hero to let you down. And I hope tomorrow I can say the same.

    Let's hope...

Today's timeline (all times EST), courtesy Sports Network:

Mitchell Report release & press conference: 2 p.m.

  11. Snitsky as champ is better as IC Champion The Godfather as well, just barely

At least The Godfather was over with the crowd.

The Godfather wasn't over. The ho's were over.

Don't agree actually. In that time and place of the attitude era, the Godfather character did seem over. His wrestling was horrid, of course.

  12. Well if this doesn't lead towards the creation of a playoff system I don't know what else would. It's pretty funny, though, that a two loss team could end up at national champions while Hawaii could end up undefeated and not even play for the title. Yea, I know their strength of schedule wasn't that great and they struggled against San Jose State but they've played their schedule and haven't lost.

In a year in which supposed top contenders lost to joke teams, Hawaii should get credit for beating all the joke teams on its schedule to date.

  13. Because the NFL may want to take the game in a direction away from this sort of game. Look at the way pass interference is called nowadays. Not that they should, but that might be their rationale. The elements belong in football--I loved watching the sheltered Saints fail to adjust to the wintry Chicago lakefront--but srsly, city of Pittsburgh, move your buttfucking HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL games somewhere else.

Seven football games on that field over the course of 11 days, according to the Post-Gazette. Apparently, nobody used any common sense when scheduling these events.

  14. Sean Taylor was shot in his home this morning. This is terrible news for you Redskins defense fantasy owners.

EDIT: All right, I take that back. I didn't realize the seriousness of the situation.

According to the reports here out of D.C., massive blood loss is the main concern. Nobody here is worried about whether he plays again. This is a true life-threatening situation. All prayers, please.

  15. Finally!!!! AP flash:

(AP) - Baseball superstar Barry Bonds has been indicted on perjury and obstruction of justice charges.

The action comes after a four-year federal probe into whether the former Giants slugger lied under oath to a grand jury investigating steroid use by elite athletes.

The indictment comes three months after the 43-year-old Bonds passed Hank Aaron to become baseball's career home run leader.

  16. O.J. Mayo scored 32 points in his debut but USC is upset by Mercer 96-81.

The next preseason tournament of note starts tomorrow with the CBE Classic. It has the exact same format as the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament with the first two rounds essentially just there to be tune ups for the four main schools, although Kentucky proved that isn't always the case.

And Maryland almost proved it here. Hampton came a minute and a half away from upsetting the Terrapins in the 2nd round.

  17. I'm still in shock that they managed to name drop vale tudo in there - aren't these media writers supposed to be idiots?

This writer doesn't seem aware of the new UFC/Spike deal. The cable and broadcast sides are separate issues.

It wouldn't surprise me if a CBS/UFC deal actually happened. CBS got a good ratings bump for its "60 Minutes" MMA story. Plus, the network has actively courted controversy in its recent scheduling (Kid Nation, Swingtown) to get away from its crime procedurals only image.

The media writer protests might go off the charts but CBS and UFC working together would at least get attention for the network.

  18. I think if they forced you to take drugs, and fired you for being caught with the drugs they encouraged you to take, then that should be a lawsuit.

No one forced him to do anything. He was the one that decided to take drugs and he's the only one to blame for his release.

Masters was in an untenable situation. His only WWE marketability came from the physique which couldn't be maintained without violating WWE's drug policy. There's no good option there.
