Or they could trade for A-Rod and stick him at second. But then John Mabry, Freddy Bynum, Henry Blanco, Derrek Lee, that Theriot kid, Bob Howry, Caesar Izturis, Ryu Huk Yu, and Larry Rothschild would have no position to play.
-
I bet by 2010, the Yankees payroll is $300 million, and the team will include both Jason Schmidt and Jim Thome. And A-Rod will hit .300 with 45 HRs and 140 RBI and make 32 errors and get booed all season.

Three bloopers and the wheels have fallen off of the Dodger bandwagon... Go Tigers!!!

I love Jeff Kent and his porno 'stache. Let's go Blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first I saw of Buck O'Neil was in the Ken Burns documentary. It's too bad that he missed out on the HOF this past time (by one stinkin' vote!). It was always a pleasure to see someone so joyful and jubilant in spite of the adversity and animosity that he faced. Buck was a true ambassador for the sport of baseball and one of the most exuberant, loving people I've ever seen either on film or in person. Rest in peace, Mr. Buck.

Mark Foley asks, "Do I make you a little horny?"

What? Clinton kept shit real. He played the saxaphone and got blowjobs in the Oval Office. That's the guy I want running my country right there. -

You need to note the following differences, though: -the lawsuit that started the mess was brought about only after a right-wing magazine published a report that said Jones had an affair with Bill Clinton. -Republicans were giving free legal counsel to Paula Jones, and one of her lawyers was Ann Coulter. -Monica Lewinsky never claimed Clinton sexually harrassed her, so having the Paula Jones legal team questioning either her or him about their affair served no purpose except to potentially entrap him in a perjury charge. -Clinton was impeached in a mostly partisan vote during a lame duck Congress following an election where the Republicans had lost a substantial number of seats. -Lewinsky was of legal age. Oh yeah, I knew about all that. I wasn't saying it was right for the Demmys to dig up dirt on the Republicans or vice versa. I was just making a blanket statement about how, in alot of political scandals, the actual scandal takes a backseat to the people who claim that the Democrats/Republicans are only digging stuff up out of self-serving needs. And I'm biased towards Clinton. He should totally be elected King of the World Forever and Ever. He kept shit real. -
Lidge for Beckett! Straight up! ...Actually, that doesn't seem like a half bad idea...presuming Boston would cover some salary.

I'd say it's time, yes. I'm also finding these playoffs boring. Mainly because the teams I'd like to see advance aren't doing anything, despite being hot going down the stretch. As far as the Astros, the biggest offseason priorities are, presumably, getting Carlos Lee and getting Clemens (and Pettitte) to make up his mind about whether or not he'll be re-un-re-un-re-un-retiring. Also, there's alot of buzz about Woody Williams. I see him ending up in Houston in 07. There were a couple stories floating around about how the Astros are "very interested" in Dontrelle Willis and have been for the past couple years. However, there are, I'm sure, many teams that are "very interested" in D-Train. In any event, the Fish were seriously looking at Willy Taveras at the trade deadline. Still, I don't imagine anything'll happen on that front. If Willy does get traded for Willis, I'd like to see the 'Stros pick up Dave Roberts. I like his hustle. Also, the D-Rays are apparently interested in moving Houston native Carl Crawford. The Astros do have a few good young pitching prospects and have a good relationship with the D-Rays GM, but I'm sure if Crawford is available, other teams have better prospects to offer. Last thing is that the Astros are looking to add some more offense at catcher and moving Ausmus to a back-up role, especially if Clemens and Pettitte don't return. If this were a perfect offseason, the starting lineup for 07 would end up like this... Crawford CF Ensberg 3B Berkman 1B Lee LF Scott RF Biggio/Burke 2B Everett SS Ausmus/one of the Molinas/Johnny Estrada C Oswalt P Rotation: Oswalt Willis Clemens Pettitte Woody However, that'll probably not happen and I imagine the 07 opening day lineup to be something like... Taveras CF Ensberg 3B Berkman 1B Lee RF Scott LF Biggio/Burke 2B Everett SS Ausmus C Oswalt P Rotation: Oswalt Pettitte Woody Hirsh Sampson The first lineup, I think, would win 90-100 games easily. The second would probably still be able to take the Central division, as long as the other teams in the division don't make super blockbuster deals.

I was listening to the Phil Valentine show on talk radio today and he was talking about how the GOP is saying that the Demmycrats are just doing digging to try and ensure they get the seat. Yeah...that's pretty stupid. I mean, Mark Foley hasn't denied doing any of this. In fact, he's admitted it. Even if the Democrats were just trying to dig up dirt, I personally think it's a good thing that people like this in positions of power are exposed. Also, back during the Clinton scandal, the Democrats were saying the whole thing was being dug up by Republicans, so it all balances out. That's why I vote independent! -
Wow. Brad Ausmus for GG? I was thinking the Molina kid, myself, but I agree with the Adam Everett pick. If Everett doesn't win a Gold Glove this year, there is no justice.

I bet dollars to donuts that Buck Showalter is the next manager of the Chicago Cubs. That would be hilarious. In Astros' news, pitching coach Jim Hickey has been given the axe. I don't wanna speculate, but I think it would be awesome as all get out to have Nolan Ryan as the new pitching coach. All of the pitchers would throw 98-mph fastballs and make beef products.

Very true, young Slayer. It's sad to know that I've only been here for like...6 months and I've already peaked. I warn you guys, it's all downhill from here... I can't quit posting until January! I've got...things to say...important things! Things that...could...change...your...life?

This wins the thread so far. The first post of yours I've ever liked. The first post of mine that you ever liked?!?!?!? Well, it only took me 1136 posts to get to number one, so check back in about...January and I'll come up with another gem.

MLB needs to move the Blue Jays to New Orleans! The New Orleans Hurricanes!!!!!

So what if you're general manager thought that Preston Wilson was the 'big bat' that would carry your offense through the season? Who cares if your manager was too busy grooming his moustache to notice that Brad Lidge's command and brain are both hopelessly lost? You really had Wandy Rodriguez as your third starter? Get over it! Morgan Ensberg and Jason Lane had batting averages roughly equivalent to the price of chicken by the pound? Quit crying, cowboy, because Jeff Kent might not be an Astro anymore, but he is a Dodger, and the Dodgers are in the postseason! So throw a steak on the grill, take your 10-gallon hat off your 2-gallon head and watch the postseason!

This just keeps gettin' better and fuckin' better... -
I really liked Seperation Sunday. Haven't heard the new one. Craig Finn occasionally stumbles upon a genius lyric...occasionally.

Joey Eischen's a pretty good lefty. He is a lefty, right? I think he's a lefty. He's the guy with the weird wind-up. Uh...yeah.

Clemens, Pettitte, Tejada, and others named in PED case
vivalaultra replied to Bored's topic in Sports
I guess that Al will now just have to accept the fact that the clutchness of Craig Biggio is what kept the Phils out of last year's playoffs and not Performance Enhancers, as Jason Grimsley's attorny said that he was misquoted and actually said that Clemens and Pettitte wouldn't take PEDs "never in a million years". There's a subtle conspiracy theory going around some people in Houston saying that the LA Times put that article out when the Astros were in a must-win situation to go to the postseason and would be rattledy such an article, effectively keeping the Astros pitching rotation away from the Dodgers and the playoffs. Personally, I find that to be as dumb a conspiracy theory as an article I read a couple years ago saying that Jeff Bagwell is baseball's steroid kingpin and is responsible for introducing the drug into the game. The best part of this whole thing is the other night on the news, Mark Berman, Houston sports news guy, interviewed Clemens and asked him if he ever got tired of being brought up in steroid rumors and such, to which Clemens responded, "Never get into a pissing contest with a skunk." I have no idea what that means, but it sounds neat. -
Hey, the Puma's all about versatility. Berkman also played some games in the outfield. And he had 20 more HRs and 22 more RBI than Cabrera. And his OPS is higher and he had more total bases. I don't see how Cabrera contributed more to the Marlins than Berkman did to the Astros, especially, as I keep mentioning mostly because I find it completely staggering, Berkman had 70 more RBI than the guy that had the 2nd most on the team. He drove in about 20% of the total runs scored for the Astros. The Astros, I think, had just as many, if not more, holes than the Marlins did. But, that's probably partially my 'homerism' coming into play, and I can see why someone might rank Cabrera higher than Berkman, even if I don't agree.
