The first few Joker episodes where bad. Be A Clown and The Last Laugh were the worst. I wasn't to fond of Christmas with the Joker either. After those episodes things started looking up for him.

The episode was called The Last Laugh. I remember it featuring a scene where Batman goes after the Joker and Joker is sitting down and he goes from a light area to dark area over and over and it scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. "YOU KILLED CAPTAIN CLOWN!!!!!"
