    Jack Palance has died

Shane is still one of my favorite movies ever. Jack Palance was perfect in that movie.

    Spears and K-Fed: It's over

My first girlfriend, when I was like...15, dumped me via e-mail. It sucked for me, so I can imagine how much it sucks for K-Fed, considering my first girlfriend wasn't worth $80 brazillion dollars.

So, is the winning Matsuzake bid going to be paid in American dollars or in Yen? How much Yen is like...$45 million? Anybody know?

Well, obviously your dad's lying to you. Clearly the first video you posted came out way after the early 80s and someone else referenced the song "Scatman" from 1997. He died in 1999. And the "Scatman" song came out in 1995, I believe.

Uh...his brother's a pretty good player. I don't think it's fair to say he hasn't done alot for LA. I mean, last year was kind of a lost year...he broke his wrist and all. But before that, he was on track to have a really good year. And he had quite a good year this year. I don't know if he was worth $11 million last year, but I'd say he was this year, more or less. And the Dodgers are full of ornery, unlikeable bastards. JD Drew can't be any more unapproachable than JK or Brad Penny.

Really, what's so bad about JD Drew? Is he like..."Bobby Abreu" bad, meaning that he's actually really good, but for some reason there's this thing going on that he's not a good player...or is it something else? Just the injury thing? I don't see what's so bad about a career .286 hitter with a career OPS of over .900.

I really liked that "Good Humor" ice cream commercial that did a remix of "Scatman" but it kept going "I'm the Good Humor Man!!!! I'm the Good Humor Man!!!!" over and over. I like ice cream.

That's it. I'm jumping off the Carlos Lee bandwagon and onto the JD Drew bandwagon. JD Drew is a vastly superior player to either Lee or Soriano. He walks more, strikes out less...he's a better fielder. I hope the 'Stros make a play for Drew before Carlos Lee or Soriano, but, Hell, I'd take Trot Nixon in the Astros' outfield at this point...just something so I don't have to watch Jason Lane bat .215 as a number 5 hitter anymore.

$30,000 a month? Hell, I'd marry Britney Spears for $30,000 a month. That would easily cover any STDs that would surely come with the union.

Cheech- The 'Stros aren't moving Lidge, at least from what I hear. Earlier in the offseason, there were a few rumblings that they might trade him for either Adam Dunn or to the Red Sox for....I forget who, but I haven't heard him mentioned in that regard for a couple months. I also remember hearing that they thought Lidge would accept a demotion back to the 7th/8th inning without too much of a problem and they'd use either Wheeler or my pick to come up huge for the Astros in 2007, Fernando Nieve to close out games. Personally, I think Lidge'll be back to himself next season; he just couldn't ever get anything going in a positive direction this past year for any length of time. I think he's working on throwing a 2-seamer and working in a split, so hopefully he'll be harder to figure out next year. And I'm pretty sure that Larry Dierker's gonna be the pitching coach...he'll straighten Lidge out...or ruin his arm like he did to Wade Miller.

VH1 should get him to do a show ala "Flavor of Love" called "Flavor of Fed" or something...or something like "Breaking Bonaduce" called "Fracturing Federline" or "Fed-Up" or something.

I imagine Wood will at least be good in relief. Hell, he was lights out in relief when they had him in that role. Hopefully he does well and can get into closing. I like Wood. He's a Texas guy. What, exactly, is wrong with Mark Prior? Is it just his whole arm in general or is it something specific? He's had so many various injuries the past few years that it's hard to keep up. It's all Giles's fault.

    2006-07 MLB Offseason Thread

Good news for Cubbie fans as they resigned Wade Miller to a one-year deal. Now, if Kerry Wood signs, that's 3/5 of the starting rotation for 2007 set: Prior, Miller, and Wood. Yeah, but seriously, I was a really big Wade Miller fan back in the early 21st century, but, man...injuries have taken a toll on him. And speaking of Astros that looked like they'd be perennial All-Stars in the early 2000s, Richard "Doggy" Hidalgo is playing Winter League ball for the team managed by the director of the Astros' Latin American operations, so I expect him to get a tryout for the 'Stros in Spring Training, if not a ML spot if Carlos Lee, Vernon Wells, Adam Dunn, Jose Guillen, Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, etc. don't pan out. From what I hear, Hidalgo's slugging in VWL and I'd love to see him come back to the 'Stros and hit 45 homeruns and drive in 130 runs again. He'd be a Hell of alot cheaper than anybody else.

Those look like the knock-off jerseys for teams that you buy at like...the flea market...or Wal-Mart. I guess the Astros will just have to expand on their set of: white/white, grey/grey, white/grey, red/white, red/grey, pinstripe/pinstripe, pinstripe/white, pinstripe/grey, throwback rainbow that they have now to distinguish themselves.

The OAO 2006 US Elections Thread

Gah, Texas is still Republican. Kinky came in 4th. Kinky didn't even come in first in the race for Justice of the Peace in Kerrville, TX! And in the race for State Rep. in District 29, the leader with 63% is Rep. Glenda Dawson...who died three months ago. Oy vey....at least Dem. Nick Lampson is gonna win Tom DeLay's old seat.

The OAO 2006 US Elections Thread

50,000 college kids wouldn't win him a freakin' election. And how many his "online friends" live in Texas? Actually, it woulda been 100,000...50,000 X 2 online site things. So, yeah...100,000 college age kids plus the other Kinky voters probably woulda been enough to win him the election. And that's the problem...alot of the young people that had Kinky bumper stickers and were talking Kinky for the last few months either don't live in Texas or just backed him cuz of his schtick, which is pretty damn entertaining. If Kinky doesn't win, hopefully Chris Bell wins. If Rick Perry wins, I'll be sad.

The OAO 2006 US Elections Thread

If Kinky loses, it's the fault of college kids. Kinky had like...50,000 friends on both his Myspace and Facebook accounts and he's really been pushing for the young vote. However, most college kids only added him cuz his name's Kinky and had no intention whatsoever of voting for him. I hate college kids. Good for nothing bums.

Things aren't looking good for Kinky in Texas. He's in 4th place...a low 4th place. Granted, there's still....almost 90% of precincts to be counted, but...Damn conservative Texas. I swear if W.'s running buddy wins another term in office...I'm gonna have a hard time getting my Kinky bumpersticker off of my car...because it's sticky...and butterknifes don't work well scraping off bumperstickers.

    Spears and K-Fed: It's over

I totally just posted this in General Chat. I wasn't sure as to where the proper place to post it is, as K-Fed is multi-talented and wears so many different hats (mostly crooky Dodgers or Yankees hats), but I guess a thread on it could be posted in several different folders so as to give everyone ample space to grieve.

AM 610 in Houston is reporting that Craig Biggio, to the surprise of no one, decided that no one but the Astros want a 40-year old 2nd baseman with an OPS of .700. He signed a 1 yr/$4 mill + incentives deal. I imagine the incentives will be for PAs and his 3000th hit, so it should be somewhere close to $5 million. The surprising news is that the Astros are "very close" to signing Aubrey Huff to a 3 year deal with an option for a 4th year. That's surprising because I heard that Huff turned down a contract offer at the end of the season and was dead set on testing FA. If Huff does sign, I imagine that puts him at 3rd, which makes Ensberg, he of the 100 walks and .230 batting average expendable. With that scenario, I could see Ensberg traded to either the Padres or the Phillies for either some starting pitching or Pat "The Bat", which would probably mean the Astros wouldn't get Carlos Lee, so hopefully he goes for some pitching. I'll be sad to see Ensberg leave. He'd be an ideal #2 hitter, but he's not a cleanup hitter. Whichever team he goes to, if they bat him second, he could be very valuable, and possibly could win a Gold Glove somewhere along the line.
