ECW One Night Stand 2 Thread

Well I've just abuot lost all my interest in the new ECW in one night. Generic entrance music, no big surprises, RVD being treated like a jobber. This PPV blew.

ECW One Night Stand 2 Thread

Eugene being backstage could turn out to be really awesome if they bring him into ECW and scrap the Eugene character. I could easily see him being the new "Borne Again".
  3. Some dark matches results and other notes: - Shelton Benjamin beat Carlito. Benjamin bragged before the match that he could beat Carlito in 15 minutes. With 30 seconds left, Benjamin put his feet on the ropes to get the pin. - Matt Hardy defeated a local guy named John Bolden in a dark match. - Dusty Rhodes cut a promo promoting his new DVD. - Jimmy Yang defeated Tatanka. Yang was dressed as a cowboy in leather chaps and a Confederate flag on his vest. - WWE didn't come close to selling out the 8,000 seat building for the WWE vs. ECW special last night. 4. But Tazz came across as a loser in that segment and who wants to get behind a loser. No, he didn't. As I said, it's funny when smarks think they speak for the general wrestling population. The reaction in the arena tells me that nobody thinks Taz came out weaker.
  5. Should he have destroyed Lawler right there, making the ONS match mean nothing? He's going to destroy Lawler, but the whole idea of the segment was to make people want to pay 40 bucks to see him do it.
  6. I think the best part of the night was Joey Styles ripping on Finlay's leprechaun and Jerry Lawler having absolutely no idea what he was talking about. "King, I'm begging you...watch the product."
  7. Give me a break. The entire arena was chanting Taz's name, and the entire Hammerstein Ballroom will be cheering for Taz. The only people who think the gimmick is "dead" are 4 or 5 douches on this board. I love it when smarks think they speak for the general wrestling population. As far as Smackdown being the C show, it definitely is now. As good as the wrestling may be with a main event scene of Booker T, Finlay, William Regal, Rey Mysterio and Batista, the reality is that nobody is going to pay to see that. Smackdown has been getting worse and worse (ratings and attendance wise) for years now, and with all these star defections, I can easily see ECW replacing Smackdown if it takes off like Vince is hoping it does.
  8. John Cena will probably win now.
  9. Or just vacate the belt and put it up for grabs in the Cena-Edge match at Vengeance.

    New Metallica Song

Whoa, that song is actually really good. I didn't think Lars still had it in him to play like that.

    Smackdown Spoilers

You'd be surprised. I've thought that after each of the last three times he's jobbed.
  12. In the past we've had Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, and probably a few I'm forgetting. Artists and bands who were just as popular with mainstream music fans who got all their music from top 40 radio as they were with the casual music fan, or the die-hard music fan who despises all the pop that fills radio and television. Obviously, while not EVERYONE liked these artists, they were generally loved by most music fans and were "THE" band of their time. They're still idolized today and made music that will be probably be played forever. But, is there anyone like that today? There doesn't seem to be any one band or artist that this generation of teenagers has latched onto like they did in the 80's when GnR came on the scene and blew the lid off of rock, or when Nirvana arrived a few years later and did the very same thing. One band I thought of was U2, as they're probably the biggest band in the world right now, although I don't really think they speak to this generation's young people. They're a popular band that spans a lot of time, but at the end of the day they'll probably be more associated with their earlier stuff. I posed this question to a bdudy of mine and he named me two bands - Green Day and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Green Day mostly because of "American Idiot". It is seen by many as them "selling out", but regardless, it's an album that 10-20 years from now when Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine are talking about the top records of this decade, American Idiot will likely be at the top, and most of the young people of today would probably agree. Plus, along with American Idiot, they've got two other albums that the majority of music fans would probably consider "classics" with Dookie and Nimrod. His reasoning for RHCP was that they have a fanbase that ranges from pre-teen girls to middle-aged people. They sell millions of records and are all over MTV, but still appeal to music fans who never listen to the top 40 pop stations. They've got two albums that are generally considered to be classics with BSSM and Californication, and possibly a third now with Stadium Arcadium. I don't agree with the Green Day assessment, although I can somewhat see the basis for the RHCP argument, but while I think they'll be a band that remains popular long after they're done playing, I don't ever see them reaching the status of the bands I listed. Who would you nominate? Are there even any bands that can be considered for this right now?

Who is the defining artist of this generation?

When Backstreet Boys and NSYNC got big in the late 90's, countless other boy bands were formed in the mold of them. That's not to say Nirvana is as terrible as those groups, but you don't have to be good to have people copy you. People are going to copy whatever is popular at the time. Personally, I agree with the Nirvana is overrated people. But I don't see how you can deny the mark they left on music for better or worse (and it's for the worse, because they opened the gate for a ton of shitty talentless bands to get popular by reaching deep into the souls of angsty teens!) And I disagree about GNR being hair metal (although Axl did have his hair teased in a very gay hair metal style in the Welcome to the Jungle video), but their sound is much different from the Skid Row's and Ratt's and Twisted Sister's of the world.

But then again, since ECW is returning full-time there is really no need for another nostalgia PPV featuring a bunch of one off matches that don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. ONS is set up to be the kickstart for the ECW brand.

So, what exactly is the point of Wednesday's ECW vs. WWE show, considering that's what the entire ONS PPV is shaping up to be?

    2006 NFL Off-Season

Since Theismann is so hard on Williams, I hope he'd also agree that Sean Taylor shouldn't be allowed in the NFL as well.
