Meh, I respect your opinion, but must disagree. You'd probably enjoy the Young Liars EP. It's not as...'droney' as the new one (I don't think droney is the right word, though...but anyway...). I personally like the TV on the Radio thing where there's specific melodies and grooves in each song, but they're sometimes buried deep in the mix or piled upon by layers of other stuff, but can see why someone might not be in a mood to hear it. However, if they ever come to Chicagoland, I'd urge you to check them out in concert. You'd like them...or else you wouldn't, but you might...unless you don't.

I still think you're listening to it wrong. Have you listened to the whole thing yet? There's contrast in it, but it does all meld together to a certain degree, but I wouldn't say it's all just a bunch of noise. I'd say that it's layered, in that, there's a bunch of different tones and sounds that all compliment each other as opposed to just clash with each other. It's not like...uh...what's that noise rock band...uh....Wolf Eyes or something where there's no discernable groove or melody. You can shake your ass to TV on the Radio. Have you tried shaking your ass, Czech?

Inspired sequencing? Dynamic contrast? Those sound like proactive buzzwords to me. Maybe you're listening to it wrong. Are you listening to it wrong?

I'm still working on this one. Some songs are catching on, but I'm not geeking out about this record like the rest of you guys are. Yet, at least. Work harder. What are you listening to by 'em? I'm of the mind that if you don't think the Young Liars EP is one of the greatest things to come out in the last decade or so you just don't like music. I can understand not being able to get 100% into their first full-length, because some of their stuff wasn't ahem...'fully realized', but the EP and the new album...man... I think it's kinda odd that Desperate Youth... seemed almost like a step backwards after the Young Liars EP, even though both are great.

    World Series: Tigers vs. Cardinals

Ya'll know what the midwest is? Young and restless. Yeah, Detroit has to win. Leyland's a better manager than TLR. I mean, Jim Leyland wears CLEATS in the dugout and he made Pudge play 2nd base once. And that is why Jim Leyland is the greatest manager in the history of baseball.

Mick Thompson from Slipknot? Not many of the other guys are 'musical pioneers' or anything...but...Slipknot. Yeeps! It's good to see that Mick Mars is presumedly well enough to do something like this. I don't really care anything about Motley Crue, but last I heard he wasn't doing too good, although that was about a year or so ago.

    Gillette Fusion.

I shave my face about once every six months, and when I do, I get the hot shave from Lou's Barber Shop. Nothing finer than a 65-yr old ex Marine trimming your sideburns with a straight-razor.

That whole CD is great. Really great. I hope they work together extensively in the future. I knew the CD was gonna be good when the Spanish opera singer came on in the first song.

    World Series: Tigers vs. Cardinals

If I were Leyland, I woulda started the lefties back-to-back in games 1 and 2. The Cards have blown ass against lefties this year, and then this year's hottest Postseason pitcher, Kenny Rogers, coulda started two games at home where he's been really, really good this year. I guess if Leyland thought the Cards could take it to Game 7, he woulda down that...

    World Series: Tigers vs. Cardinals

The only reason the games were close last year is because of the Astros' pitching. The Cards don't have a rotation anywhere close to what the Astros had last year. Carpenter hasn't been unhittable, Jeff Weaver's been shockingly good, but he's still Jeff Weaver, and I don't forsee Jeff Suppan holding down the Tigers the way he did the Mets. I don't imagine a bunch of 3-1, 2-0 type ballgames. I'm not underrating the Cards, they're a decent team, but they're gonna get clubbered. Any word on the pitching matchups?

NLCS: St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Mets

I guess Beltran didn't have his...hishishishishis boogie shoes on. I'm shocked that the Cards took the series. Pity. The Mets were easily the best team in the NL this year and the only team that stood a remote chance of taking 1 out of 5 against the Tigers.

I've only listened to the Girl Talk CD like...2 or so times, so the whole "pick out the random ass sample...Hey! Is that the Breeders?" type thing hasn't worn off yet. I'll probably listen to it like...100 times this week and then only occasionally after that, but I imagine it'll still be top 10 or so of the year for me. And I really like the Grizzly Bear CD. I can't say that I have favorite songs on it, I more just like to put it on and get immersed in it. It's good mood music; to use a cliche, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I haven't heard that particular song, but I disagree with you, sir. Nothing this year will be better than the TV on the Radio CD...some CDs that have come close include: Yellow House Grizzly Bear The Califone record Night Ripper Girl Talk I've had a productive couple weeks in finding good CDs released this year...first with Grizzly Bear, then Califone, and today I downloaded the Girl Talk CD, which is amazing, if only for the sheer ridiculousness of doing things like mixing The Beatles with Nirvana with Elton John with The Notorious B.I.G. and other such foolishness.

    "Rock is boring"

I can't stand the sound...of the Velvet Underground. Yeah, but seriously...the Doors have some really good songs and from the video I've seen and the tracks I've heard they were a really good live band...and one of my favorite scenes from The Simpsons involves Homer wandering sadly around town singing "The End". When he gets to the "weird scenes inside the goldmine" part, I bust out laughing.

    "Rock is boring"

But at least Jim Morrison is compelling and interesting as a person and a personality (for better or for worse). Sting doesn't even have that going for him. One of the benefits of dying young...you have less time to get old and boring.

Maybe he was working under the theory that the two curses would cancel each other out...like two negatives equaling a positive. Or maybe not. The least credible source in Houston sportswriting, Richard Justice, says that he heard from a reliable source that Carlos Lee was going to sign with the 'Stros. He also said that they should sign Pettitte for 10 mil and Woddy Williams for 5 and trade Willy Taveras for 'something useful' and they'd be fine for '07. Personally, I think Willy Taveras is something useful. I can't wait till the World Series is over, not just cuz this postseason is boring me to tears, but I'm eager to get some Hot Stove action going on.

    Two Gallants attacked

You haven't been a very good e-friend, and I shan't forgive you for leaving the 'la' out of my name. The 'la' is to my name what the two crucial pickles are to Chic-Fil-A. ...crucial! I like some Saddle Creek bands...Bright Eyes is ok...in his country-ish direction. Uh...Sorry About Dresden is ok from what I've heard. Azure Ray makes me sleepy. If The Faint are still on Saddle Creek, they suck. If they're no longer on Saddle Creek, they still suck.

    Two Gallants attacked

Geez...when did Snuff become Ice-T and when did I become Charlton Heston? I didn't once defend anybody, nor did I convict anybody. All I said was that the videos present on the nite you first posted this thread were grainy at best and it was hard to discern what was happening and they didn't present the whole story. I stand by that. They're still grainy at best and it's still hard to discern what's happening and they don't tell the whole story at best. I haven't watched the last video you posted, but I assume it's some cop doing some type of chicanery because you tried to take a subtle little dig at me, but, still...I never defended anybody, cop or Gallant. All I said was that I would have to see some more evidence before I made any type of determination. Yeesh...you're asinine, Snuffy.

Cracker Barrel discriminates against Chris Rock's mom?

I usually go to Cracker Barrel on Sunday mornings for breakfast with my Dad...he really likes their biscuits and gravy. Personally, I think it was just shitty service. When I go, it's usually shitty service. I don't think it's discrimination. After all, they weren't at Dennys.

    Felonies!

I can't help but feel that I've missed out by not hanging out more with professors, etc. in the English department. I'm graduating at the end of the year and I've never met with any professor outside of a classroom setting. They all seem nice enough, too...just...haven't gotten around to it. The only English professor I really know on even a semi-personal basis is my boss at the UH Writing Center where I work teaching Developmental English to freshmen/football players. I worry that my unsociability will hurt me in some way.

That one won't happen. Oswalt has a full no-trade clause and without him, the Astros rotation consists of: 1. Jason Hirsh 2. Wandy Rodriguez 3. Taylor Buchholz 4. Russ Springer 5. Jason Lane Yeah, so that one won't happen at least.

    Two Gallants attacked

Whoa there....I didn't defend anybody. I just said that it's wrong to jump to conclusions when the evidence is the word of a bunch of drunk indie kids and two grainy cellphone videos. And I only said anything about not jumping to conclusions after you made your 'fat twit' post. All I did was post an article where the cop gave his side. You started out calling the cop a pig and whatnot. I just wanted parity. I don't think that's anything too far-fetched...and my name has an 'la' sammiched in between. What do you people have against 'la'? The first time it happened, I thought it was funny so I had to laugh, now it's getting old so all I can do is go 'ugh'! I'm even clever before sunrise.

    Two Gallants attacked

Oh, my apologies for misquoting you. You said 'fat twit'. I'm not sure where I got fuckwad from. I like that word...fuckwad. The more I listen to this CD, I don't think I wanna taze this guy, but I might wanna kick him in the nuts. My closing remark: A terrible situation, to be sure, but until more facts come out, I'm not going to say that either party was 100% responsible for the actions. From the videos and the cop's sorta-flimsy excuse and aggressive behavior, it looks like he was more in the wrong than the other party, but...I'll never underestimate the stupidity and dumb behavior of a bunch of drunken indie kids. Still terrible about the 14-year old. I dunno, this Officer Rodriguez always seemed like a mild-mannered guy whenver I saw him. I guess he just hates Saddle Creek like Czech does.

    Two Gallants attacked

Well, usually you don't give the Miranda Rights while you're in the middle of a small-scale brawl. Usually you wait until the situation is secure. I don't think the videos are as telling as you do. They're both less than a minute long. Neither one shows the entire event. They just show the reaction. They don't show any of the provocation, presuming there was some. They're not particularly well-shot. They're dark and jumpy. Now, if they had a full-video of the entire incident, it would be easier to judge, but I don't think a 45 second, jumpy cellphone video of a cop subduing a crowd that he alleges was very aggressive towards him is enough to judge the incident on. I don't feel it's enough to call him a fuckwad or a pig or anything else. What if the cop was telling the truth? What if right before the video started, one of the Gallants called him a fag and shoulder pushed him? What if somebody behind him grabbed at his gun? I think if that was the case, the cop had just cause to break out the taser. If not, well, he didn't. I'm not saying that the cop was 100% in the right; I'm just saying that I can't accurately make a determination so I'm not going to jump to any conclusions and start name-calling. You feel that you can make a judgment, so you did and you called him a fuckwad and a pig. That's certainly within your right, I just think that all sides should be explored before a conclusion is jumped to. Edit: And the Chronicle article I posted says that the cop went to management and told them to turn the sound down and they did, but turned it up as he was leaving. Why he didn't go to the mixing board, or if he did go to the mixing board I'm not sure.
