You're implying that the Hall is for current fans only. It isn't. It's majorly for older fans (and a way for Vince to keep older fans connected with his product) as well as maybe a starting point for newer fans if they want to learn some history. While there would be some fans who may not know some (or all) of the inductees, it's Vince's job as a promotor to get the maximum out of every possible demographic he can. Doing stuff like the Hall, as well as releasing tribute DVDs of older stars is one way he can keep an older fanbase. This reminds me of so many of THAT fanbase bitching about the release of the DX 3-disc DVD. Newsflash, older fanbase: That DVD isn't directed for your demographic (although I'm sure Vince would be more than happy if you bought a copy or two). What Vince is attempting is expanding his DVD profits some more, as I'm sure the majority of the fans who buy historical sets (for lack of a better term) are older fans. Vince is simply trying to draw some coin from a) something from his current product and b) from his younger fanbase as well. Sorry for going really, really off-topic but it reminds me of newer fans getting all uppity over older stars they've never heard of, when they really have no clue that the thing they're bitching about isn't necessarily something directed to them. The WWE fanbase is VERY diverse, more diverse than many people think.

Styles has always been someone's puppet, and it wouldn't surprise me if he was fed those comments from either Heyman or Vince McMahon. The reason I say Vince is because Awesome made it no secret that he was upset over his initial WWF run during the InVasion in 2001 (in Death Of WCW, he's quoted as saying "I hated it there"). Combine that with his lasting ECW image, and it was a total burial job at ECW ONS. I'm surprised they booked him to go over Tanaka, in fact. Don't know how accurate this is, but InsidePulse says Awesome was diagnosed with diabetes, which wound up sending him into a depression, culminating with the suicide.

That's the rumor. I'm not sure it was ever confirmed as truth. Ditto. If I still have a photo of the title Hennig smashed, I should really compare it to a pic of the Hardcore title someday...

There's many matches that people can debate about putting on Hennig's DVD, but they really, really, REALLY need to throw in that SNME promo in November '89 when Mr. Perfect DESTROYED Hulk Hogan's championship title. That was quite possibly the greatest promo Hennig ever gave in his career. It was, well, perfect. Please elaborate (ie, Idon't remember it). Thanks. Hogan's main program in late '89 was against Mr. Perfect, who had adopted The Genius (Lanny Poffo) as his advisor. At the beginning of that feud, Mr. Perfect would have a series of vignettes of him playing golf, basketball, horseshoes, amongst other things rather, well, perfectly, and saying, "Hulk Hogan, you can't do that." (Speaking of stuff they should throw into the DVD!...) Later on, in November '89, Hogan had a match against The Genius on SNME. It's a rather famous match that Hogan loses by countout thanks to eventually getting frustrated with Genius' different style, cheating by Genius and Perfect, and Perfect wiping out Hogan with Genius' scroll (or maybe it was the title, either or) outside the ring. (I believe you can find the match on YouTube in fact.) After Hogan got knocked out, Genius and Perfect escaped to the dressing room, but not before Perfect took Hogan's title and ran off. Later on, in the show, they cut to the backstage area, where Gene Okerlund interviews the wrestlers, and we see Perfect kneeling on the ground, hammer in hand, and whacking away at the title, which is lying on the floor. Okerlund is in disbelief over this, wants to know what's going on, to which Perfect replies, "THIS HAS NEVER BEEN A PERFECT BELT, AND HULK HOGAN, YOU'RE NOT A PERFECT CHAMPION!" He, along with Genius, continue on, with other details, and while Genius is cocky and annoying, Perfect is angry and believing that something he was doing (destroying a well-regarded championship title) was right, in a way. It reminds me an awful lot of Cactus Jack's Cane Dewey promo, for that reason, in that the wrestler is firmly believing he's right, even if he's ridiculously in the wrong somehow. To me, this may have been the peak of Hennig's WWF heel run. Unfortunately, the Golden Era was well winding down, and the feud didn't draw as well as many Hogan feuds did. If this was maybe a year or two earlier, I think this feud would've been more memorable. Perfect and Genius stayed as a team and feuded with Brutus Beefcake starting at the Royal Rumble, and Hogan wound up crossing paths with Ultimate Warrior. I can't remember what happened to the latter.

I did. It's pretty much what you'd expect, although the alternate commentaries are fun. The Dreamer-Lee scaffold match has Dreamer/Coachman alternate commentary, and Taz-Sabu has Tazz/Styles, with Tazz being totally (and pretty hilariously) in character regarding Styles being a pain in the ass. Dreamer/Coachman commentary is fun, with Dreamer saying stuff that you wouldn't think you'd hear on a WWE release (such as Brian Lee being the Underfaker) and other neat tidbits (like Sandman building the scaffold for that match).

They are eventually releasing it as a DVD. I can't speak for the States' schedule, but it is coming to Canada as a 2-disc set later in the springtime. Another interesting release around the same time that hasn't been mentioned is the re-release of Foley's last set, only it'll be three discs this time instead of two. The last disc will apparently have his more recent matches with Evolution, Orton, Edge, etc.

Hulk Hogan leaks list of 2007 WWE Hall of Fame candidates
MARTYEWR replied to GreatWhiteNope's topic in The WWE Folder
You apparently didn't read the article - Hogan was live on a radio show when a WWE rep called him on his cell phone to ask who he think should go into the Hall of Fame. Hogan put the rep on the air as she was reading to Hogan WWE's list of potential inductees. That "WWE rep" could've been anybody. Who the hell knows what a certain WWE rep sounds like? I think Hogan's full of shit. King Curtis??? No fucking way Vince would consider him for HOF. -
I'm kind of disappointed in the Piper's Pit list. Far too much recent stuff from 2003 and 2005 and not enough of the early days. Stuff like the Pit where Piper's showing some cartoons of the A-Team after WrestleMania, the self interview, Frankie Williams, Snuka and the coconut, beatdown by Adonis & Co. on Piper, and his original retirement (maybe that's 3/28/87) are all essential, in my opinion. Who cares about his stuff with Khali and Daivari anyway? The only worthwhile recent one is the Zach Gowan one, which may have been Sean O'Haire's peak in the company.

November 7, both in USA and Canada.

I certainly hope this is a mistake. If not then I'm not buying this dvd. It is a mistake. http://shopzone.wwe.com/Product_detail.asp...ductId=50-01426 One that the WWE is making, mind you, but still a mistake.

Yup! I got my copy very early too (last Friday) and watched it over the weekend. I have to echo bushwick's statements. Excellent DVD, very sincere I thought, with some fun and great matches to boot. Definitely a must-add to your collection!

Because the overdubbing said "the World Wrestling Federation referee...". I don't remember what the original quote was, but I'm guessing Fink originally said "the WWF referee..."

Heenan did commentary with Craig DeGeorge and Johnny Valentine. Wonder when they taped THAT commentary... Anyways, yes, Jesse Ventura is in there. Something that they did which was pretty neat is indicate who is commentating the match for each match. BTW, no matches are clipped, but Sammartino-Kowalski, Graham-Backlund, and Backlund-Valentine are all joined in progress.

Exactly on the Pistons set, plus all the Pistons' championship years are pretty recent, so they'd sell well for modern fans. Plus, there's the appeal of Dennis Rodman with no piercings, tattoos or bad hair. Alfdogg, I'm in Canada, and I found the Knicks and Sixers sets at Best Buy without any trouble. I'm surprised if you haven't, but that's where I'd look first.

Late in replying to this, but yes, I did, I have all five (76ers and Knicks are the others). Quite good stuff, especially the Celtics and Lakers ones (the Celtics one has the full Celtics-Suns Game 5 that went into triple overtime). I agree with this as I have all 5 as well. I'm wondering when there will be new releases with other teams. Hard to say, since I'm not sure how well the last couple sold. I'm assuming the Lakers and Celtics ones sold well just because of the history of those franchises, and the Bulls one because a lot of the generation that followed their great teams would be interested and have the funding to purchase the set. The Knicks and Sixers are different stories, though, since neither team had the same appeal as above. I'm honestly shocked the Pistons didn't get one yet. I think it would sell better than Knicks and Sixers, because of their recent success, and also because the Thomas-Laimbeer-led teams weren't that long ago (much like the Bulls teams). Today's fans remember those teams more than the Walt Frazier-led Knicks, for example.

true. You dont hear ESPN complaing about the AFL being on NBC do you? Vinces involvement immediately killed any credibility form the mainstream and no one gave it a chance Plus of course having WWF personalities at games didnt help either. Jr and Lawler (just briefly as he quit wwf in late feb) and Ventura as announcers was indeed dumb. The only difference between the XFL and Arena Football, of course, is that Arena Football is making boatloads of cash these days compared to, well, the XFL's financial success.

1. I think that messed up audio in the Funk match, as well as it and other Florida matches being clipped, is more a knock on the Florida library than the WWE production. The Florida library may very well be the worst of any territory's library because of that, but it's pretty essential that it'd be on the DVD due to Rhodes making it big there. 2. This is nothing new. On the 80s DVD that was released last year, there was a lot of repetition in the sections from older releases for guys like Flair, Rhodes, Hogan, Snuka, Heenan, Arn Anderson, amongst others.

That Rick Rude T-Shirt makes me think of the music video of "Listen To The Flower People" by Spinal Tap...

He's the King of Kings, so he'll come out carrying a large wooden cross on his back. Correction, an iron cross Rudo, I love ya, but please, after last night, for the sake of humanity, never ever post again.

50K is certainly easily liveable (and I'm not talking with just "microwave dinners" and "frozen pizzas"). Hell, you can do that with 40K. Key is to limit your expenses and finance wisely. Very few people get that though. Not that you don't want to make more in the long run, but there's no reason why you can't live off that easily. Maria and Trevor Murdoch are different cases though. Those two have to cover their own travel, hotel, etc. Those two are pretty much on the poverty line as far as WWE wrestlers go. I guess this is what they call "paying your dues".

And an offensive line that can actually play consistently.

Natey, Set's fine in general. Your basic VHS-to-DVD conversion, with WWE editing in places you'd expect. The WWE-ized editing is quite different in some cases, with them throwing in new graphics in old WMs to make it look authentic and less blurry, as well as even throwing in Howard Finkel's voice, overdubbing it in cases where he may have said WWF. The discs are dual sided, which is how WM17 to 21 fit onto one disc. Same goes with 4 through 7. No matches are cut out, or clipped. Some interviews are, but that's about it. Some music is changed to. Track down the other thread for all the details as other posters have covered them well. Video quality and audio quality are fine, notwithstanding the changes I made note of above. As for whether it's worth buying, check out the details and decide for yourself. Also, you're in Canada, and I know you can do better than that price. Check out Future Shop and Best Buy. It's a little over $200 there, before taxes.
