I can't really give you shit for being a Texans' fan. I'm not a big football guy, but when I do root for a team, I root for the Saints. I grew up watching them in the late 80s/early 90s when they were REALLY bad. Maybe if I had lived in Houston during that time period, I would've gotten into the Oilers or something, but meh. Uh...just to make this baseball related....Go 'Stros!

In my experience waiting tables for Denny's for about 3 years, 2000-2003...inclusive, I've learned that only Nigerian men, little old ladies, and hipsters drink hot tea with any regularity.

I don't know why you'd wanna move on to football season. Maybe the Astros know that the Texans aren't going to do anything this season...yet again, so they're trying to extend their season as long as possible to give Houston sports fans something to get excited about. I'm not surprised about Wade Miller's piss-poor mechanics. That's why he didn't last in Houston. The coaching staff told him to do change something, but he never did...and now look at him.

The 'Stros are rolling over the Brewers, 9-1 going into the 6th. Luke Scott's tripled and homered. He's got a shot at getting his second cycle of the season, which would be wicked awesome, yo. Presuming the 'Stros win and the Bucs hold off the Reds, the Astros will actually pass them both in the WC and the Division. They've got 7 games left against the Cards and 3 against the Reds, and if the Astros win at least 6-7 of them, I think they've got a great chance at taking the division.

Pfft. Snapple is made from rat feces and goat semen. If you wanna drink rat feces and goat semen, go ahead, but I'll continue drinking my delicious Arizona Iced Tea beverages.

When I was in 5th grade, my class went to the mall to do a Christmas concert. We sang Tubular Bells. My part was going "Bbrrrrruuuuummmm!!!!!!"

I don't care if the Phillies don't make the playoffs or don't win a game the rest of the year, Ryan Howard is the NL MVP. And I think Roy Oswalt just killed Damian Miller. Bases were loaded with 1 out and Oswalt let go of an offspeed pitch that bounced off of Miller's dome. If forced in the tying run, but man...painful RBI. And he just came back from post-concussion syndrome. And there's Huff with a solo shot to give the 'Stros a 1-run lead.

I, too, remember that song.

The Sawx released Javy Lopez and that Kuo guy pitching for the Dodgers is dealin'.

"D'splanes" as in...to say...the Astral Planes belonging to once-popular rap artist Heavy D? As far as declaring a recent album (say...last 10 years or so) to be my all-time favorite, I just couldn't do it. Maybe my favorite album of the moment, but for it to be an all-time favorite, it's gotta stand up to years and years of relistening and enjoying. As to the subjectivity of lists, the only absolute is that my favorite all time album is Townes van Zandt's Live at the Old Quarter. Spots 2-999,999,999 vary depending on the season and my temperment.

How do you pronounce "Des Plaines" correctly? Is it "Des Plaines" or "Des Plaines"?

Hairspray. Oh, wait...not campy...camp. Uh...Ski Camp II.

I prefer Rehearsing my Choir to Blueberry Boat, grandmother and all. I think it's because the story of the former is more coherent and slightly easier to follow. If you're gonna make a concept record full of bizzarre twists and turns and flourishes, it should at least be somewhat easy to comprehend what's going on. I have no idea what's happening on Blueberry Boat, something about pirates, I think.

Well, it's not like you have any designs to come to Houston, so...ya takes what ya can gets.

Go to University of Houston. Then I can have a new friend.

My sister just informed me that last nite Andyball Suertos of the Florida Martians threw a "none-hitter" to beat the Arizona Diamonds. Congrats, Andyball!
-
My first no-hitter was Mike Scott's against the Giants at the Astrodome to clinch the NL West title in '86. I was a spry...3 years 9 months old. From what I recollect, it was a pretty well-pitched game. My absolute favorite no-hitter of all time was the 6-pitcher no-hitter that Roy Oswalt, Pete Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel, and Billy Wagner dealt to the Yankees June 11, 2000. That was great. It woulda been better if Munro hadn't walked 3 or 4 batters. Then it woulda been a perfect game. But, oh well..

Gotta get him ready for the stretch drive and the postseason. Wouldn't want him to get rusty.

Damn, Willy T. made a HELL of a throw from the warning track to throw Jimmy Rollins out at second. Willy's made some good throws, but that was...Ichiro like. And I'd be willing to bet the Marlins get to the WS before 2011. I'd be surprised if they don't get to it in the next 3 years. Hell, it's not unthinkable to think they might get there this year. Not likely, but...not unthinkable.
-
Would it be going out on a limb to say that there's a good chance that the 2011 WS could be between the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the San Antonio Marlins?
-
So, in terms of evaluating after the fact, it looks like Florida did better than alot of people thought in the Beckett/Lowell trade. In other gameday news, the Phillies and Astros are having another Hella good game. Big Puma just broke up a 2-2 tie in the top of the 9th with a three-run double.
-
Oh yeah...I forgot that Al Leiter was a good pitcher at one point.
-
So, for the Marlins no-hitters, we've got who? ...Kevin Brown, Anibal Sanchez, AJ Burnett...and...fuck...somebody else, right? I remember Burnett's...that was a fucked up game. 9 walks and still got a no-no. Yeah, Bud Smith was a Cardinal. Only played 2001 and 2002. He had arm problems.
-
Congrats, rook. First rookie since Bud Smith in 2001. Anybody remember Bud Smith?

'Tis not for you to know, young one. The genius of Jeff Mangum is not for everyone, but the untitled instrumental that segues into "Two-Headed Boy, Pt. 2", that's damn near the most wonderful, euphroic piece of music ever committed to tape.
